Just rose up from the dead like last week, had to find my way back home, avoiding legions of demonic vampire warriors and those who are for some reason completely against zombies.
What have YOU guys done lately?
…
I went hunting for the Easter Bunny, but somehow he eluded me again! And I accidentally shot down a sleigh containing a fat old guy and being pulled by flying reindeer…
In all seriousness, I can't sleep. It's way too hot right now and my day off too. I go outside right now and I'll start feeling funny due to the increased blood pressure brought on by the Sun.
Oh, well… I guess I'll go back to playing R-Type Final. Owing that game for all this time and I've only unlocked half of the ships in the game. Time to see how well I can use The Force after all this time not playing the thing…
I really need better lighting in my room…it's only 8:30 so I want to spend the next two hours drawing, but it's too dark for me to tell colours apart properly(last time I tried I accidentally used peach instead of yellow and green instead of grey). All I have is a little desk light that's older than me.

On the brighter side(ha), I got SO MUCH CANDY. A ton of mini eggs, two chocolate bunnies, a giant toblerone, and of course a cream egg. : ) Also lots of cool little gifts, like Shakespearean insult gumballs. ("Thy wit's as thick as a Tewkesbury mustard." )
Is it just me or are there tons of characters in the webcomic community that should be one eyed? I browsed through some comics today and came across not one, not two, but five characters with large, hideous scars across one of their eyes. It seems to me there's quite a few near-misses with those eyes. Statistically speaking, shouldn't at least one of those five characters lost the eye or something? It's pretty darn fishy that all five of them came out the other side of the fight with only a badass, well placed scar to show for it.
Just sayin'.
*holds up hand* Guilty as charged, a character in my comic does indeed have a scar across his eye, not only for his noted badassery but also for awesome backstory. Though, in his defence, he has about fifty scars depending on which area of flesh you look at, with stories ranging from his mouth being sewn shut for funzies, being attacked by an arch nemesis in the form of a seal, and generally being tortured by various other characters.
Ladies love dem scars bro, makes 'em more manly.

omg Hippie Van, that Embarrassed Zebra is the absolute shizz! :D AND ITS PINK.

I'm currently suffering from the cold on this here ANZAC day/Easter Monday, and am very upset because I can't eat chocolate and Easter is all about the Chocolate to me. :( OH and I just burnt my lunch because I was saying to myself: "I will post just a few more responses on these very interesting threads, what ho what fun!"
Can I whine in a very general way about webcomics? This goes mostly for SmackJeeves, the other webcomic host, but here we go: there are some comics and manga that only have a few pages and haven't updated in years and clearly have no hope of being updated anytime soon - BUT THEY STILL HAVE FANS. More fans than MY manga, which has been dutifully updated (after an admittedly long hiatus) for the last two weeks now.
Crazy weather - I never had a barbeque in April before. Spare ribs, lamb chops, chicken thighs, burgers, porkers, kebabs, I cooked the lot, drunk as a lord. Sadly no wildebeest.
It's nuts isnt it, it's hotter in the south of england than in the south of spain. WTF?
It's april and I've already spent more time on the beach than the whole of last year.

'Tis just the way of things, I'm a fan of several comics that I know won't update… ever again. But that's because I'm a loyal retard. Don't let it upset you though, these things take time, the more you post, the more your comic will be noticed and hey-presto, the more fans you'll get. :D
look like this when used properly.
I don't pay for TV so i don't have BBC america. i have to wait to procure it thru other means.
Oh ok. I've edited it so other people wont be :( sorry. umm and also could you delete or edit the post you quoted me in because people can see it there.?

