Yup. I've entered yer name into the draft for mandatory feminist mind cleaning, mr. 1337.
————— Ah- so that's how they're putting downward pressure on Comic Con ticket sales. I miss that place, but it was so crazy that I haven't been in a few years. Tee hee. The first year I went, I ended up rooming with a group of slash fiction writers. So there was me, an effeminate male cartoonist in his early 20's, with a group of 15 or so women between 30 and 55 years old whose major common interest was writing gay fan fiction. Of course, I can't complain too much since I roomed with them my second year too XD
—————– It doesn't seem like I got very much done yesterday. I think I'm switching to a more standard thrice-weekly update schedule for my second project, meaning I have the first five weeks worth finished and the full run for the first story would take about 15 weeks instead of 6. That really removes some of the pressure so I was social most of the day instead. The only thing I did was get a poll up for the content of FAIL's second book. Two votes so far :3
For me, "nice" and "sunny" don't really go together that well right now. —————-
I've just realised something about my job: I basically just fell into graphic design a few years ago. I had no direct training in the field, my schooling was in primarily in fine arts and some multimedia and interactive design… only tangentially related. BUT, I'm good with comps and picked it up as I went along.
For a lot of the time I thought my route was rather unique and that most people who do graphic design must have actually learned it at some point.
Turns out I was wrong. It's pretty rare that I've encountered another graphic designer in the course of my job that actually knows what they're doing (-ie atLEAST knows as much as I do). It's so rare in fact that I'm disproportionately overjoyed when I actually do.
The flipside is dealing with corporate guidelines for logo usage that some big graphic design firm has put together for BP or some multibillion dollar mining company or bank. They pay hundreds of thousands of dollars and these firms make them a slightly changed version of the logo they already had along with a 20 page booklet detailing every aspect of the logo's usage, just to justify the massive price tag. What these companies don't realise is that they're being conned- those booklets are all produced to a template and they're mostly fricken useless. You only need a single page of info to tell people how to use your logo, the rest is worthless snot to impress the stupid client and confuse the crap out the the graphic artists unlucky enough to have to consult them.
So I managed to piss off yet another person in my life.
She's been bugging me for weeks to take her to her prom and I've constantly told her that I don't want to go, let along with her because she pulled this "be my last resort" thing on me last year and almost had me go because she broke up with her boyfriend the day before it.
So jokingly the other day I quoted "I'll bite your legs off!" and told her that if she could find out the quote I'd go.
She found it out and expected me to follow through.
Like hell.
So no. I am not going. And yes. She is quite pissed with me right now.
But I don't really give that much of a damn and don't think I should have to.
I'm sick of doing things for others that make me feel worse and them better. I'm an asshole and I think you people need to realize that in my life I come first.
Oh god i'm so lucky it's ridiculous sometimes. I won these in an auction: http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/583/img5783k.jpg And paid 26$ inc shipping. The lion doll is worth 80 fucking dollars. And that's what people have actually paid for it, sometimes up to 100$.
I mean I'm never going to sell it but I still can't believe my luck.
The amusing part is that my mother was a part of the local version of the feminist separatist movement. Y'know, the movement that kinda inspired almost every feminazi stereotype you've ever heard.
—————- Made three weeks of satire for FAIL to fill the gaps between books today. Still feel like I've been lazy- Still haven't finished the third chapter of my next project, Daedalus.
————— Omg. I managed to get my hands on a bottle of sarsaparilla. I used to date a girl whose parents owned a home brewing store, so they introduced me to it. Sweet action. It's not as good as the home brew they made, but it'll do.
Comic Con is a bit expensive with the latest release of tickets being tied to accommodation now isn't it? ^_^ Still, I can't wait for my holiday in the sates again.
——— I wish it was cooler here so I could start exercising again! I miss exercise! At least it's a long weekend now because of labour day on Monday AND the weather is forecast to be cooler, so I look forward to that.
THAT, is because everything sold out in a day, A DAAAYYYYYY~!!o__e i was so pissed i couldn't get a ticket, computer …nrrrrggg #$%&

