I grew up with people older than me. My brother was 13 years older and so was his entire group of friends, so I was 6 years old and hanging out with 19 year olds, haha. I never could get along with people exactly my age. I was either too behind or too far ahead in everything to relate to them (and I was always pretty much fad-resistant, so I really had nothing in common with anyone in my age group).

As it is right now I have friends whose age ranges from 16 to 40+ (I used to know a bunch of quite intelligent 13 year olds, but they all grew up by now as it was about five years ago).

As for the drunkduck forums themselves…. they're pretty cool (even if the system used for the forum itself is somewhat awkward or lacking at time) and so are most people posting here :D

No, I don't wanna give the wrong impression. I actually really enjoy interactin' with younger folk- it keeps me from turning into even more of an insufferable, old-timey grump. ;)

It's a point of view thing for me- kids who grew up in the aughts (that's them 00 years, for you non-old-timey folk) have a different perspective from those of us who grew up in the 80's or 90's; I mean, they never didn't have the internet, or spell check, or cell phones, you know? I guess it's just frustrating to feel like you don't have the same shared experiences or points of reference as anyone around you; almost like speaking a different cultural language. I'm sure younger folk have the same dissonance when dealin' with their seniors, eh?
I'm always shocked when people don't get a Monty Python quote that I just used. Meanwhile people my age or younger than me (and some older too) are shocked by my reluctance to get a cellphone.

Not that there isn't common ground- I think way too many of my peers are kinda stuck in this rut where they stop paying attention to what's going on- pop culture, new music, tech stuff- as soon as they graduate from college and enter into the "real world".
Yeah, I'm afraid to fall into that. I've always been tuned to the past but I kept on trying to explore new stuff, but recently I slowed down quite a lot. I hate cellphones, stopped following new VK bands, stopped grabbing new albums from bands that I liked in the 90s and most of the music I listen to these days appears to be inspired by the 80s (which is funny as I despised most of 80s stuff when I was a kid).

But I guess I don't have to worry about that too much. I like things that are different, and the only way to get something different is to look for something old and forgotten or totally new, so I'm still expanding :D

I should probably stop trying to talk for teens in this argument because I don't actually get along with people my own age. I usually feel like I'm having the same conversation I've had a million times when I try to talk to other teenagers.

Anyways, you know what I hate? Bands, especially lead singers, who don't even try to have any kind of sex appeal. They try to be different by being like "Oh, I'm a nerd and I wear a sweater vest in music videos but I can still be a musician!" But it's just kind of ew. Man, if you're a musician and you carry yourself the right way(and don't wear sweater vests) it's pretty darn easy to be sexy. Why would anyone not want to take advantage of that? It just seems like that's a part of music to me.

Ha. I hate cellphones, too. I hate that everyone I see, everywhere I go, is always on a damned cellphone. In their cars, walking down the street, in resturaunts, in stores while making purchases- it's rude! And I hate overhearing their conversations! Call 'em back or step outside, for Christ's sake! But I'm actually phobic of phones- I hate, hate, hate talking on them, and half the time I don't answer. I only got one in '05, when I was homeless after the hurricane and no one knew where I was/ how to contact me (my parents included). I've had the same one since- it's so bottom of the line, too. All it does is… call people. Imagine that. ;)

But it dies about half the time- apparently the lifespan of a phone is about 3 years. My Dad's tryin' to get me an iPhone (much like police scanners were last year, they're the current fad in my family- one person gets one and then I swear it's contagious!). But he doesn't have a lot of money, and I'd feel rotten if he got me something so expensive. There's just so many other things that I (and my folks) need more than a needlessly fancy phone.

I can't stand talking on the phone, either…my mobile is for texting. I only ever call my parents. And I always put away my phone if I'm with anyone. I find it so impolite if I'm with someone and they're texting someone else at the same time. It's like what, my company alone isn't enough to keep you interested?

Oh god, texting. It's like… like typing in slow motion! I could write a novel in the time it takes to type in a sentence on these things :P

I'll probably have to get a phone at some point. Seems every place these days requires that you leave them your number. Paypal, the online store where I buy comics, dentist/doctor… you have to put it on your job application too etc. But I need to find an option that gives me the cheapest bills (I won't call much, I just need the damned thing to put the number on whatever requires it).

I'm having some crazy ideas artwise recently. Right now if I had any money I'd rush to a store and buy stacks of paper, board, pencils, inks, pens, brushes, watercolors, other kinds of paint, colored pencils, wax crayons, markers, felt tip pens, ballpens, gelpens and everything else that's cheap and just go crazy on a short 52 page comic with each panel being a jumble of several different things, haha.

I wonder if anything comes out of that idea :P
I should just focus on finishing the damned script for Ravensrook, getting Din Krakatau in print and relaunching the whole deal as Amen City Chronicles.

My cellphone is a matter of convenience. I have a land line, but any call off campus is long distance. My parents aren't too up on technology, so it isn't like I can e-mail them. And we just purchases texting last month. Doubt my mom will use it and I only use it when my boyfriend's phone doesn't work. He lives in a dead zone where only texts can get through. (Strangely enough my phone works fine.)

