I don't know how much I have lost, at present I cannot check the status of the hard drive but my external hard drive doesn't want to work with my wives laptop.

I don't have any other form of back up so I'm a bit concerned, although I think there is a good chance my hard drive is okay as I think the problem is the motherboard.

Sorry to hear. Hopefully it is the mobo, in which case your hard drive will be perfectly fine when transferred to a new computer. However, if when you start up and hear a whirring/clicking/grinding sound, that might be bad news…

And to contribute something to the topic, here in the US, there was a recent shooting in AZ. The event is tragic, but everyone is jumping to conclusions claiming there were political motivations behind it. That's just because a federal judge was among the people killed. Seriously? So the other five people are just unfortunate victims because the whole reason for killing people was a political motivation? Political motivation doesn't always equal crazy. Americans can be very blind sometimes.

Seriously that thing is awesome, I'm already fantasizing about taking it on dates…oooo i'll get a date this year.

BUT i am probably jinxing it *knocks on wood*. I shall continue to be a realistic rita(who's bordering on negative nancy).

Have you seen this guy's Youtube channel? Every video he's posted is basically a political manifesto, and he's a sucky filmmaker too. Considering what passes for videos on Youtube, that's saying something.

It wasn't just a judge that got shot at that event either: it was a political event hosted by a very controversial congresswoman. The whole thing was nothing but a politically motivated attack.

So with my settlement secure I can start to look into some longer-term stuff that I've been wanting…. my old car is good and reliable, but is costing me a lot in gas and whatever, and it's 11 years old and starting to leak oil a bit (can't justify the cost of finding/fixing it). I want to get a used hybrid, Civic preferably, or at least something smaller and cheaper to drive. I've been looking forward to this for a while now, but now that I CAN do it, it all just seems like too much work. Talking to banks, talking to dealerships (I'd want to get a hybrid from a dealer). Ugh. I haven't had to buy a car like that in 12 years or so, and I messed it up the first time. I can't really afford to get a bad deal this time or mess up with the loan again. It's likely no one near me even has used hyrbids in stock…

My brother has looked it over and it seems the problem is the motherboard… hopefully the CPU is intact as getting a new mobo isn't too expensive but the both adds up a little more than ideal and might mean it has to wait a couple of weeks. Damn that overspending at christmas.

Yeah, I left it a little ambiguous because I mentioned that before they released his documents. It just bothers me to see everyone immediately start talking about politics when something like this happens. It happens quite often in the US.

Even if the culprit is acting out of "political motivations," he's just delusional about the government. No party affiliations, no acts against a specific partisan, just his own, crazy beliefs. It had nothing to do with current events, and that's what everyone is screaming about.

Shit I was wondering why I didn't have any energy lately; I started drinking soda again. Alright no more of that.

I want to get an editor for this comic too. I think it's pretty good compared to my last two but my grammar and dialog isn't that great. I'm not even sure where to find one or if they're gonna charge -.-

I've been reading about anarchists from the late 19th-early 20th Centuries and this guy fits the mold. It's not uniquely American because fanatics come in all nationalities. Read the recent news from Pakistan about another political murder?

If anything this guy is like the one who shot McKinley or Garfield or any number of other political assassinations from 1890-1914.

—wildebeasts who wish to left the fuck alone—

Got stuck at work again and everyone was playing bother the security guard. You know when a parking lot is snow covered I don't care who has parked in your spot. How can you tell?

But I did lots of work on future comics.

Good point. I'd be more apt to link it to something like that as well.

I don't think so. Anarchy is a real political ideology, from what we know of this doofus he's just a nut.

From his rantings, silliness and history it seems he was always a very, very malleable sort of fool. More likely than not the heated, hyperbolic, adversarial nature of media coverage over political events and personalities has had a small but contributory role in further warping this weak, pathetic individual.

Should political and media figures who were part of that circus share blame? Partly, yes. They're egging people on to crazy behaviour, distorting reality constantly, it does have consequences, there are breaking points. But they didn't pull the trigger.

I'll get to the gym, be halfway thru my workout when they announce that it is unsafe to drive into work, and send us home (no option to stay)

He's the kind of guy who performed the action that the anarchist ideologues called for. It's documented case after case. He fits Leon Czolgosz as well as so many other assassins.

Libertarians too… But really, Anarchy in general doesn't encourage assassinations. In the 19th Century a lot of "outrages" were blamed on "anarchists" when in reality many of those were actually performed by other small political and labour movements. Leon Czolgosz is a prime example. It's just that once upon a time "Anarchy" was a convenient umbrella term, much Like "Islam" is today. We can conveniently ignore all the regional, political and cultural problems that drive the ideologies of individual groups and simply label them all as "Muslim terrorists".

Computer is in the repair shop… fingers crossed the HDD is okay and the cost isn't too high. If the HDD is knackered Malefic and Underbelly are going to be on extended hiatus or go to traditional art for a while. Don't think I will go down that route.

On the plus side I have done some excellent panels for Web Comic Death Match. I'm building up a few pages ready to colour when my computer is fixed.

I really should have backed up my stuff more recently, I kept putting it off and almost none of my 3D stuff is backed up.

You live you learn, well unless you're an idiot like me.

I know I sound like a total dick (and I AM one), but the way it's always been in my experience is that the real experts either work for themselves or get jobs in a big firm somewhere. The guys working in repair shops have the same level of knowledge as the average guy on the street who has the internet as a resource.

OK, enough useless life advice ranting crap. What you need to do with hard drives is get an enclosure and just put it in. Then hook it up to any PC and see if there's anything on it.
It's as simple as that, and it's a lot cheaper than having some pimple-monkey um and ah over it for a couple of days. All you need to do is make sure it has the right sort of connection for your hard drive- IDE or (aka PATA) SATA. Those are the most common.
If it doesn't work then you've either hooked it up wrong or it IS broken you need to go to a data retrieval specialist and spend a LOT to get the info recovered. If it does work and the info is gibberish or says there's nothing there, you'll need a data retrieval program to reassemble your info into a readable state. In any case repair shops generally can't help you with any of that.

Yeah the repair shop thing is dubious for the most part, but I used the term loosely. it's a well established local firm who I have used before and have always been really good. Just heard from them and it was the motherboard. HDD is fine and I just requested a superior motherboard and case to give me more options for upgrading. Cost isn't too bad either.

BTW, Frankkerr wanted me to tell everybody that he's not posting on DD anymore. He was spotted by a talent agency a couple of weeks ago and on Friday he finally scored a job as a catwalk model in Milan.
Congrats to Frankkerr!

It's almost surreal having that shooting happen in my own state…idk I feel almost detached from it, like that stuff only happens in the corn and cousin sex states. They're already calling it the 'tuscon massacre'.

It's so sad for that little girl and all those people, sad that guy is probably going to be locked in a padded cell breathing up perfectly good air because a lawyer wants fame. /is a debbie downer :[

There are so many funny moments in that movie (the girl with the mashed potato cheeks singing about heaven – what is that if not funny)! That, and I keep a box of sweaters under the bed. I can't pull it out without thinking of Eraserhead.

This shooting is particularly sad because it sounds like a lot of people knew he was dangerous and the only preventative I heard about is that they wouldn't let him enroll at the college.
