Is anyone else using Twitter at the moment?
I freely admit I'm a bit of a technophobe and therefore slow to recognise the merits of all these new and supposedly innovative forms of networking, so I'd be interested to know whether any of you internet-savvy types are actually using it. Do you think it has any real value?
Personally, I'm skeptical but I've started an account there (http://twitter.com/brokenvoice), just in case I'm wrong, so - if you do use it - feel free to add me!

It is pretty much impossible to be interesting on Twitter unless you are famous, or whoever is following you has some intrinsic interest in you (like your friends). However, it is useful for announcing comic updates and stuff, which is why most of the people I follow on twitter are webcomic people. It gives me a nice way to keep up with their comics and a way to send them a quick comment. :]
I am very amused by Twitter at the moment. Random status updates and comic progress, yee.
Also, I'm sure there's another Twitter thread on here somewhere now.
I have a twitter. The problem is keeping it up to date. I can usually post something a few times a day though, be it what I'm up to, thoughts and feelings, etc. It's almost become a habit to visit the site and blab on about nothing in less that 140 characters.
*shrug* I've got a twitter.

Yup! There's another Twitter thread in Advertising Discussion.
I personally think it's just like Facebook where you tell people "what you're doing right now", but since I recently deleted my Facebook account, I went ahead and started one. Like most people here, I think it's a good way to tell people you updated your comic.

You get 140 characters to say something, supposedly 'what I am doing right now'. It's like livejournal for people who are ADHD. You can subscribe to other twits/tweeters/twitterers and when you check your page, you get a list of all the stuff they've blurbed recently.
The sad thing is, it's pretty addicting. As soon as you say something about "I am watching the big lebowski right now" and people reply with big lebowski quotes… you start to think just about anything is worth a 140-character comment.
There ARE people out there with intersting things to say, but mostly in the sense that they're managing the Mars Rover or are Stephen Fry on location shooting with whales, or things like that. If you're following normal people you kinda have to be interested in them, their lives, or their work for twitter to be any good.
I see everyone going on about how it's such a brilliant way to network and grow a fan base, client base, etc., but I fail to see how it's much of anything but an exceptionally good way to distract you from doing the work that you should be doing. I don't forseee anything that I do that's interesting that I could also share without getting myself in all sorts of trouble.
Just reminds me that 90% of becoming successful in any career has apparently nothing to do with good or hard work, but rather how good you are at making yourself look.
Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, and sites like them are understood as social networks but they are nothing more than an avenue for people to get drunk with the delusion of self importance as though their life is worth someone's interest.
It all stems from the desire to be loved and adored and intstead of going out to meet real people and deal with real heartbreak, people are moving to these sites for the faxsimile and illusion it offers.
This generations 15 minutes of fame or digital teddy bear.
I can imagine a story from this where a person all alone in room with nothing but their computer posting on a site like one of these and having bots send replies and comments to this person's every quote and the person feels loved, not knowing they are the last person in the world.
cliche… maybe.
but many times we don't realize how alone we are.

Maybe there are some people who treat social networking that way, but for me it's just for getting u to date one things- a communication medium, nothing more.

My brother used Facebook to insult me and make me feel like s**t every time I posted anything, so I guess that applies to Midge's description. I got sick of it, so I deleted my Facebook account. I could have just blocked him, but….meh, I didn't use Facebook much.
Twitter's OK I guess, but I can't find many RL friends on it. Ah well.
I do see it as useful for letting people know when you update your webcomic, so that's nice.
