I think Walter Koenig would go along the use of his face if he is kissing Hippie Van.
I'd pattern my command style after this guy:

Goldie and Peppermint, our goldfish, died on Sunday. I am struggling to come to terms with this.

I loved those little fishies. :(

My condolences.  It's hard to lose a beloved pet, let alone TWO of them.
Just curious though… Were they the same age?  I figure it's hard to lose two gold fish at once.  :(

I can actually imagine Bravo as that kind of captain.  Strict and efficient which would be Commander Katch's reason for her frustration with him.
As for the guy in the picture, here's a link.

And of course those with a knowledge of naval history will know Edward Jellico was named for this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Jellicoe,_1st_Earl_Jellicoe

We have to remember that Roddenberry andhis successors do not name always ships or characters at random.  If it sounds like a reference to an historical (and occasional fictional) ship or person it invariably is.

But where is USS Surprise?

I would like to captain the USS Barnacle, a garbage scow full of underestimated outcasts!
Like the Bad News Bears of Star Trek.

I can't stop giggling at the name Jellico. It's just funny. I have the maturity of a 12 year-old. It sounds dirty. Like something you'd do while drunk.
Which speaking of; the drunkcast is incredibly entertaining and highly remniscent of a podcast I just partook in with a friend. That one involved a lot more tales of debauchery and mocking Harvey Pekar though. This one is definitely the less offensive and more publicly amusing of the two.

More of a Red Dwarf, Quark, or Hyperdrive then? Yes, definitely Hyperdrive!

Yay, the Quackcast is up. Damn, I'll have to start promoting that stuff and organising it again…
We need more admin people who want to do community stuff now. Down with the old reigime of Skoolmunkee and Ozoneocean! Up with a NEW reigime of a bunch of people who love doing specific things, like Features, promotions, news posts, all that sort of stuff.

To tell the truth, I just really want to draw and think about comics. :)
That's sad about your fish scarf!

So I for a bit of humor I go and look up a vid that I have not seen in a while…
The Simpsons: The Evolution of Homer Simpson

Then I look at the comments….
Yep… even if the video is supposed to be funny, there's always someone who wants to make it unfunny…

I thought there was an issue with mods - that they couldn't actually do anything, or something?
If we've somehow worked that out I would love to help, though!

Oh yeah, we still have that mod problem. but if we can get changes made to the site now that won't be an issue! :)

- The other thing is basically just iving straight out adminstration privilages to trusted people and trusting them to do just that one thing, which we could do right now.
Now I don't have an issue trusting people with that power at all, especially someone like you Hippie, where we run into trouble is having a lot of people with the access and that increasing the chances that people will get in by going through them

I still favour this approach now and am considering opening it up.

I swear to all gods that if given such power, I would only use it to be an abusive, malfeasant, problem to all who inhabit this site and to wreak utter destruction and chaos wherever and wnenever possible. I promise to take all bribes, coerce people at all opportunities and utterly fail to uhold any and all promises I should make during my tenure.

I would also institute casual Monday-Thursday, and promise to attend all board meetings dressed as a Sith Lord, attempting to force choke the other members.

If someone actually puts in the time to read and comment on this board in this thread, they're probably worth approaching as they have the time and probably care about stuff.

Except me.  I can't remember anything anymore and am motivated to do even less.  I spent the last few days sleeping 14-15 hours a day.

Aye there's the rub, for in that sleep, what dreams may come…
I sleep that long and I usually get "nightmares" that end with me thrashing around.  The other day I kicked the wife really hard in her sore knee. I'm often pretty good about hitting empty air but not that time.

They're not true scary nightmares just really frustrating situations that drive me to violence and ending the dream as I act it out.

I often have one in the dreams. I've woken up making gun noises and my hands rocking with the recoil.  I am alucid enough dreamer to know it is a dream and even to mostly thrash out where I know there is empty air.  But sometimes I miss the empty air and accidently hit the wife.

On another front; working, working, working.  How did I ever tolerate this whole 5 day a week, 40 hour thing?  Oh thats right I was younger and didn't get dizzy spells.    And why do the credentials for one of the lowest paying jobs around cost so damn much?

I actually met Walter Koenig today!
There wasn't anyone else in line to see him so we had a nice little conversation, got a picture with him and he even hugged me. It was pretty awesome, and he genuinely seemed really nice.
Then I walked away and immediately started crying. Haha! I was really excited to meet him, but I totally surprised myself with that. I'm just glad I held it together long enough that I didn't cry in front of him.

I really wish I could care about Star Trek… I've never been able to enjoy any of the series. I did like some of the movies though, both the old ones and the new.

In other news: I've just finished illustrations for a children's book celebrating the 200 year anniversary of the Dutch kingdom. A massive reanactment is planned to occur in about a month's time and the book I helped create is planned to be distributed at least 2000 times to primary schools around my part of the country. I've worked on small comic books before, but I have to admit I'm extremely excited to be connected to something so awesome.

In other, other news: I've finished my first novel, now all I need to do is make sure it is actually worth reading. It's called Topdeck and it is about a god and his attempts to actually enjoy and experience his creation. He carries around a pack of tarot-like cards containing his essence. His identity is decided by the last card he looked at until finally he will draw the god-card and return to his original being. I really enjoyed the act of writing it.

Um… congrats?

*attempts to hide his slight jealousy*

Oh, well… at least Michael Dorn is reprising his role as Worf in Star Trek Online.  You get to work with him in the prelude to the next season.  A mission called "the Sphere of Influence".  He seems to be an old, wizened Worf now, not the klingon starfleet officer who rushed into every battle.  My favorite quote from him so far?

"Prudence is not cowardice." which he says when the klingon captain he's with accuses the current Enteprise captain (an andorian named Shon) of being a coward when he suggests closing an iconian gate to keep whatever dangers within from coming through.

That's amazing Kroatz! However did you manage to score that? It's collossal! ^_^
=================

In other news, I'm starting to get new people in to help with first up is kawaiidaigakusei to take over features from Skool. I will be on the look out for MORE people to handle stuff like that…
It's a massive resposnibility. You have to have the time to be able to do this stuff and be able to do it ON time, weather there are people to cheer you on and give you feedback or you're doing it all on your own into the void with no feedback at all… and not using it for self promotion.
Can you commit to that?

I will need a second featurer, a Newsposter, and a social media manager monster!
