I'll see your April, and raise you January, February, and March.

Man, this year was supposed to be better. I was even real positive and hopeful about it. Well, "positive" in that I'm speakin' relatively- it ain't like I'm the sunshine and rainbow type; more like the "doom-mongering catastrophist" type.

Eh, maybe y'all is right and the advent of May will bring better tidings, eh?
2009 was supposed to be better? The first day of it I knew it's going to suck. And almost everything that went well, got ruined a moment later.

Finished my webcomic and can get it to print? Great, except they dropped the "20$ free on first order" discount, thus I need to actually scrape money for the proof copy.

Met a great girl online with whom I get along wonderfully (and we share kinks and lots of interests)? Great, but she lives in Canada and there's no way I can afford to visit her anytime soon.

Got that nice job offer? Great, but the phone just broke so they can't call me back about some stuff thus I lose the opportunity AND two months later the sale of tv sets and monitors drops so much that they fire half of the company.

Not to mention I almost lost my flat and might be in the same situation again.

so yeah, that's 2009 so far. Economy's shit, weather is messed up, I'm still single (can't remember when was the last time I was NOT single), my right wrist is acting up when I type a lot, I can't "dance" my extra weight again cause my right ankle starts bitching after a week, I'm constantly out of money and some drunken/insane guy was babbling something at me in a menacing way when I was walking to the store this evening… :P

On the other hand,I got to stare (for couple of minutes) at the beautiful halfmoon that was perfectly visible during the rest of the trip to and back from the store :D

That almost levels it out, now if only I could find a suitcase of money I'd be all set :D

I dunno, man- and not disagreein' with your choice of lifestyle, but rather tossin' in my own world view- Perspective and positive thinking and living day-to-day only goes so far. I mean, I wake up every day and tell myself "Today will be better. I'm gonna make the best of it." And by the end of the day… well, there's always tomorrow, right?

F**k it. Sometimes you're just dealt a crap hand, and there's nothin' you can make of it.

Maybe I need a f**king "life coach", huh?

I keep saying all that positive shit because it's better than saying the negative shit. Forty-two years of saying all the negative shit; it just got a little tired. So I figured , f**k it, I'll try something else. The positive shit works better.

The past eight years of my life have been in the shitter. Trying to restart everything after a complete breakdown? I get over that and then set myself up for another breakdown… I am currently incapable of working a full work schedule, I'm f**ked up in the head and can't handle the stress. At least you have your health. mine's gone with the wind. (Pun: since you said "tomorrow is another day."

And remember even with a crap hand you can still win the game depending on how you play it. (Damn I thought he had a straight flush and all he had was a pair of twos?) ;)

Now, I just skimmed a few posts, and since everybody's so down. I thought I'd try my hand at helping.

Even before you click on the "post reply" button, or anything like that, hear me out. Sure I may be young yet, and haven't even experienced what half of you are going through.

But I assure you, I do know what I'm talking about.

Okay, so you all want to be happier, yes?
Now, as easy as this next phrase will sound, it's not, believe me.

Positive thinking will get you far. If you change the way you think, you can ultimately change your life. Self-Motvation can help you become more confident, can even help out your work ethic, and overall, make you a happier and better person.

Now, that's easier said than done, right?

You have to take small steps. Such as…

-When something in your life is amiss, such as you can't find a job, don't think negatively. I know, not finding a job sucks (a lot), but what good will thinking negatively do? None. In fact, I'm sure employers would like a positive worker more than a negative worker.

-When you make a mistake, don't blame it on someone else. It doesn't make the mistake go away, and it sure as hell doesn't make you a better person. So you made a mistake, what do you do? Just do it, don't think negatively, don't blame it on anyone else, just say you'll fix it. Unless of course, it is unfixable, then, in the right situations, just say you'll try better next time (such as on tests, etc)

-When you get angry, don't get physical, or start screaming and swearing. I know at the time you'll want to, even I want to. But you just have to take a deep breath, count to 10, and release. Close your eyes when you do it too. Clear your mind of all thoughts. If that doesn't work, then close your eyes and picture things that make you happy.

Uh…crap.
I ran out of stuff to say.
But, basically what I was trying to say was…(and I really hope I got this point across)

THINK POSITIVELY!!!!

Careful ryu… someone might nail you to a tree, tar-and-feather, draw and quarter, scourge, water torture, vivisect or any one of millions of horrible fates simply because you dared to say that changing your thinking will change your life and that positive thoughts are better than negative ones. lol!