The World According to Garp?
But yes ^^ it'll be fun to see you again <3
You too! I'll see what I can do to help out with tickets. ^_^
Hopefully you guys will get another cool summer over in that particular part of the world, I am super fed up with the heat here now. -_-
Heh… having way too much fun with Resident Evil's Mine Thrower weapon. Think of it as a gun that shoots grenades exactly where you want to put them. That merchant wasn't kidding when he says that you need guts as well as money to buy that weapon. Shot a crow with one of its darts and if flew straight at me. At least it was very useful at the canyon stage. Too bad I don't get enough darts to take everything out. Now if only I had that weapon in real life…
Or maybe not. I never know when I might fire that thing absentmindedly… O_O
So I saw a photo of The Comics Journal #301. A 624 page book of interviews and articles on comics and I thought "holy shit, I want to publish a book this thick, except with comics". And then I realized that in a way I can!
First, Ka-blam offers paperback printing up to 760 pages. Second, I have this project that I've been trying to hopelessly rewrite to fit a specific set of volumes… a project which runs nearly 500 pages. Third, the only actual rewrites I need for this one are some pacing changes and additional panels here and there to smooth out some scenes, which would most likely expand it up to 500-550 pages at most! Fourth, it's meant to be b/w so the printing cost won't be too high! Aaand fifth, I can make it not only thick BUT also MAGAZINE SIZED :D
It's been forever since I've seen the movie(and haven't read the book), but from what I remember: kinda, yeah. When I was a kid, pretty much every adult in my life outside of school was gay or a lesbian (and more of the latter than the former). My mother was on the moderate side of things, but I was still raised to be as gender neutral as possible- and with the assumption that everyone was inhntly bisexual. I had a cute moment with my mom where I had to sit down with her and say "mom… I know you might disappointed… but I think I'm straight…"

A 8x10.5x1.2 inch (if at 540 pages, heh) brick :D
The big question I'm asking myself is… should I?
The best part is that the pricing on those books has the binding cost, then the cost per page. So a 500 page book (1 binding, 500 pages) is cheaper than five different 100 page books (5 bindings, 500 pages). I don't know if the market has a preference, but if I can offer a better product (more content) at a lower cost- shoot, that's the direction I'd go. As an example, black and white manga sized: 100 pages cost $4.07 per book, 200 pages cost $5.19 per book, 300 pages cost $6.31, 400 pages $7.43, 500 pages $8.55.
Result: one book, 500 pages long: $8.55 in printing. Five books, 100 pages each at $4.07 per book: $20.35 in printing. The brick also means shipping fewer items (though that might be a wash depending on extra weight per shipped item). But it also means that instead of worrying about having 5 books in stock, you only have to worry about keeping up with one- which makes it easier to take advantage of any bulk printing discounts.
Actually, I've been wavering- right now my plan is to publish just one massive brick with all of my projects (as in, I could sell you a book with FAIL for $8, or, for an extra $2 you could get twice as much material; my target page count for the first volume of collected works is similar to what yer lookin' at with your brick). But with my luck, that probably means the market would counterintuitively prefer smaller books of individual projects :p
There's probably room for a discussion worth it's own thread in there somewhere ._.
Lovely… I find myself being invited to a beta of Darkspore… whatever that is. I guess I'm about to find out as I'm downloading the game right now…
argh… time to pour vinegar down the coffee maker again. Jeez… the thing keeps getting clogged thanks to the water around here. And there's no way I'm going outside. That big ball of fire up in that huge field with the floating puffy things keeps trying to cook me. O_O

Don't forget to tack on some profit onto that :D
The way I see it, 500+ page magazine sized book would be ok for 30$. But yeah, five hundred pages? That's possibly a year or more of work. Plus having to figure out the page dimensions all over again. Also, the project still needs tons of visual research. It's meant to be medieval/goth/vk/baroque/victorian/art nouveau inspired thing, so that means lots of decorative shit and most likely heavy crosshatching and detailing, heh.
But if I don't do that one, I'll dive into my ongoing one, which will mean no standalone books for at least couple of years. (this one though would be drawn in a cleaner, cartoonier and slightly manga influenced way).
but yeah, we'll see what happens *puts on her weatherlady suit* >w>
?
Great movie ^__^
"mom… I know you might disappointed… but I think I'm straight…"
I LOVE that :)

