Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, and sites like them are understood as social networks but they are nothing more than an avenue for people to get drunk with the delusion of self importance as though their life is worth someone's interest.
I'd dissagree. Maybe there are some people who treat social networking that way, but for me it's just for getting u to date one things- a communication medium, nothing more.

In essence it is a communication medium but most people use it more than that. Everyone who uses it wants to do is communicate, connect and feel like their life matters. You can't argue with that. But my point is more than the essence of what it is and what its supposed to be used for. Its what it has become.

a platform for self-absorbtion and delusionment.

Just like MySpace and Facebook before it, then. It will have its 15 minutes as the "must-use" medium of the moment. And then it will be replaced by something else to consume our every waking hour!

I see it as an interesting way to get insights, good or bad, into my friends' and acquaintances' minds. People post some bizarre and intriguing things sometimes. I've definitely learned a thing or two – and I try to make it interesting when I post, too. Some people I've stopped following because I don't want to know what's going on in their minds!

I've started using Facebook to help promote Due East. And when we come out with new updates on the comic, I will probably use Twitter the same as FB, to get the word out.

I avoided FB and Twitter for a long time because I didn't see much use for them, either. But they are both addicting in their own way. They – like any tool – are what you make of them.

My brother used Facebook to insult me and make me feel like s**t every time I posted anything
That's not much of a brother… :(

Nope. :(

aww, poor lastcall.

I don't have a twitter– I have enough trouble updating my facebook status, and I don't think any of my friends are on twitter.

I think Facebook isn't "an avenue for people to get drunk with the delusion of self importance as though their life is worth someone's interest." It's how I stay in contact with friends who are far away, like my friend Laura who's in England, or my sister who's in connecticut, or my mom. It's so useful– whenever I forget my phone at my boyfriend's place, I just facebook him, and all is right.
Also it's fun looking back at old pictures and remembering the good times– and commenting on them with old jokes, and having your friends comment too.

My life is worth someone's interest– granted, not the general populace, but my friends' and family's interest, at least.

i got an account. only to announce when i update POWERJEFF and give minor blurbs about where i am in the creative process for the upcoming pages.

ultimately, to get more readers for my comic. i'm a publicity whore that way. JsonTheGeek on there, by the way……

my life isn't that interesting aside from getting people to read PJ…..i don't think anyone gives a rat's ass about how many beers into the case i am or who and what i tattooed the day before…..

Most of the people that have twitters have no life. So their updates go something like this:

Fed cat.
Got hungry.
Ate cat.
Sharpened a pencil.
Tripped on my own feet.
Walked upstairs.
Hung noose on hook.
Got out chair.
Stepped up on top of chair.
Tied noose around neck.
Kicked chai-

My twitter goes a little something like this…

Just made coffee and sat at computer

Sitting at computer

listening to music whilst sitting at computer

Sitting at computer while I should be drawing

Just farted on my computer chair

And pretty much that sums up the twitter experience for me thus far

http://twitter.com/antiadventures

add me anyway for comic updates and what not

I got rid of my Twitter account recently; I didn't really see a need for it. The stuff I need to say, I say it on Facebook.

I'm gonna assume that most of you have already seen this… but it's so bloody relevant to this topic.

Wow, that cartoon was great!

I used to dislike blogs because of their tendency to give uninteresting people the chance to tell the internet how they feel about the latest American Idol or what their dog did. Now I hate Twitter for doing the same thing at an even more inane level.

I wouldn't mind it at all, except EVERYONE keeps talking about it, including people who are not very knowledgeable about computers. When your 46-year-old aunt is Twittering, you know it can't be THAT cool.

I apologize to those of you using Twitter and enjoying it. I don't look down on you. But please don't feel bad if I continue to come to this message board to hear your opinions rather than Twitter.

The animation was good, but as far as its application to Twitter goes- like most satire it doesn't: It just exaggerates an impression or idea of it for humorous effect. ;)

It's a form of network communication like forums, text messaging, phone calls, whatever. We can always characterise people as deluded wierdos for doing things we don't.
lol!

LOL, that's a good cartoon.

I signed up for twitter, and then realized how little I have to say, especially to a vast abyss of no one.
I don't really like the whole idea, anyway. :(

I have this Twitter account, but I rarely update it. It makes more sense when you have a subscription on dA and can make your "tweets" appear there or put the feed on your often visited website. Anyway, people don't care about my twitter and only the ones who friended me on facebook ever read my notes there.

It is pretty much impossible to be interesting on Twitter unless you are famous, or whoever is following you has some intrinsic interest in you (like your friends). However, it is useful for announcing comic updates and stuff, which is why most of the people I follow on twitter are webcomic people. It gives me a nice way to keep up with their comics and a way to send them a quick comment. :]

Skool I am dedicating this song to you

No, my life is not interesting enough to warrant telling people what I'm doing at any given time.

This is a trait I share with everyone who uses Twitter.

ZING! close the thread.

No, I have no Twitter, and don't see myself getting one. It seems pointless when you can just get a Facebook and do the exact same thing, except actually do more interacting with people.

But I do admit it would be a good tool to get updates out about your webcomics.