It took four decades for me to learn something so simple. :)

Another important tool: learn to laugh. Live to learn. We are always learning.

Ryu, as cheesy as that kinda was, it's a really good idea. Crap has happened to me, but I know I'm responsible for a large portion of my own unhappiness. I could probably get past all those things pretty easily if I didn't have this horrible "I don't have what I want in life so I'm going to refuse to be happy until I get it" attitude. Maybe I'll try to be happier.

…but it's more likely that I'll be back here tomorrow with another big ol' rant.

The problem is I can't just not show up at lunch, because my last class before noon is with three of the four people I eat with. It would take some pretty good sneaking skills to get away inconspicuously. I might just make an excuse like having to finish a project and go read in the library…though I'd rather sit outside.

And yeah, there are definitely some things that make me feel better and I have a lot of neat projects at the moment, but school is making me do crap as well so I often don't have time to do those things.

You missed what I said. Just go and do your thing at lunch and don't worry what they think. If they ask, just tell them you needed some important you time. Easy as that. They won't have a reason to get pissy about it and they shouldn't.

And when I said make the crap stuff work for you, I literally meant it. If you get an assignment that's boring in school, find a way to spice it up and make it more fun for you. Just because it's a research paper doesn't mean you can't do the research on something weird and fun like Zombies or whatever. Finding ways to combine the projects you want to do with the one you have to do. Ryu put it pretty well. You only get out what you put in when it comes to anything in life. If you decide that it's going to go your way, it will. It might take a bit, but it gets better.

You're totally right. It's all about the bluff. Or the game you're playin'- I mean, crap cards in Hold 'Em are awesome cards in Omaha, right? But on a somewhat more serious note- yeah, you're right- the negative crap is just self-perpetuating and doesn't help anything. I wasn't shittin' on bein' positive; I've just have had a tough go at it lately. Didn't mean to flip out like that. Maybe it's the "vent" part of this thread. Just tryin' to get my money's worth, as I use the "rant" and "share" features waaaay more. ;)

What? "Don't get angry"? You're… you can't be serious, right? DON'T YOU DARE TRY TO TAKE MY ANGER AWAY, YOU LITTLE…Calm? What do you mean? I AM CALM! THIS IS MY INSIDE VOICE!!!

I think everyone is different when it comes to dealing with anger…sometimes I can just walk for a few hours and then I'm more or less fine, other times I honestly just have to break something and be like Oh shit, I got too angry and broke something, and then I can go for that walk. For me the most important thing is getting myself away from that situation as soon as I start getting out of control. 10 seconds doesn't cut it to calm myself.

lba: Yeah, I definitely try to do that with projects. Every time I do, I get close to 100%. Some stuff is kind of creativity-proof, though, like verb sheets. My french teacher LOVES those.
I probably will try to steal myself away at lunch…sometime next week, maybe.

Yeah, I feel ya on the breakin' stuff. I'll break stuff, then go on a long walk, lookin' for more stuff to break. I'm a bad with the whole "throw the nearest heavy object into the wall, despite the fact that you might not own that heavy object, or the wall" thing too. But so long as I don't do anything that gets the law called on me, I figure it's a viable way to deal with it. ;)

The new power cord came in today, so we found out the problem is with the computer. I'm going to have to deal with this computer until the end of the semester. Luckily, my uncle will be loaning me his spare laptop so I can use it for general purposes. It will really take some strain of this computer if I only use for coloring. When I get home, I will be with my other computer that has photoshop. The only bad thing is that this computer as a mouse. I've gotten so use to drawing and coloring with the touch pad of my laptop.

Ahhh. solitude has never been more sweet.

my parents are leaving me alone for a week, and I just had myself some homemade pot pie I made myself… life is good.

I'm totally lovin' the total silence around here.

. . . and done! I just finished a four hour session with a student on the subject of Dante's The Inferno. It turned out that it WAS a rough draft of a five paragraph paper and so, although his secondary sources sucked and were useless, we were able to cobble together something that would pass muster in bad light as far as his literature teacher was concerned. Or so I hope.

Good ol' Dante was absolutely certain that it was correct to judge everyone by his personal standards, including the ancients who never heard of Christianity. It apparently never dawned on him that he could possibly be wrong.

Anyway it was a very expensive paper and one hopes that the boy's parents will take the expense out of his allowance from now until he is fat and middle-aged. Well . . . I don't actually charge that much for a four hour work session; but some parents think I do.