Did I ever tell you guys about the Vietnam era Aussie battledress shirt I found in the back of one of my wardrobes one day? Still no idea how it got there, it's in perfect condition too apart from some fraying around the label. It's from 1966. It's not my dad's, because he didn't save his stuff from then and it's too small for him anyway. I can only imagine that I must have got it with a bunch of op-shop stuff one day without even seeing it and just hung it in there without thinking.
I only bring it up now because I'm having my first cool night in months so I've put the shirt on for warmth and it looks great- very late 1960s hippie ^__^
-no rank markings or anything on it, just plain drab olive green stiff material.
diet progress… my waist today was down to 87cm. Slow but steady. The goal is around 75cm or lower. Although anything below 80 will be satisfying
- - - - -
I have pondered on the "brick of comics" and decided to start doing something in that direction. Right now I'm rereading the script and noting down all the things I need to research, design or find visual reference for.
Then I'll be googling, googling, googling, flipping through books, screencapping movies (not for tracing of course) and sketching, designing, planning.
Meanwhile, the b/w short comics collection I'm working on? I'm getting the urge to color that. I'll see how I feel about it once all 52 pages are completed.

I haven't been that skinny in 20 years, I don't think it is possible for me to get as slim as you aim for, I've always been built like a brick shithouse.
I haven't checked my weight or wist since i began my diet but it's going well. AS in I'm sticking to it, so far.
I just spent three days over my guitarist's house with my drummer too, writing songs.
We wrote two. One being mine and the other being my drummer's.
We have a Facebook page but I don't really want to go get the link because I don't use Facebook but my guitarist and drummer do.
But this is my angry part of the story.
The song I wrote, called Soothe (Yourself), took us about three hours to make. Then my sister (our bassist and drummer's girlfriend) came over the next day and she looked at my lyrics, took them to the side, and practically rewrote the song.
Not even practically. She did.
I got a little annoyed.
But good luck-the girl I pissed off calmed down. Yay…
It's still working, but the nib is so worn out at this point that I have to hold it vertical to get it to draw a line. Which means I pretty much either loose all control over the line (and it took me YEARS to get decent at tablet drawing) or I have to grip it so hard that after half hour I start getting sore spots and blisters.
But it appears thta despite Wacom never offering spare nibs for Volito2 tablets (and them being discontinued and not offering any replacement pens either), you can actually pull out the nib and replace it. At least that's what web tells me. And it's the same standard of nibs used in all Wacom tablets.
So it looks like I'll be pencilling only for the next few weeks until I can scrape some pocket change to order some nibs, heh.
Still, over 400 drawings (either inked or colored or both and ranging from a single illustration to a comic book page) over the course of about 5 years? Taht's a not that bad result for a tiny piece of plastic :D
-You can get individual nobs from Ebay at $10 US and $2.50 US shipping. HIGHLY overpriced, but convenient and they take ages to wear out anyway,
Yup, in my experience, any Wacom nib works with any pen… But any pen doesn't work with any tablet >_<
I recall that when the nib on my big fave 12x12 Intuos was dying and I couldn't find the big bunch of replacements that originally came with it… I was wary of going through the hassle of ordering more from… where? Anyway, I'd just started teaching digital animation at the time and the students used Wacom tablets. Teachers were allowed to take them home, so I took one home, took out its nice new long nib and replaced it with my worn out short one :)
That nib lasted me ages! But next time I needed a new one I just bought replacements online. It wasn't so hard in the end. The only trouble is that they last so long (years) that by the time you need to change them, you have no idea what happened to the replacements! This time i've stuck them inside my desk drawer with tape. My Cintiq goes through its nib even slower though because there's even less wear on the surface. ——————
WOW! I have actually FINISHED another page of Pinky TA! You better believe I'll mention that in the Quackcast baby! I'll load it up to go live on Wednesday, which is my traditional update day. What an amazing page! Such detail, such artistic perfection! God, it's awesome, I even had to look up extra reference to draw a jezail. …and a donkey.
very, i mean, when i chopped off her arms, i asked her not to bleed everywhere, but she started screaming, and i lost control of the car, and ended up doing donuts until i was 100 feet out in a cornfield and couldn't do donuts no more.
then people tried to push me out, but that just shredded my cv joint boot. they should have tried to pull me out from the beginning.
