This is weird…

I cleaned out my coffee maker using white vinegar and now my coffee tastes great! Almost as if from a cafe. I usually use that clear vinegar to clean the thing but the coffee kinda tastes bland. Oh, well… I guess from now on I'll just use the white vinegar. I wish the lime content in the water wasn't so much or I wouldn't have to keep doing this…

(I love the knife pic BTW)

:)
Yes, yes, I know about dull and jagged blades etc. But I also know about very sharp ones too. Scraping a very sharp blade across a surface is not in any way the same thing as slicing through a surface. There're very different physics involved.

And in the case of human skin, especially that on the face, the surface is not perfectly smooth, so any sort of a blade being scraped over that surface is going to affect different areas more than others. And the sharper that blade, the more the effects.

-And there are more variables in the equation: A modern razor has multiple blades, this means that the pressure applied to the surface is distributed across all of them. So, if you're used to a multi-bladed razor, you'll naturally be applying the same amount of pressure when using an old fashioned single bladed razor… That pressure isn't distributed though, so the shave will feel very different. Getting used to different tools takes time.

So Ner! :P

^__^

Ally Haert was spot on - you have to factor in the layer of soapy water though. Providing the razor travels in the same direction as the skin's scales, that layer should allow the sharp blade to glide effortlessly over the skin, catching only on the hairs to be removed. There should definitely be no scraping involved! Experts recommend short, arking strokes, rather than a long dragging action.

Good point about the multi blades. Those things are designed to make it very hard to cut yourself and consequently, nigh on impossible to get a proper shave. The safety razor requires almost no pressure by comparison, unless you're looking for more of a flayed skin effect. D:

My grandfather used a cutthroat razor in ice cold water but then he survived the trenches - twice - so the prospect of losing an ear probably didn't cut much ice with him.

Congratulations Genejoke - impressive output.

@skool, I kinda felt the same as Genejoke, that I'd be telling people to do stuff that is overwhelmingly obvious. But I'll PQ some ideas, it looks like you haven't got anything apart from what Ally Haert has submitted.

Oh and I love this awesome conversation we're having about shaving guys hahaha.

Pfffff, women…alls ya'll. I dry shave. 2 dollar bic razors. saves me $1.19 USD every 6 months or so. hurts like a female dog, to learn that the blade's gone dull.

Picture somewhat related to the current conversation about shaving:

that's happened to me, except, not on my face, because I don't shave my face, because I'm a chick and don't have that abliity to grow facial hair (disappointingly). I was referring to shaving my legs. Speaking of which, I'm apparently impervious to the razor blade, my skin must be made of iron, because I have never ever cut myself shaving and I don't know others acheieve it.

I think I might have crossed a line with this post, OH WELL. *SEND*

My coffee maker got clogged the other month so my gf cleaned it out with white vinegar as well. Unfortunately, she didn't fully clean out the vinegar so much next cup was particularly foul… it reacted with the coffee after a while and became a rabid looking foam. I dumped it outside and it left a stain in the sidewalk for 3 weeks, persevering even through some rainstorms.

Hope you don't have a charcoal filter in there. Is it a Keurig?

Do you mean distilled? I've tried using distilled for cleaning things and it doesn't seem to have as much "kick" as white.

I caught my husband trying to use cider vinegar for cleaning the coffee maker once. He claimed that he thought it would make for more flavorful coffee. I think it's because we only had that and balsamic in the house and he didn't want to go to the store.

Oh boy, we had the most obnoxious customer in our store today.

She was looking for (Brand A) wet food, which we don't have. Her response to me telling her this: "Really. You usually do so I would be very surprised if that was the case."
She then points out that it's "right behind me" and starts taking cans of a totally different food. So I said "Oh, (Brand B )." Very snottily, she tells me "(Brand B ) IS (Brand A)." - seriously, she told me this as if I was retarded for not knowing.

Uh, except it's not. Once upon a time they were one food, but were bought out and separated over a year ago. (Brand A) is now an entirely separate food. Neither have the other's name on their labels, and I have never heard anyone refer to one as the other. But thanks for putting me down because your information is out-of-date. >: (

She also got mad at my co-worker. This woman breeds a specific kind of cats, and my coworker remarked that she had heard that they don't shed. "No. That's a myth." My coworker asked if they were hypo-allergenic, because she had heard that too. "No, that's not true. I JUST SAID that." I tried to change the subject and say "They're beautiful cats," but she just said "Yes, well," and went on a big long rant about how they're not hypoallergenic.

Yeesh. Sometimes you meet people who speak down to retail employees, but this lady just seemed like she wanted to speak down to everyone.

Ewww… I run the vinegar twice through the coffee maker, then I run three full decanters of water through it. How much water did she use?

My water filter is from G.E.. Not sure if it's a charcoal filter though.

I should try and see what kind of taste apple cider vinegar adds to the coffee. Not sure how that flavor sticks itself in the coffee maker. One time I tried using that white powder stuff the local KMart sells to clean the thing. It only made things worse… Yep… it's better to clean the coffee maker with a $2 bottle of vinegar rather than that $4 bottle of whatever that white powder was…

I actually had this conversation with a rather charming lady some years ago. After a little research, we concluded that her leg was considerably smoother than my face. I think those findings can probably be applied in most cases.

Legs are smoother than faces, blades glide over them much easier. Also the hair is usually much softer and easier to cut through.

