Kitty Cats vs Puppy Dogs?! Who's side are you on?!

Yeah, which of the pets above is your choice pet and why? And if neither of those float your furry boat then which pet dominates both the almighty cat and dog and why?
I personally prefer cats because they're self caring and don't need as much care as a dog; are less expensive to have; can jump like 10 feet into the air; have cute voices; the males are less aggressive than females, lol; are just all around cool; and the broad species of Big Cats inspire me to own one of their smaller domestic brethren.

What about yourselves?!

I'm a dog person, completely. They have a lot of personality. They're expensive and a lot of work at times, but money isn't really an issue with my family and I personally think it's worth it. I have three small dogs and they're interesting to say the least.

Cats, on the other hand, are okay but I would never own one. They kinda creep me out and all the cat people I know are oddly obsessed with them. They can be cute, but they're sort of boring. Might as well get a goldfish.

boring
I wish T_T

Some nights my cat just wants to play and play and play…And keep me from going to bed. But he's damn cute >^_^<

-Cats and dogs.
Both are destructive, but cats less so. also, dogs pong more and don't live nearly as long (in general).
Dogs are good for exercise, socialising with people, making you feel more secure in dodgy areas, they're good at protecting the home…
But they poo everywhere all the time and even eat poo…
Cats get fur all over ALL your clothes and put holes in things with their claws.
dogs ruin shoes…

In the end, I find cats cuddlier, so they win.
Cuddling a dog is like cuddling a bag full of tennis rackets. Dogs generally aren't made for cuddling.

I've always had cats. I love cats. They have great personalities whether they have little attitudes or are completely affectionate. They don't have body odor and don't need any training. They are mostly quiet, but the talkative ones have lovely voices (provided they are spayed/neutered – unaltered cats are insane). They can be left alone when one goes on vacation. Cats appreciate people but they don't NEED you, so they are more like friends than like children. That said, all the cats I've had have sought out affection and attention. My cat April is 16 years old, and she still likes to learn new tricks and follows me everywhere. My sister's cat can jump five feet in the air for a toy and plays fetch. (No dog I've known personally played fetch with me. :( But I've had four cats who did.) Plus cats live longer and don't have as many medical concerns or medical/behavioral "surprises" like dogs.

I have dog-sat and fostered dogs (I had one for 5 months), and all the things that make dogs different, I do like. I like that dogs need you. I like that they require time and training. I loved the feeling I got from connecting to a dog and realize she was learning and listening to me. I like walking with a (not-small) dog, because it gives me confidence, and it makes me more social. Dogs need to socialize and enjoy it, and there are lots of places to take your dog. (I'm terribly introverted.) Cats, on the other hand, do not, in general, enjoy being taken places. They are most comfortable within their own territory (your home and/or yard). That's more how I am, but I desire being more outgoing. I'm afraid dogs can really limit one's time to get out and do things because they are so needy.

I think I would enjoy owning one if I ever live alone and have the money. However, he/she would have to get along with cats, because I will never be without a cat or two.

EDIT:
Heh, Ozone summarized my feelings up much better.

Cats are cute but I like dogs. The Boston Terrier is the best, what with their big eyes that can't fit in their heads.

I'm preferential to dogs myself, but have found both species work best when hunted in a pack. For the long chase, there's nothing better than a good hound, and cats simply can't measure up when it comes to flushing, but for sheer audacity and willingness to work in small spaces, you'll not find a better creature than a cat. Indeed, I myself have a couple of felines and a good pointer who work admirably as a team. Not even tv is as exciting as watching them corner a mouse and allow the dog to finish it.

Me too, I love both. (But I only have dogs, my cat died a while back.) They both are cute and cool for different reasons.
Why aren't there more "I love cats AND dogs" people in the world? When will this horrible war end?! =(

I like 'em both.

But to answer the question: hamsters. Nature's little puffy cheeked clown.
My hamster used to relentlessly run after the cat in his hamster ball. Somehow, the little critter realized he achieved godmode in that thing.

Here are a couple pictures that I think will help end this silly debate.

So just how the heck do you choose between these two adorable, awesome animals? Answer: Ya don't!

