I'm actually taking this idea from Al Schroeder of Mindmistress. He's asked people to do this for him in the past, but my idea is a little more community oriented. The basic idea is that comics can look have a totally different feel when drawn by a different artist. Al would ask people to go into his archives, and choose a strip to redraw completely in their own style, basically for props and linkage.

My suggestion is that we get a group of people together, the more the better, and randomly match them with someone else. Then the people matched would go through the archives of the person they've gotten, choose a comic, and just redraw the strip with the same script but in their own art. And maybe have a final deadline for everyone to have their remix comic to give to the person they've gotten.

Does this sound like something anyone else would be interested in?

Edit:

Wow, nice response already. Ok well, I can set this up two different ways. I can post the list of who ends up being matched to who, or I can syphon it all through private quacks so no one knows who has them, sorta like a secret santa dealie. What do you guys think? I'll work up something with some groundrules we can argue about in a little bit.

im up for it. but i think we should provide the scripts to our match, to give the other artist an idea of what was going through our heads at the time.

lets start off with the application cut off. I'ma say November 20th. Anyone who wants to be part of this just reply on this forum, or send me a PQ and I'll add you to the list of people who are part of this. Please include the comic you want to be part of this if you have multiples. On November 25th I'll either post a list of who is drawing who's comic, or I'll PQ everyone with the person their drawing, depending on how we decide to do it.
I wanna allow each person one blackball. If there's one comic they really don't want to draw (maybe you don't get along with that artist or really don't care for that comic or something) you can request not to be signed up to drawn for them, send me this request by PQ. Since this is really an art based project, I'm going to have to exclude sprite comics from being part of this. Pixel art is clearly not the same, so if you make your own sprites, and don't just change the colors around on Megaman and Sonic, then I think you should be allowed to be part of the group, although I expect this might be up for debate.

Once you get your assignment you should go through the archives of the person you're drawing for, and choose one of their strips. When you find the one you wish to do, write the script down and proceed to draw the comic in your own style using as little of the original comic art and presentation as possible.

Deadline on the final product will be December 20th (giving you just under a month to do it, I know how busy an artist's schedule can be.) After which I can either set up a page on DD for all of the comics and/or email them to their recipients by December 25th, so sorta like a Christmas present. If we decide to do it like a "secret santa" thing it'll fit.

You won't be getting your comic drawn by the person you're drawing a comic for, and You won't have a say on which comic whoever gets you does, so exercise good karma. And I think this should be a minimum requirement deal, so if you just FEEL like drawing more than one comic or, you get assigned to person X but you were really looking forward to doing one for person Y you can always draw more than one, and I'll still add it to the overall list of strips and release it with the bunch.

Put me up!

I have several comics, but "Le Farce" would be a natural pick!

I'm totally up for it, although my archive isn't a large as I'd like it to be. So I suppose I'll have to work a few more strips into the works. If nothin' else I'd be happy just to draw somebody else's work.