So tired today… we had two tornados last night and quite a bit of damage from lightning around town. Six thousand lightning strikes within 30 minutes ya'll, it broke some records! Not ready for tornado season yet, I was still enjoying my winter. :(

You can have our winter, we're done with it here, i'm ready for summer.
———-

I made a trip to the ER. it's never normal when your urine is actually blood. everything came back normal, and after they threw an IV in, my urine is clear. i get a day off tho, and maybe tomorrow!

my arms are pincushions now cause the nurse couldn't hit the veins.

I feel your pain. When I was going in to the hospital to have my last baby, I was hyperventillating over the IV. The nurse gave me a weird look and asked "You realize you're about to have a kid, right?". She just couldn't understand why the scariest part was the needles. T__T

Arkansas here… yeah… the tornadoes sucked (or did they blow?).

Anyway, had a lot of people crammed into my stone house while it was going down. I guess one just missed us here. Another round going down tonight about the same time though -_-

My 2 least favorite seasons in Arkansas. Spring (tornadoes + heat), and Summer (By god the heat + humidity)

Is it fall or winter again yet? :(

Least favorite season is easily summer (heat + humidity + hurricanes - cool nights = living hell).

I'm up here in nebraska. we live inside some sort of bowl. we get all the prettiness of storms (cloud formation, great lighting strikes cool rain) with almost none of the dangers. the storms either develop over head, and get worse in iowa, or they split to the north and south and do a lot of damage there. lots of tornado warnings, but they always hit around the area.

i'm not jealous of hurricanes at all. tho i havent been in one since katrina/rita.

wow… spent the past hour watching youtube videos of the Parodius video game shooters. All I can say in my mind while watching these things is "what in the heck were the game designers/programmers on?!?"… So what's it got?

the traditional spaceship protagonist
A penguin, octopus, a blob, and even a SUNFISH protagonist!
Weird creatures as bosses, including a penguin with a toilet on its head, a tanuki (which looks like a racoon) with a HUGE set of "kahones" (which you can shoot, but that makes things worse for you), a giant pirate kitty boss, a puffer fish that expands when you shoot it… a dancing panda with a duck on its head…
Giant women as bosses as well, especially one giant showgirl you can't hurt and you have to avoid being stepped on, and another in the final stage of one game you don't actually fight…. she actually kills the antagonist by rolling over him and smooshing him with her rear end…
Another protagonist flyer… a woman clad in a Playboy bunny style outfit riding an actual torpedo (get your minds out of the gutter)

Makes me wonder what a parody shooter based on Drunkduck characters would be like…

someone's putting Folger's flavor crystals in my coffee again…

Its thefirst day back at school after the Easter break, and there are all these depressed messages from my friends saying: "Ew school tomorrow :(" I'm trying not to laugh menically because I'm not going to school and going to go get fish and chips because I'm cool like that. Awwww yyyyeeaaaahhhh!

:/I'm so glad I don't have tornadoes where I live, the most we get are dust devils and maybe once in a blue moon a water spout that goes haywire and may do some damage to the beach 'burbs. Come to think of it, Australia only really has the extreme flood, fire and hurricane every so often, though out of the three, I fear bush fires the most.

Bush fires chew you up and spit you out as a charred skeleton and keep on truckin', old school.

Hurricanes are by far the worst for me. During Rita it was four weeks of no power and even longer with no running water, all the while it was in the 90's (Fareheight). Whole towns went missing during that storm. In fact, everything south of Hackberry was gone. Trees, buildings, bayou…. Acres and acres of nothing but mud.

And just a few years ago there was Gustav and Ike back to back. Those two storms wiped Galveston off the map. During Ike (I think) the Gulf of Mexico rose 18 feet. That's storm surge, not tidal waves. That means that Gulf of Mexico rose 18 feet for three days straight. I remember driving to the post office after the storm and there were crabbing traps hanging from the power lines. It was surreal.

Storms around this area of the country never used to be this bad, but it seems like they're getting worse every year. :(

I appreciate your description. I know the Gulf Coast gets "hit", but there's nothing like a first hand account to "see" it.

I don't know how you stay — I hope there's a lot of good to compensate for that.

New owner finally called me and not only do I get to keep my job, but she asked if I want more hours so I might not have to find a new job for a while. Woohoo! Now I just have to see who of the other girls she keeps on. :\

Less happily, I just watched an episode of the Twilight Zone and now I feel like there are lions everywhere.
I thought it was just going to be some silly special effects but they had a real freaking lion. I won't give any more away in case there are other fans, but GAH!

I'm on the fence. And it's not like we haven't talked about moving away…

It's not so bad the further you get away from the Gulf, but I live fairly close to the beach in a heavily populated area of Louisiana. When storms come, it's a war zone. You see people driving around in the back of pick-up trucks and carrying shotguns, going from house to house and raiding the places that people have evacuated. And it's not just hurricanes either! We have tornados, six breeds of deadly snakes, three breeds of deadly spiders, more misquitos than you could shake a can of bug spray at, alligators and (of course) rednecks.

There have been times we've thought about leaving, but we have elderly family who won't move away with us. Basically, we're the only ones in the family left to care for our grandparents. If we moved away, who would help them during tornados and hurricanes?

It's not all bad though, not by any means. Did you know that Louisiana is home to nearly %70 of all the world's crawdads? Not to mention the crabs you can catch down here. And the catfish! Oh lawd, the catfish. They just don't do food anywhere like they do in Louisiana. And where else would I buy King Cake and join a Krewe and party for Mardi Gras? Lot's of people here are bilingual (le Français Acadien), unlike much of the rest of the continental U.S. And there's always that good ol' muddy river…. There's just no place like home, I guess. :)