:)

Here's to ripping off lazy students! ^___^

WOOOOOO! 13 more minutes till I'm off home for the weekend! WooooooooT!!!!!!!!!!

Oh I remember not caring about weekends… Life was sweet then. But back then I didn't have as much money or cool stuff. Still, I think I was better off.

Ah well.

So there's an Arbys toasted Italian sub in the fridge with my name on it, mmmmmm. They aren't as good when microwaved though, but i fell asleep after mom got home with it. Those are pretty much my favorite fast food things next to kfc snackers, and it's not too shabby on the health either.

I had a workout yesterday, almost completely weight machine stuff. There was this huge cop there that was doing that arm yank thing on 200lbs @.@ His arms were bigger than my waist, but he seemed really nice. I can apparently push 100lbs easily on that leg seat…thing…(i have no clue what these are called)

There was a buff guy from my high school there who never looks anyone in the eye ever, he hoped on the pec pull machine i was just on and started doing really fast reps, grunting and breathing really hard. He hoped off after 20 and then walked away fast. I went over to see what set it was on…it was 40lbs. I guess in his defense he was doing it pretty fast, but all that crazy grunting and breathing over 40lbs was just..
Ah well I'd probably be grunty too, but i'm a scrawny girl with hardly any arm muscle :/

i see a lot of highschool kids come into the gym, put 135 on the bench, and then grunt like the guys i see pushing 245. i'm not saying they're not strong, as i do the same amount of weight, but with 98% less grunting. i think they just think that's what helps them breathe, which it doesnt.

2 miles. 7 minutes each. i'm on my way to do that. i will do that. and i may run further, but i dont care about the speed after two miles right now. i just will get the 2 miles down. and by the end of next week, i'll be running 3 miles at that speed. i will do it.

My arm muscles are… in proportion to the rest of me. Big arm muscles are interesting to look at, but tend to look a bit awkward and swollen too.

Posted at

My muscles are…decent size. When you first glance at me, you couldn't even tell I work out. Although, I used to be a biiiiig kid. And I was a loser too. I started working out, and basically got some friends. Now i'm pretty skinny (don't have abs yet, dang. lol), and I have a lot of friends.

Speaking of which, I totally need to keep on track with my working out. I've been kinda slacking as of lately. :P

But at least the comic is going good! I was inking 4 pages at once. And they turned out good! I just need to tone them. Along with the rest of the chapter…when I get it done.

Time to go to school! And I think I'll just keep penciling until I get to the end of the chapter.

You need to slack when you exercise or you'll never get anywhere. It's so true! The body only builds more muscle if you take breaks and stuff.
I have abbs. Just. Shallow ones, not that defined yet. It'd be nice to have a sharply defined set though :)
Eh, it'll happen eventually.

Yeah that's exactly what happened to me junior year, I did ab exercises every day without break days thinking it'd build me up- in reality i was doing harm because if you don't let the muscles rest for a full day they won't grow. I started doing ab stuff only 3 days per week with days in between- my stomach got super tight and nice :)

With cardio I don't think you need more than 2 days per week break if that, idk though

Posted at

since this is the exercise thread these days…

Any suggestions at what I should do to burn off extra belly fat? Something SPECIFICALLY for that, not something that will build up my arms/shoulders OR legs. I'm quite happy with my current build and I neither want to end up too skinny (don't want no "stickman" legs) nor too bulky (would look stupid in the things I want to wear).

Oh yeah, and it should be something that can be done at home. There are scary bald guys at the local gym, haha.

Sorry Aurora but there's not such thing as spot reduction, you can do ab exercises like crunches/planks/what have you and tighten that area but they won't 'burn' off the fat covering it.(the 'burning' is apparently lactic acid in your muscles, it's not really affecting the fat) You'll have to do cardio + running to get it off and that will remove fat from all area of your body somewhat equally.

If you can't start running try gilad's fitness tape :P

Well, I tried "dancing" to music and generally it works (I say "dancing" cause it's mostly shaking hips and some undescribable movements) and it's basically like aerobic activity so I need an hour for it to do anything (first half hour it's just burning carbs and only after that it goes for fat) but ther's the problem… either the music is lacking in motivating me and I don't really do much movement OR I totally fall into it and start going wild which gets me hopping around AAAND usually after a week of that my right ankle starts complaining about that.

So I guess that rules out running too.

Exercises on youtube? *pauses, slaps head*
Damn, why didn't I think of that :P I mean, I go to youtube whenever I need some video or something, should be obvious.