Also many of those fans may not be active users anymore. Don't worry your comic will gain momentum, it may just need more pushing.
I don't know if you're talking about X meets Y but at only 4 pages there isn't a lot to be a fan off. That sounds bad, sorry. What I mean is there isn't much to get into yet. The art is pretty good though.
Wow… I was playing R-Type Final when my friend tells me about a ship with what he says is a "Sexy Force". I have a major problem with this thing… It's not freaking sexy at all. In fact, it looks like a orange orb tentacle monster that homes in in your targets… I bet no women will ever get near the pilot of that ship (which by the way looks kinda phallic and shoots some very deady goop as its "Wave Cannon")…
I ran into this old girl that I used to be friends with a few years back. I dunno, the friendship was pretty decent; I can't say we were literally picking roses with one another, but we'd have interesting conversations. I can't say I quite liked her much.
She recently found out about me and my stuff here, and I dunno whether she's trying DD out to explore some more, or she's riding off of my coat-tails (almost feels that way, but I could be just paranoid). I dunno, man. With the stuff she draws, and the things she writes, her stuff is better suited to fan-fiction.net and deviantArt. She handles critique and feedback like someone was beating her with the ugly stick; it's hard to actually to make suggestions without her flaring up. One of her blogs labeled an innocent review as a troll, despite said 'troll' being pretty honest in every single pin-prick discussing her story.
The funny thing is, someone who works at a relatively small but modest animation studio talked to me a week ago or two, and is showing me in a quick crash course on character modeling. I handled it very well, I'd imagine, and we're hitting it off good.
I recently sent her a comment saying that she's welcome to experiment. DD's a great place to host comics, and I commend her for doing so. On the other hand, I don't really want to be associated with her notoriety or world. I can only supply what positive constructive criticism I can, as we've known each other for maybe less than a year, so maybe - just maybe - she'll put that into knowledge and build off of that… but I don't think I have the patience, should it happen, to find myself winding up on one of her blogs saying, "HE HATES ME, WAUGH. LET'S GO MESS WITH'IM."
She can start by not making her comics the size of a flatscreen monitor - 2500x2500 - and, depending on her intent, introduce to her characters gradually. 'Cause to be fair, I have no idea what it's about other than every introduction being "Stay put for the next one!"
Ow. So I took Ironscarf's advice from a while ago- I shaved with foam I'd mixed up from soap with a shaving brush and an old fashioned safety razor (even the blades were antique, still in their original wrapping). Now my face stings!!!!! Maybe I just left it too long to shave? At least the old style safety razor doesn't get all clogged up and useless with bristles… Maybe I need to try hotter water?

Illiminate the factor of shaving all together, perhaps, and just grow a mighty beard and chops.

:( still haven't done any work on that Snowleopard Picture I posted here a few days ago, gaaah I'm just not motivated. Plus I've got comics to draw and I kind of running a little bit late.
and I just found out my friend went and got the same haircut as me… and pulls it off much better than me, and is now currently making me feel rather down trodden. Particularly when she loads her photo on facebook and it has something like fifty comments while my photo has… three. Arggggggghhhhhhh
Lovely weekend but with the weather change Sunday came The Migraine from Heck! When I got home I slept for 14 hours. However, I woke up every four or so all sweaty with the covers everywhere after thrashing around during a nasty ass dream. Not nightmares just messed up dream situations that frustrate the hell out of me. Everything devolves into one big "can't". Can't find that, can't do this, this can't work. The biggest one is the being totally unable to find stuff. Or even improvise.
On the good side I managed to do 12 pages of the comic at work. This could mean I'm updated through June or I do a barrage of page a day to finish the run.
You know I originally spelled managed as mangaed. Hope that isn't some artistic Freudian slip.
-I'm done with beards for a while. You still have to shave when you have one anyway, unless you wanna look like a Taliban… Sooo, best to go the whole way. Takes off about 10 years!
I worked out why the new/antique razor killed so much: very, very, very sharp. Scraped the skin on my face raw. ugh! Deadly. ————–
Poor Bravo! I know how you feel. The other week I had a severe migraine. I had to be taken to the doctor. Gave me an injection in my right buttock to stop me vomiting. I have NEVER liked needles. The thing is, they just get worse as I get older… Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and see my own doc about them, get preventative medication etc. It's got to the point where I can't really mange them like I used to anymore.

That couldn't be caused by a blade being too sharp - it's what happens when a blade starts to go dull. Not dull so's you'd be able to tell the difference, but your face pays the price. I used some blades that were about five years old some months ago and ended up with a bad case of teenage acne. Keep the antique blades for the display cabinet and get some shiny new ones!
Hey turns out I'm not THAT bad at realism! Hah, that's great. People say if you learn realism then you'll get better all around, so…The fact I can draw that alright already means…I should already be better all around? Wait. I'm confused…No wait…
….Uh, no. Forget it. I'll figure this out another day.
Really? Soooo… if a blade is extremely sharp then it won't shave the top layer of skin? This doesn't make sense to me.
Think of it this way. Which would hurt more? Being decapitated quickly by a sharp as hell sword, or being smacked in the face with a rusty old sledgehammer? Duh.
[EDIT] Because Bowie knives are infinantly cooler than razors during demonstrations.

