so the decade is almost out. what was it all about ? how do you think people will remember it ? how is life different now than it was back in 99? i guess some people here dont remember much from the 90s. for me the biggest thing is obviously the internet. im sitting here writing this in parking lot where 10 years ago i didnt even know how to use a computer and now i'm never without one. prolly same for everyone here considering.

Remember the 2000s ???
It's too early for me to be nostalgic about the 2000s.
I'll wait until 2019, It takes 10 years for me usually. :)

I used comps in the 90s, for my art degree and at home. -The internet too.
I have more comps now, but they're with me less because I don't use laptops anymore. When I'm away from home or the office there's no comp to take with me- no laptop, net-book, or smart-phone.
I just can't be bothered getting any. I'm too used to the idea of having my comps fixed in place, at my desks etc.
Nothing really good came out of this decade. Virtually all reality television was horrible, nothing in music really stood out, and a mixture of September 11th and the recession has ultimately divided people, making the world an uglier place.
This, however, is what stupid people will remember:
- Kanye West dissed Taylor Swift! OMG!
- Family Guy becomes the cornerstone of great television! FTW!
- Viral videos! LOL!!!
- Transformers and Twilight become the greatest movies ever!
- Text Messaging!
- The Hills/Laguna Beach!
- Wardrobe Malfunction!
- John and Kate plus HATE!!! Get it?
- George W. Bush is dumb!
- South Park becomes the greatest analysis of pop culture and politics!
- Andy Samberg rules on SNL!
- Global Warming!
- Pigs give everyone Swine Flu, the modern plague!
- My Lovely Lady Lumps!
- Superhero comic movies (One word: AWESOME!!!!)
- Balloon boy!
- Hannah Montana becomes the greatest singer of all time!
- GEICO commercials!
- Yeast infections!
You forgot about the Dark Knight. :P.
Otherwise you hit it dead on. That and the internet becomes every obese child in America's addiction. I would add the drugs in there too but they've been around for a little while. :P.
What about if we go back a few years? This is a more recent list. What crap happened in 2002/2001?
I'll wait until 2019, It takes 10 years for me usually.
That is if we aren't killed in 2012. O_o…. (no actually I thouroughly believe that 2012 is a bunch of bs and the cake is a lie)
I can't really say much about the internet. I used it as a kid in the late 90s to watch flash movies, play games, download custom content, do research and find pictures for school homework. But I did join web forums and posted up art and videos in the noughties.
I also got my first mobile phone. Only for my sister to give it away years later to a friend that stole my copy of paint shop pro. I'm still angry about it! it had my custom back attached to it and everything!
This year I moved to England. Next decade may be a hard one for me with Scottish Independence gaining favor and me probably having to pick my nationality.
BASTARD SALMON MAN!

fixed.
what will i remember from this decade?
the yankees almost got shut out the whole decade in world series wins.
baseball got taken over by steroids.
2001 was a great year till 9/11.
2003-2004 will be the greatest years for playoff baseball on tv in probably the history of ever.
I had my daughter.
I'll remember
-anime and manga had its big boom
-internet and its everything
-my high school years
-reality shows
-president bush
-i got laid
-i got laid again
-3rd time was icky
-bisexual girls became a trend
-9/11
-the economy being shit
I hope the next decade is better and 2012 panic is lulz worthy.
Here's what I'll remember from this decade. The bad first:
-The average American citizen became dumber and dumber
-Being broke a lot
-Stupid reality TV
-Popular music was pretty much unremarkable
-Learning that most every major organization (including government) is run by imbeciles
-George Carlin dying
-Becoming a bitter old cynic at times
Now, the good:
-Had a girlfriend
-Thanks to the internet becoming widespread, I actually became smarter because of the massive amount of information available out there
-College, and graduating from it
-Became more sociable at the end of the decade
-Starting a webcomic, and sharing it with the world
-Pretty much quitting TV
yea the 90s were pretty great . an era of relative peace and prosperity and personal freedom . they started with the Berlin wall coming down and ended with 911, i know neither of those happened in the 90s but they are good start and end points .
the 2000s on the other hand saw us all getting a little less social , but we still believe that things like facebook and online games are adequate replacements for real life activities .
it also saw the automobile usurped as the thing guys brag about

cinicism

In fact we'd only just perked up a bit before 9/11 knocked it all down again (Whoops, bad choice of words there…).
At the start of the decade Thatcher still ruled, we were still terrified of the IRA blowing us all up, millions of people lost their jobs when the mining industry was shut down and many committed suicide because of it… I could go on.
In the end we were made a bit happier by the arrival of Tony Blair and the passing of the y2k bug panic, only for him to stab us all in the back.
This was the decade that grammar crawled into a corner, bleeding horribly, to die alone and unloved. Very sad. Very Hemingway. I'm probably the only person who still writes in complete sentences while texting (and who won't text while driving).
Most obvious things have been covered already, but I noticed that the 90s was, musically, much more danceable than music in the 2000s. However, that seems to be reversing given some of the more popular music in this past year. Grinding doesn't count.

Not quite. I think there's another one of us left somewhere out in Oregon somewhere.
I don't really remember much from the last decade really. Mostly stuff concerning my own individual life that's not too interesting to anyone else.
The only major trend I remember, is still ongoing with the revival of bad early 90's/late 80's fashion. Jorts, leggings and rumple boots are back. Unfortunately.
Things that haven't been pointed out yet:
The rise and decline of Americentrism throughout much of the western world
Gradually expanding waistlines despite the abundance of healthy food, gyms, and health information
And for me personally:
Realizing that no matter what the press and the general public says, things are, always have been and always will be completely insane. I really want to know when these "good old days" were, because as far as I can tell wars, famine, crime, and horrible disease have been pretty constant for the past…well…ever since we decided to start civilizations.
And no, 2012 isn't going to be the end of the world. The Maya calendar will simply run out because they picked an arbitrary date several hundred years in the future to stop making dates. If their civilization was still around, they'd have added more to their calendar since then. Seriously, this whole thing is like if we freaked out every December 31st because our calendars ran out of dates.
i liked the 90s , not so much the 2ooos with all the emos and myspace
also the 2oo0s saw the death of newspapers , i think things like iphones were the nail in the coffin . this guy came to my door seling newspaper perscriptions and i was all like in a whisper - i have internets shhhh
- South Park becomes the greatest analysis of pop culture and politics!
Actually it pretty much is. It's weird and hard to get used to but the show really reinvented itself.
Also balloon boy was my favorite thing that's ever happened. I hope that guy get's everything he's ever wanted.
Other than that though, yeah, horrible decade.
