Good moustache now KomradeDave, even without the beard that's ok, but you do need some hair. Come on, I bet they allow you some. With your dress uniform, the mo, and some hair, you'd look like one of those 40's movie stars :)

also guys hair is very strict. (more so outside the airforce). your mustache can't touch the lip, and the hair can't go past the corners of the mouth. hair on top of your head, must be at maximum 3/4 of an inch where it tapers off. no more than an 1-1/2 inch in bulk on top.

Why?

There is no logical reason anymore. In the past it was about a disciplined look and and easy way to avoid parasites and too much grooming. These days it's mainly a mixture of overlapping traditions and bureaucracy.
…I'd say that was the case anyway.