Let's pretend I didn't just draw this with a ball-mouse:
(And while we're at it, let's pretend those close ups are very enlarged shots)
The theory goes: A sharper blade will make a cleaner cut and a cleaner cut will hurt less. A dull knife has a tendancy to "tear" and "rip" while cutting. A sharp blade makes a sharp cut.
A dull razor blade will have infinitesimally small knicks along the length of the blade that, when dragged across your face while shaving, could rip and tear at your flesh. A sharp blade is much less likely to hurt you!
Unless of course it's not your blade at all. It could always be user error, you know. ;-)
:) Yes, yes, I know about dull and jagged blades etc. But I also know about very sharp ones too. Scraping a very sharp blade across a surface is not in any way the same thing as slicing through a surface. There're very different physics involved.
And in the case of human skin, especially that on the face, the surface is not perfectly smooth, so any sort of a blade being scraped over that surface is going to affect different areas more than others. And the sharper that blade, the more the effects.
-And there are more variables in the equation: A modern razor has multiple blades, this means that the pressure applied to the surface is distributed across all of them. So, if you're used to a multi-bladed razor, you'll naturally be applying the same amount of pressure when using an old fashioned single bladed razor… That pressure isn't distributed though, so the shave will feel very different. Getting used to different tools takes time.
So Ner! :P

Hey guys, we could still use some submissions for Quackcast 25: Artist Workshop! The theme of this show is going to be exercises or activities that people can do to improve some element of their artwork. For example, beyond just "practice faces" to specific suggested activities, like "try drawing a human face that looks like a bird, a dog, etc." Think of it perhaps like an art class or creative intervention. Submissions due: Before Thursday, April 28 more info
They don't have to be too formal, just ideas or maybe approaches to practicing a certain thing. Like it's one thing to say "practice hands" and another thing to suggest some ways to do that, like "try drawing hands doing sign language letters" or something. Ally Heart sent a great recording of 3 things she's done to improve, with a bunch of examples.
And they don't have to be recordings, you can just PQ me a bunch of ideas if you want. :]
————— my first wildebeest ever
Day 5 of my 11-day holiday and I finally feel like sitting down and getting something productive done! After the day-1 productiveness of cleaning my whole house and doing a ton of yard work. I'm pacing myself now. :]
ASDA finally realized that I wasn't going to buy Dragon Age 2 unless it was £22 (it's been £40 since release) and obliged me with a sale today. Good ol' asda, just in time for my holidays. I'm not expecting great things so hopefully I won't be too disappointed.
@Genejoke: are you telling Oz to Man up or to Woman up? just how tough do you want him to be :) btw: mega congrats on the weight loss - but it's Monday - when do your weeks begin?
@Oz: instead of metal to a face, maybe it helps to think of a fingernail to nylons (you know, since I come from a Womaned-up perspective).
If the nail is smooth, it doesn't matter what angle you run across the nylons, it won't snag. But if there's one rough spot on the nail, it's almost impossible to find an angle where it won't catch the nylon.
— drowsy wildebeests
I just saw your post skool: welcome to the wildebeest herd (did you know that a group of gnus is an "implausibility"?)
I will be posting more defined guidelines re: radio script submissions soon, but sorry I can't contribute to Quackcast 25.
Oh yeah, and people are always welcome to submit recordings/blurbs about their community projects, contests, etc. too. No one has really done that in a while, I miss them!
@ayesinback Usually sunday but I started the diet last monday so seven days on and it monday. It's supposed to be one of these diet one week in four things but the effect it has had means I will incorporate much of it into my basic eating habits. Had a craving for pizza all week so had it tonight. I ate too much and feel bloated, but still ate less of it than I would have just over a week ago. Also I was telling oz to man up, if a mere woman can cope with waxing and giving birth then a man has no business complaining about a few nicks when shaving. A real man doesn't even complain when he cuts his own throat… possibly due to not beig able to but hey ho.
@Skool, I had been planning to do a recording but it all sounded so obvious that it would be like telling people how to suck eggs.
Obviously the mere woman stuff was a joke, I wouldn't point it out but someone will probably take it the wrong way. That said there are a lot of women folk on DD, more than I would have imagined a year back. I used to assume that most webcomic creators were men, how wrong I was.
Speaking of the year thing. I've been doing webcomics for just over a year now, that means Malefic is over a year old. I never expected that. I started it as a practice run and never expected it to go far. Somewhere along the line I started to take it more seriously. One year and 219 pages so far, not to mention loads on the side. Damn this hobby is addictive.
