White chocolate is best!

- - - -
I'm sitting here pondering which project to pick up and draw once my tablet is functional again.

And I'm failing at it, heh. Too many projects started, and way too many sitting in planning stages. I just don't know what to choose, what to focus on anymore.

It's annoying…

I just watched a movie made in '76 (Burnt Offerings), and I was struck by how much everyone over-acted. At first it was very off-putting. Almost like a musical where the facial expressions and dialogue is delivered with such gusto that you expect them to break out in song at any moment.

But the story started to catch me and then I forgot the cheesy acting. It started to become more believable. Anyway, I finished the movie (and it was fantastic, by the way) but it brought me to this thought:

Have actors really become better these days?

When I watch movies that have been made recently, the acting seems less forced. I see actors that behave, speak, and emote similar to way that I do. I can relate to them because their preformances seem believable (for the most part).

But the farther back I go into the movie genre, the less I can relate to the preformance. Does anyone else experience this phenomena? Are the actors of the 70's (for example) just taking cues from a generation of silent films where everything had to be pantomimed and exaggerated?

I'm on the fence. I watch these old movies and sometimes the cheesy acting really does it for me and other times it just distracts from things. But then, I wonder if my children will look back on some of the films that my generation has made and roll their eyes at us.

Hmm…

All right… assuming the nibs arrive in time, I want to start drawing a longer b/w project on July 15th. SO I guess it's practice sketches and designs until then :D

I shall aim for 2 pages a day (unless I do find a somewhat physically exhausting day job, then 1 page a day and 2 on off days).

I think acting tend to be a little more natural these days, before it was more like stage performances.

God damnit. I swear to god I am never buying another wacom tablet. I have had so many freaking problems with them. Out of nowhere, they always just decide "Nah, I don't feel like working any more." Woke up today and my tablet isn't responding the buttons or the pen. Only touch. It doesn't even make SENSE! If it's going to stop working it should at least stop working completely!
So I remove the user profiles and blah blah blah, still not working. I am very upset.

@Ally: Some of the best acting I've seen has been on The Twilight Zone - but on the other hand, that was a pretty exceptional show.

The head looks like a marshmallow!

@ Hippie Van: What tablets have you been using exactly? I had SOOOOOO much trouble with my wacom graphire, but once I upgraded to an intous I've had no trouble. : )

I had a little Bamboo Fun, and now I have a bigger Bamboo Fun. I wouldn't be able to afford a replacement for this one, nevermind an upgrade.
But I reinstalled the drivers and now it appears to be working again, no thanks to wacom.

My bamboo does that, I think it has something to do with the wire connector (that metal port) being flimsy inside the tablet, don't quote me on that though. I usually reboot my computer and it fixes.

I recently ordered a replacement pen for my intuos pen since i accidentally snapped the board…70 freaking dollars. I still have no idea why they charge so much even after seeing the inside.

From personal experience with many Wacoms (Graphires, Intuous, Cintqs) On many different versions of Windows and Mac OS, the trouble is usually always something to do with the OS and not the tablet. (when it's the tablet for me it's been the stylus just breaking from being too old)
The OSs just don't want to let the tablet driver run for some reason all of a sudden, or they never let it run or they run it all weird.

My usual fix is just to log out (or windows) and log back in. Usually that always fixes it for me. But I cannot guarantee that in all cases. The hardest time people usually have is getting it installed to start with (in some cases it can be a fricken nightmare, most cases it's easy), but once you're past that then is usually just Windows or the Mac messing with the driver.

Wow… just watched some segment in "The Most Extreme" about the Cuckoo. Klepto Parasitism, it's called. I wonder if it happens in humans too… where a conman or some other criminal replaces the newborn of rich new parents with their own child, dispose of the child they kidnapped, then later in life they find a way to profit from the child's now rich status (maybe by threatening to expose the child's true birth parents so he can't inherit anything from his rich parents)… or maybe not. No human would stoop that low… right?

Just finished reading the Mockbuster entry in TV Tropes and found about Dingo Pictures. Isn't the word "dingo" a term for a feral Australian dog? And it's in the name of a very bad animation studio in Germany?!? I wonder if the Australian air force will pay a visit to the place and lay out a nice carpet bombing for them… hmm…

—–

Maybe I should go and finally write that parody I've been wanting to write…. about a disaster aboard a submarine where everyone is trying to survive deep under the ocean. The title? 30,000 Leaks Under the Sea… :)

I'm having trouble with my granny hips again.

After several months of working bliss, my hips have suddenly decided to hurt again and prevent me from walking long distances. I've got this congenital hip defect, or something, where the head of my femur doesn't fit into the socket of my pelvis in my right side, the head of the femur is all fucked up apparently, causing the ligaments in my leg to work overly hard to keep me walking which results in a massive pain in my leg preventing me from moving more thne a couple of metres.

Basically, I have the hips of an 70 year old even though I'm only 17, and the doctor said I will probably have to have a hip replacement when I'm 30 (Hence the reason why I called them my "Granny Hips").

