Anyyywayy, so today was a normal school day, right?
Except, we gotta do a night performance for the Alice in Wonderland play, so I gotta be there in about a half hour to help set up the stage.
But the girl that is playing Alice is hot, so I don't care.
Techies unite! I'm currently Assistant Stage Manager, in my High School's award winning drama program. It was occupying a tin of my life until this most recent show (our talent show), and now we've been procrastinating a ton. Anyone else in this here thread is/was/known someone who was a techie? Curious to see how far we reach.

Also, I love the new avatar I made. I feel like I'm slowly learning how to animate as badly as I draw! :D
But yeah, it makes me chuckle to look at it for now.

Argh, I don't wanna do schoolwork! I've barely started any of the assignments I was given for spring break because I got all inspired and have been doing artistic crap instead. Now I don't know how long this inspired phase is going to last so I don't want to stop drawing, but I definitely have to do my schoolwork. Hmmm, looks like sleeping is going to have to go.
Okay, my plan: stay up as late as I need to finish my current art project tonight, and then in the next couple days do my school projects. If I have time left then I'll do the other art stuff I wanted to as well.

Turns out my laptop had some kind of timed April Fools virus that not only killed it but made it impossible to reformat internally. – Which explains why I was unable to reinstall my operating system from the CD. (I wish I knew why people I don't know want to cause me so much trouble at no benefit to themselves. :( )

The tech guy where dad works has the equipment to reformat it as an external hard drive from another computer.

Funny, that happened to the computers at my parents house with XP that they uploaded Microsoft's patch that was supposed to stop that from happening. The one they didn't put the patch on and my laptop which is running Vista have had no problems whatsoever. Sounds kind of goofy to me.

So I went out to buy a pack of lucky strikes to look at as a reference for a package design I'm working on. When I was younger going to shows and parties I used to get those things for $2.50 a pack, now they're $8.50 a pack. This project is turning out to be an incredibly expensive and time-consuming endeavor. I don't even think I'm going to break even on it with the amount of time I've put into the stupid thing. That and it's very tempting to fall into that old habit with these things. I think I might just have to give them away or burn them in the alleyway and just keep the package to avoid temptation.

I think that if you use proper caution you'll avoid most if not all viruses, malware, and spyware, it's not that hard. If you're an incautious person though who does the wrong things you'll even get malware and viruses on a Mac, so changing platforms won't help you :)

-Try and:
Use a firewall; Set your Windows updates to auto and make sure they actually do update; Get a decent antivirus program and make sure the definitions are updated regularly; You could also try a decent antispyware and anti malware program but make sure those are up to date as well (newer good antivirus programs do spyware etc anyway)…
Butmost importantly:
Be careful about the sites you visit, who uses your computer , and what you install.
If you have idiots using your computer (like parents tend to be), put them on a limited rights account that doesn't give them administrative access! And keep your admin password secret! Make sure it’s a strong one too with capitals and numbers. If you're visiting porn sites (especially the "free" kind), and warz and password sites etc, make sure you ONLY do that with a fully up to date, more secure browser that also blocks flash and java scripts (like Firefox 3 with the script and flash blocking plugins added, NOT IE!), but you should also have up to date virus protection, firewall and patched Windows etc. -evil sites will ask you to install "codecs" to help see videos, and helper programs to make it easier to download programs,- these are common and obvious things to always avoid.

Don't install any dodgy programs or seemingly good programs from dodgy places UNLESS you've done a whole bunch of virus scans of them and even then it's not that great an idea. -A whole lot of Mac users got themselves loaded with viruses doing that only a month or two ago.
-Remember, no matter how secure you think your machine is, even with all the protection in the world it's just not. You need to have good habits.

Using shit like Limewire etc is just painting a target on your arse, and always has been.

——————
Yeah, so those are some things to try and do and even then things can still get you, but generally they won't. :)
——————

WOO! 2 hours and 7 minutes till I start my weekend! :) :) :)

They say that the April Fool's Virus sneaks in past the fire wall.

But I don't know what to think about it. Could be April Fool's Hearsay.

I have antivirus protection everywhere on my computer. As to doggy downloads…I only go to sites that people I know IRL have been to. (But I go a couple months later just in case.)

Heh. My parents have a fit at me every time I go home to unlock the computer and give them admin rights. I refuse every time. But not because of them. My sister thinks she's some sort of computer genius and tries to "maintain" them. I may not be a super hacker or rocket scientist, but I know what it looks like when someone does something dumb.

I just find it incredibly odd that the computers that got the patch were the ones affected and not the others. The only difference between those computers and the network server at their house was that the server didn't have the patch installed because they didn't get to it in time. If I were a little more of a conspiracy nut, I'd suppose this is some sort of plot by Microsoft to force people to switch to Vista or something like that.

The April fools day stuff is a mixture of things:
- Viruses and malware already on computers tend to download extra instructions and things and perform special actions on that day- it's tradition :)
- The current scare program "down and up" or "corficker" is a worm. Those exploit vulnrbilities in your OS to download onto any computer with that vulnerability unpatched that's connected to the net.

