I'm trying to put together a second guest for the 'conventions' quackcast (we've already got MrRiot back) but I'm a bit stumped as to who might make a really good guest. We can already talk about merch and marketing yourself but I think what we might be missing is other ways people could participate/raise their profile too, like being a guest, or doing one of the presentations or something. I'm really not familiar with who on DD might have done a bunch of cons. Any ideas people? I need to line someone up in the next couple of days.

Sorry Skool, wish I could help, but I have even less knowledge of anyone on DD going to cons frequently, which actually isn't helpful at all in the slightest.

——

I try to give my chips to the disabled seagulls at the beach, except half the time they aren't disabled, they just act it and con you into giving them a free meal, like some kind of crafty hobo. A crafty hobo who is very good at pretending he only has one leg so you throw food at him, the craftiest sort of hobo.

They must get together and plan this or something, in secret disabled seagull conferences, where they discuss tactis for obtaining chips from various wealthy strangers who are trying to eat various cooked potato snacks in peace…

ugh… finally woke up after a very bad day… and it's 10PM right now. I guess I should wait 'til the crack of dawn to take care of a problem that nearly cost me my life… Yep. Right when I'm slowing down behind a truck as the light turns red, my rear brakes fail. Panic ensues when you suddenly feel the firmness of your brake pedal give way. Luckily my front brakes still work and while I could go out again right now I'd rather not take the risk. Fortunately it was payday so I went out and bought the brake cylinder repair kit (for the wheel) appropriate for my vehicle. Installing it isn't hard. Removing the tire and hub cover will not be THAT easy though. Lots of physical labor involved in that one. Then I have to bleed the brake system to take out any air that may have gotten into the system (because if I don't the brakes will feel very mushy for a long while and you don't get enough brake power from that).

eh… I can probably do some short distance driving. Especially now since the roads aren't very crowded, so I can afford to go slow and steady and use gear assisted braking to ensure my safety. Just can't do too much of it though since there's a risk of going out of control even at slow speed while only one set of my brakes are working (and the car jerks to one side when I do brake) :)

Oh… is there anyone out there who's used Digipro drawing tablets? I found one. It's pretty cheap compared to the Wacoms I've also found. How good are those tables for you? Only thing that irks me about them is that the pen requires batteries. I guess I'm too used to the Wacom tablet I had… when it was working…

@Lonne ask about it in the tips and tricks forum, there've been few enquiries like that.

____
So it's pretty cold and I'm going to bed early cause I feel lile shit… must be getting sick. Anyway, I needed an old t-shirt for bed, but since I threw out all my old crappy stuff I had to look really hard. It turns out that most of my old t-shirts that I used to wear a lot were all made by surf companies, they're all covered in surf slogans… that was all I used to find that fit me and look good, but I never realised they were ALL surf things!

No wonder people used to think I was a surfer dude! I just thought it had to do with the long blonde hair and skinny build, couldn't think of anything else- with me being scared of big waves and all I found it a little strange.

Yeah, I know you mentioned them before but none of those guys have logged in since Oct-Dec of last year and none of them have any comics currently running here. Since we've had a couple people lately who are less prominent on DD than they used to be, I'd kinda like to get someone who participates on the site a little more for this one. :]

-Looks out the window-

The ash cloud cometh.

…gonna be the last time I see a blue sky for the next day or two, depending on wind and volcanic activity.

*jumps outside*

Our sky has been gray since Sunday, but fortunately it's been windy below the cloud line so it hasn't come over my town… but you can't rely on the weather around here :/

Well that's just great.

Up to now, that had been a fiercely guarded family recipe.

is the potato salad next?

For over a week, it's been life in a terrarium. blah

Maybe you shouldn't have mentioned that… now EVERYONE knows it's a fiercely guarded family recipe. :)

Well… time to get to work. My brakes aren't going to fix themselves. I'll have to do it in the rain. While I am off from work today, I hae other places I need to go to… :)

Afternoon daiquiris, then nap, then work.

Did some light swimming. My shoulder hurt, so i did the back stroke. it was like unwinding my shoulder. it was amazing. but then my other shoulder began to hurt. I just can't win.

:/ well I just learnt there is no point I trying to help people. Also, I kept drifting in and out of sleep last night, and having odd dreams because of it, all revolving around my bedroom, and… computer games for some reason…

Ironic because this forum was discussing Lucid dreaming ony a few days ago.

Poor product. It looks just like normal rain clouds.

Ah but haven't you heard? One of the first steps towards achieving lucid dreaming is to realize that lucid dreaming is possible :þ

That totally would have been better. Especially since my daiquiri date stood me up.

Okay, coming back to the forums was the first step. Just reread my entire comic. So that was, uh, another step. Next I reckon I'm gonna draw and post my "I'm not dead" update. So see? I'm getting in gear to get back to the comic. No effin' way I'm gonna let a two year hiatus kill my baby.

@ convention stuff

I was at Wizard World with DD in 07. Met Creepy Carly, EEN, Amelius, Riot, Zac, and many other DDers (obviously since we were representing DD :P)

I've been to one local convention in AR. And been to 2 webcomic conventions in Texas.

WOAH. That is insane, frigheningly insane.

Yes, it is the idea of Lucid dreaming. Though th emoment I realised I was dreaming my mind must have collapsed and said: "ABORT MISSION, ABORT, ABORT!"

——-

I'm working on an art assignment regarding a "social/cultural" issue that I need to feel strongly about. I picked the general mistreatment of bears in Asia, but… I'm starting to wish I hadn't, I'm finding it very upsetting looking at and drawing images of beaten up Moon bears in bile farms and sloth bears part of the Indian dancing bear trade. I know I'm supposed to feel strongly about the issue, that's the whole point of the assignment, and I do, but this is just so… unspeakably cruel, but now I'm wondering if its too much.

Are folks wearing winter coats in this video because the ash is blocking out the warmth from the sun? Or do you just have chilly Mays?

Hrm. I'm sketching out my social commentary piece for my art class, and I don't think I can do it without showing boobs. I guess my art teacher will have to live with that…I'm not too worried about him, but it might be awkward to paint in front of a bunch of teenagers.

They're wearing windbreakers. It's not to shield themselves from the cold. They're protecting themselves from the ash. Trust me, you don't want that stuff in your underwear and hair. They're still gonna get some in those places but at least windbreakers are gonna limit their exposure to it.