Uuuughhhh…. So painfuuulllll…..

Fugly isn't eating. He didn't eat anything last night and refused to eat anything this morning. Mum reckons he's too cold, and she's put a hot water bottle in his cage, remade his nest and stuck a thermometer in to check if its warm enough. Its just that its so cold within my house at this time of year, I'm not susprised he's cold. But I'm worried about him, because if he doesn't start eating, well… I don't know how long he'll last. :(

Jesus. My latest comics are so lame, I guess its from all this recent stress that I've been having to deal with, so my jokes have been really strained and lame. :/

I guess we're all somehow having a bad day. I can't sleep. Well… not yet. This is one of those times when I'm sure I'll have an accident in my sleep. I hope none of you ever develop diabetes, or if you do I hope you don't have to take meds for it… especially METFORMIN!!! Sometimes I can feel the side effects taking effect, and sometimes they can get really bad at the wrong time. I'm glad I avoid taking the stuff at least 3 hours before work as there's no way to deal with them during work except through sheer endurance of will…

I came up with a cool idea for a comic but I have no idea where to go with it and I don't really have interest in drawing it. I thought of asking for story advice on a forum but I really do think someone would steal the premise. I usually laugh when I see people like this on collab forums when they have a really cliche anime plot…ah whatever. Better safe than sorry. Maybe I'll drag it out in a few years and fix it.

I fully thumbnailed my comic and my "60 pages max" became 90 -_-. No way in hell i'm drawing all that. I whittled it down to 80 but that's still freaking high. It's partly because I made a rule not to have more than 6 panels per page, but now that's just drawing the story out.

——-

Just reading some of my favourite blogs, many of them once they become popular have to deal with people stealing various images of thers and posting them around the web on other sites while getting rid of the citation details that give the oroginal author credit. For example, I was having a read of The Oatmeal, a site with lulzy comic material and pictures, and saw in his blog that posters on Funnyjunk.com have nicked most of his stuff and loaded on their website without giving credit to him. He asked thme to remove it, and now FJ is in a eostrogen fueled uproar, calling him fairly nasty things (changing his name to "The Fag" for example.)

Its pretty sickening people can be so petty about things. I suppose its one of the dangers of posting works on the web though, there's always people who are going to think they're awesome and steal it. I've had that problem once or twice when I posted on DeviantArt, people just nicked my works and used them for their own purposes.

But policing these things is like walking into the Veitnamese Jungle in 1965 and asking everyone polietly to stop using bullets and use water guns instead.

Alright yeah, so I'm super sunburnt, right? I've been putting aloe on (where the sunburn is, of course) and today, as I go to do it for the first time, I notice within seconds it itches like crazy. Honestly to the point where it drives me insane. I took a shower, which didn't help at all, so I had to deal with this immense itching pain for a good 20-30 minutes. It doesn't sound that bad, but…I can't even explain.

Good news is, tomorrow's the last day I have to go to my high schoool wooooooooooo.

Bad news, I have to be there at 7:15.

And then commencement itself is next Tuesday.

Y'know, for being out of school, I sure have to be at school a lot (I had to be there everyday this week, except Monday).

THANK YOU <3

I made a sculpture of a cat from these last semester… A senior ate a chunk of the tail. He took my -nearly finished- sculpture down from the top shelf in the sculpture room and took a bite out of it! I don't think he actually swallowed the piece he bit off but it was never seen again. ) ':

Thanks, I hope it all get's better too, until then, I'll stuff my face with potato chips and pretend nothing is wrong.

Oh, and this may seem really wierd, but raid your bathroom cuboard and find crap loads of moisturizer. Apply crap loads of moisturizer to your sunburn constantly. It will help, trust me, and it should be much better the next day. :D

Wacom tablets: As far as I know the drivers provided by Wacom are a little wonky. They work fine MOST of the time but occasionally they bug out pretty badly. Usually rebooting helps, sometimes though a driver reinstall is necessary.

Sometimes odd stuff happens when you install a different version of the driver. And stay away from the latest ones if you can if your tablet is old. My Volito2 didn't want to work properly after I installed latest drivers and when I tried to install earlier ones, I had to manually delete register keys to resolve some bizarre conflict that was crashing my pc.

In other news: I doodled a little today and I must say, the last break didn't roll back my art skills all that far, in fact, if I keep up, I might even make progress forward within the month or so. At least I hope so.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I would, but I'm afraid that I'll itch like crazy again. I don't think my skin is dry so much anymore, it's just a matter of it healing from the terrible sun. I HATE YOU SUN. I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU.

As far as I know, I just gotta wait it out. That, and take drugs. Yayyyyyyyy.

But anyway, I'm hungry, so if you could pass some of dose' tater' chips, I reckon I'd love ya forever.

Ugh… I wish I was so lucky. My Wacom graphire won't power up at all. I'm probably gonna go get that DigiPro tablet anyway. It's pretty cheap but it will get the job done. I'll probably just use it 'til I can afford a genuine Wacom drawing tablet… which will be a while.
