I have a soft spot for Greek Mythology since "Cupid and Psyche" was the inspiration for my all time favorite fairy tale "Beauty and Beast." I also enjoy Norse Mythology and what I've read of Chinese and Egyptian Mythis.

i'm not a satanist or anything, i just like how descriptive it is.

BTW this made me wonder why there isn't a story as descriptive as this, but a person going to heaven.

There is, it's Dante's Paradise, I think. Dante did a trilogy of going through hell, purgatory, and then to heaven.
I had to research it last year.

Yeah, the three are called the Divine Comedy.

Why do you think the description of HVH is "the REAL Divine Comedy"? It's much funnier than Dante's version.
even if we are using two different definitions of "comedy"…

Gee, i kinda like all kinds of mythology. I guess i like the Egyptians mythology, though quite honestly, i'm more interested in the civilizations themselves (which does involve a lot of mythology) Rather than just the mythology.

I'm a bit of a sucker for Aztec/Mayan mythology.

The Aztecs were brutal, they enslaved billions of people just to have them sacrificed to there sun god so that the world wouldn't end. And to do so, they chopped the victims still beating hearts out of there bodies where they stood in the sacrificial chambers, by priests waring masks made from human sculls.

My favorite would probably be all the Native American mythologies (especially the Navajo). Those guys had a deity-like culture-hero named Nayanezgani whose name roughly translates as "Slayer of Alien Gods." Seriously, how kick-ass is that?

I like Indian. I don't know a whole lot about it but that elephant with 8 arms is so cool.

also I like Egyptian.

Geez, this thread is two years old o_O

Indian Mythology is soooo complicated and intricate. It makes ALL others look like reality TV.
Way too hard to get into.

Sumerian. Because everything else is based on it, even root Asian Indian myths (the Vedas) And it's so easy to put in Ancient Aliens. The very name of the gods doesn't mean deity and forms the basis for many Bible stories/mythology.

Asian Indian mythology is akin to Native American or African mythology. You have an entire continent full of stories all thrown together. You have to seperate them out by who wrote it like Navajo versus Iroqouis versus Cherokee etc.

Christian mythology (as opposed to hebrew/biblical mythology which is rooted in Sumerian/Babylonian) is also cool. Like the wandering Jew, the saints' stories, trips to Hell, the non-biblical Nativity story, the Archons, the War for Heaven etc.

Man, I love Norse Mythology. Where else do you get the earth created from the body of a dead giant? His blood became the waters of the earth, his eyes became the sun and moon. That's just the beginning of it.

Wow. This is an old one.

I studied Norse Mythology so I could tell you a story or two about that. I also had a thing for the Greek mythology.

I like so many different mythologies it's hard to decide. I like Hindu myths because they are so complex. I really like Sumerian mythology too because it so often gets ignored in favor of Egyptian mythology. And lastly I like fairy folklore.

I prefer the local myths. They're just more interesting to me. Such as the one about an ancient chief who could husk coconuts with his bare hands; he swam around the island several times too.

And then there's the Taotaomona; jungle spirits THAT MUST BE RESPECTED. Otherwise they'll either leave red markings on your skin or worse… some people who relieve themselves in the jungle without asking them permission find themselves unable to relieve themselves anymore. You'd have to go to the local witch doctor (don't know what they're actually called) to get it cured.

And then there's the famous Two Lovers Point. Legend has it that a local girl was going to be forced to marry a Spanish noble. Rather than be married to that guy, she and her boyfriend went to a cliff, tied their hair together and jumped 360 feet (or so) to their deaths.

Greek and Vaudan Mythology.

Ever since I saw Childs Play as a kid I wanted to know where the idea came from. Then I found out allot of the terms and names came from the Vaudan mythology from Haiti.

I'd say egyptian purely because everyone has to learn about it at school at some point or another. One of my favourite stories we dubbed "Seth's bad day". I think he gets humped by a horse or something before eating a salad Horus sprinkled his seed on (to put it delicately) which gets him pregnant. I think theres more and it doesn't get better.

I've been reading up on Shinto myths. I love the Youkai and Ghost legends more than those of the gods though.