But that vulnerability was patched in Windows last year in October… So it's not an issue if you've been updating :)
You can still get it from USB flash drives that have been connected to an unpatched computer that has the viruses if you still have autorun enabled in Windows and haven't got a working up to date antivirus program.
But even so, the chance is small.

Experts aren’t so worried about people getting that worm, what they're worried about is what the creator will do with the comps that are already infected.- plus, at the moment that worm won't hurt an infected comp anyway, just stop updates…

Shit, I'm pretty sure my tablet just became pretty much useless. At first I thought it was photoshop but then I noticed that it was occasionally taking more than one tap for my computer to register me having clicked on something. Just when I needed it! I don't know what to do. I don't even know how this happened so quickly!

Edit: Okay…so looking at internet sites and at my tablet, it seems to be just that the nib is incredibly worn down. So I just need replacement ones, which don't cost too much. Which doesn't help me at all because I need this for my school project which is due Monday! Goddamnit.

I never said it wasn't lol! I was just pointing out that the colorist tends to be the least appreciated part of the team for the work they put in.

I appreciate people who know the joy of coloring very much madam, therefore you are mistaken.

EDIT: Also, i think typesetter is lower on the food chain. At least colorists get their name in pretty large letters in print comics.

A good colorist can really do wonders to the artwork. The people who do Vampire Phantasm recently did a coloring contest and the winner did a fabulous work. Check it out. The runner ups can be found there as well.

That's a shame… good colouring is a real skill and a lot of hard work. I could see colourists being lowly in a lot of American commercial comics- that stuff is generic gradient point and click brain dead area selection shit. It makes me HATE digital colour to see that sausage filler superhero colour work- in those comics colouring is irrelevant, they look almost the same without it.
But for the comics that have real colouring (whether digital or whatever), that stuff really adds a whole new dimension to the work!

Psh, coloring…Ha!
Grey is the way to go!

…right?

Haha, just kidding.
Yeah, a nicely done colored comic is the greatest.

And not all American comics are gradient point-and-click terrible, some of the newer Captain America ones (and by newer, I mean like, back during his death, since those are the last issues I got) used a painting kind of style. It was kind of nice.

I finally got it through my head, that I think my comic finally looks, and works better without color. :)

Oh crap! I already have to go BACK to school in about 10 minutes. I was there twice yesterday!
So I think I'm going to order more ink tonight for my copics, and maybe my brush pen too.
Who knows.

Also, drawing a really really sweet pin-up (another one! woo!)

Heh. I probably appreciate colorists because that's the one thing I cannot frickin' do to save my life. ;)

Although I do think, like someone said, letterers/ type-setters get the lowest level of props.

I ate at the stupid Olive Garden last night- and went to bed at like, 8pm because I felt so awful. I still feel like arse, and there was a bunch of stuff I was supposed to do last night that I totally flaked out on. Ah well. Stupid cheese. Why is it so delicious, and soooo bad for me?

We got the last two female cats fixed yesterday, weird how it changes their personality. Like this gray/white one was really cautious and avoided me(was the only one i couldn't pet) and now she wont leave me alone (like allll night) I guess she thinks i'm a mommy since she won't stop patty caking me to the point of a full body massage and then digging her mouth in my side for my imaginary kitty nipples -__- (this cat is several months old mind you)
Anyways the other one used to be nice and quiet, now she' all cautious and wont stop crying 'mao D: mao? mao???!' at the door. I can't let her out til' 3 days at least…
But seriously the grey/white one does not stop patty caking, she turned over on her back once and started doing it to the air.

ARG! Packing sucks. I forgot this is the kinda crap you pretty much have to do while drunk. Or at least I do. Take the damn edge off; this stresses me out. But I'm out of beer. I feel like punching someone. Really… Grr.

It ain't as bad as last time, though- when we finally were allowed back in the city after Katrina, we only had a week to pack up an entire house! We ended up leaving all our furniture, an entire bookshelf worth of books, a bunch of stuff that got moldy when the back of the house and the shed got crushed… At least I've got a few months head start this time. Sheesh.

No thanks. But my sister told me that either she can tell, or I have to…which is not great, but better in a way because I can just tell my dad and he might be upset but he's not looking for an excuse to kick me out like my mom is.

I wish! Just kidding. I didn't even do anything that bad. But my sister is super straight-edge and my mom really doesn't like me.

Ugh…

I just fulfilled all the requirements to get my comic reviewed, and now they take me off the list and make a new rule where Paint comics don't qualify for reviews anymore. So, now the only way I can plug my comic is on the HELWID forum, which means no one will see it, which means I'm not going to write comics for a while… again…

Also, why does everyone that wants to create designs for me in the Networking forum never do it? I have like half a dozen people saying, "That looks cool! I have a few designs I can give you," and then they don't do anything after that.

A lot of people on this site are idiots…