You could just get a cell phone on a prepaid plan…that's cheap enough, it's just the phone will cost you full then. I think my phone cost like $50 from Virgin Mobile(they don't have activation fees and that crap) and then I'm pretty sure you can set it so you just pay for the minutes you use, 30 cents a minute…so if you're not going to be using it much, that wouldn't be too bad.

I discussed things with my parents some, and Dad has warmed up enough to humor my animal rescuing attempts. I got them to agree that she won't be taken to the pound tomorrow (which would mean if no one claimed her, she'd be put down in three days). I'm contacting a local rescue group tomorrow, and if they can't find a foster, my parents said I could foster her for a short time while we look for her former owner and/or a new one.

Three days?! Geez, that's pretty awful, my dog was at the humain society for over 6 months before we got him! I think he would normally have been put down but he was one of the sweetest dogs they had met, so they dragged it out, put him with foster families and such. I actually met a guy in the park once who had fostered my dog for a while. It was the oddest thing. That's so sad, though. I can't believe anyone would just abandon their pet like that. It's so dumb.

…I'm posting in this thread too much, aren't I?

This has been the best weekend I've had in a while. I must've really needed this.

I spent it all with my family (excluding my brother, who worked), so technically only my parents. But we sat outside for a while both days, because it's been nice out. We had grilled food both yesterday and today.

I actually got a bit of sun today. I penciled like, two or three pages, and just overall relaxed. It's been really nice. And I'm in a really good mood too.

I think I'm gonna pencil a few more pages, and then relax some more. Because tomorrow is school again *sigh*.

Why does this weekend have to end?

I wish I had that excuse not to work on my comic. >_>

Instead I spent all my time this weekend completing the next two pages worth of panels. Am I going to put together the pages?

Of course not. Besides I won't be able to do anything once the wife gets home except pay attention to she-who-must-be-obeyed, honey-bunny, sweetie-poopsy-wifie person. And I can't start anything because she'll be home very soon.

Teen-aged love or married life? Fantastic obsession or obsessive reality?

Gotta stop thinking so much. Keeps my mind off of not doing my comic. lol!

Not if I write the script for 52 pages only :D

…unless I pick up one of my longer ideas (got one planned for 200 pages, one for 300 pages and one for 666 pages, haha)

currently editing MAG-ISA script chapter 10 onwards.

The original script didn't have much action in it and it was plain straightforward. I put more action. Like the stuff that has struggling for the firearm and multiple-move fight sequences I used to do in my older comics.

Also slightly modifying it to add some sci-fi elements and discussion of what-the-hell-are-we-doing-here-in-this-universe-what-is-the-meaning-of-life-dammit!!!

It just extended the average chapter length to 25 pages.

So I figured it out, down to the minute, pretty much- I have 58 days to ink 32 pages (well, 30.5, plus the cover and intro page).

I don't think that'd be a problem normally, but I've got to drive all the way up to St. Louis (it's 24 hours or so, if I do it straight through) in about a week or so, to see my ailing grandmother. I think I'll be staying indeterminately, to help my mom take care of stuff. So I'm sure that mess is going to affect my ability to work. Not that the comic is more important than what little family I have left…

No, it's not. But I had to think really hard.

can't you ink while at your grandmother's house? (there, you don't have to make a choice.)

Urgh. I hate finals. I haven't actually been outside the same little room in two days now. I haven't seen the sun in that long either. Why did I agree to take the interior room without windows? I feel like such crap because of it. Either that or it's the acid from 6 pots of double strength coffee working it's magic on my body.

At least I didn't miss much. According to my roommate it's rained all weekend. Which accounts for why the place smells like him, his stale asian food and wet dog. Jeebus does that guy reek. I've tried everything I can think of, baking soda, febreeze, dryer sheets, you name it. I think he stopped bathing a couple weeks ago, and he keeps bringing stuff in that he drags out of dumpsters, like old sport coats. Normally, I have no problem with dumpster diving, but he doesn't wash the stuff.

Oh, it's not a choice of going or not- I'm going, one way or another. But with family there's always something to keep you from working- there's never good lighting or a proper place to draw in relatives' houses- ever notice that? ;)

Plus, I only see her every few years anymore, and it's quite possible that this will be the last visit, so I feel guilty for fixating on the comic stuff in light of that. Conceivably I could work after everyone's gone to bed, though.

I pretty much need to be doing a page a day (or at least 3 every 5 days or somethin') from here on out to get finished in time- which is 10-12 hours of work a day. *sweat*

He's in Poland I believe.

That doesn't matter, there are other good mobile providers there. :)
————

lba- try incense? It worn't get rid of this stink, but it'll cover it… a bit. Plus, if he's not washing his stuff, try accelerating the process. Leave a bit of flour or something on his smelly jackets and see if you can get some mould growing. That might make him see a need for washing…
————

Ah, I didn't get up till 12:30 today! On a Monday! I miss when that wasn't a luxury. Work again tomorrow. -_-