LOL! Nice Hppie Van!! I guess that settles it…. but then again, people have their own opinions. Both may be fluffy and cuttle-ie to the fullest, but each animal has its own bad attributes and good. Nice solution tho. Had me laughin'!

I like them both, but I've taken a third option. I have lizards. And they are absolutely adorable and aren't nearly as much fuss as a mammal. I mean, if you don't feed a mammal for several days that's cruel; if you try to make my lil' leopard geckos eat everyday you're gonna wind up force feeding them and they'll get fat. Plus they'll probably hate you for force feeding them. While I freakin' love reptiles (they always fall under one of 3 categories for me: adorable, beautiful or fuckin' cool), I love all animals and will happily fawn over anyone's pet provided it doesn't attack me.

How can reptiles be cute? Like so:

Hee hee…that's not one of my geckos, but it looks a lot like two of them.

Heh, your pic doesn't show up for me in the forums unless I paste the address directly in the browser. Cute :)
It's a smile created by the camera angle though… Like dolphin "smiles" it's a fixed grin. Can lizards show pleasure? You'd know and I'd be interested to!
Cats "smile" with their eye muscles, rather obviously. Dogs tend to do it by opening their mouths wide and all that tongue lolling. How do other animals do it?

I know lizards are quite expressive in their way, there's a lot of geckos and skinks of all kinds that roam around my house, especially in summer (now). When they're angry they rear up and open their jaws in a threatening pose and screech at each other. When they're scared they might open their mouths and threaten to bite or just make peeping sounds…
It's funny to watch the teeny little shiny skinks fight each other in the garden: they charge about at high speed, making lightning leaps at each other, screeching loudly as they do it. Normally they're so slow, mechanical, and timid.

Anyway; how do lizards show they're happy? Is it eye squints or what?

my brother used to have a pet Iguana… whenever you petted it, it would close it's eyes and make this little noise in contentment. it was also partial to neck rubs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVlNUCwrRZ4 much like this one actually.

oh, and I'm totally a dog person. They're just so lovable and cuddly. :p

plus, they don't shed as much as cat do… which has always been a pet peeve of mine. :p

I going to have to agree with Hippie Van here. When I look at either one, the logic part of my brain shuts down and the 'speak gibberish' part starts firing on all cylinders.

But then again, if we want an answer to this debate, a cage match is needed, post haste.

I've always been a cat person, simply because they have a unique, independent spirit all their own, yet at the same time, they can be talkative, friendly companions. Dogs are cool too, but they seem a little too obedient and loyal (not to mention smelly). A plus to cats is that they are great for apartments and condos, since they are cheap, don't need a lot of room, and you don't have to take them out for a walk every hour. I've had both cats and dogs, and cats win in my book. …Unfortunately, my husband is allergic to them, so no cats in this house. (Until he dies and I become known around the neighborhood as the Crazy Cat Lady, with 60+ cats.) ;)

Wel, I'm more of a dog person, because they're playful, cute, loyal, and simply: Man's best friend. I don't like cats because they hair, hairballs, curtains-scratches AND the couch, oh GOD the couch! Oh well. That's my two cents!

It's 3:30 am in the morning. My cat just bought me a baby rat, and then he made sure I stayed near him as he purred and happily scrunched and munched it all down, from the tip of its nose to the end of its tale. No blood, no mess, no trace left.

That's love and devotion for you. Cat style.

Cats always tend to attack my face… dogs usually go for the groin.

I think I like cats better, even though Ive always had dogs and never cats of my own…

Puppies!!!

Cats are OK (most of the times), but there's always that evil aura of them…

I always liked dogs more…

While I'm sure that different species have their own "happy" expressions, the ones I've owned/looked after tend to just chill out when they're happy or they'll sort of meander around either on hands/arms or on the floor. I mean, once you've got a lizard used to you whose species doesn't mind being handled overall it's not unheard of for them to just curl up and go to sleep on you since we produce the heat they love. Although one feisty fella I adopted had an odd way of showing his affection…he liked to jump into my hair. One minute he'd just be completely relaxed, eyes closed and almost asleep, and the next I'd have a face full of lizard and get a bit scratched up as he tried to snuggle into my hair. Good thing he wasn't a very big species!
