I give up, i like vampires, and trueblood is awesome beyond all reasoning. I don't regret ripping on the genre though-i hadn't yet seen the light(HBO).
Apparently season two has a lesbian vampire queen which gives me yet another reason to love it BD
On the topic of new season lesbianism heroes might be getting one between claire and some new character THEY DEFINITELY NEED MORE OF THOSE Y'KNOW but it might have just been a teaser for the new girls power and not steamy teen adventures during sleepovers.

The 2009 Rant, Vent, and Share thread
So, yesterday I did thumbnails for about 20 pages and then drew 2 full pages. Today I'm shooting for three or more. Hopefully soon I'll get to the point where I can comfortably do 4-5 pages a day.
Also, I'm developing a weird habit of writing a post and then switching the tabs without posting it (wrote the above paragraph about 3 hours ago, heh).
The weather this summer is killing me. It's cold and wet and cold and wet and cold and wet… I can't keep the window open at night, can't really keep it open during the day either as it's too windy most of the time, or it's raining… Eh.
GAH!
Who the hell needs 50 pairs of pants!?!?
Who needs 100 t-shirts?
What about 50 pairs of socks?
20 hats?
How many goddamned suits and jackets does one person need?
I'm gettin' rid of a lot of stuff, but still it's TOO MUCH!
At least I'm not a shoe freak.
Packing sucks.
So I decided to do a major rewrite of the next chapter of the comic. Something had always bothered me about it. Why introduce totally new characters unrelated to anything else at that point in the story? Then I realized it was so I could lecture on religion and philosophy and trot out my cool world-building background which had little to do with the plot. So they're to be replaced with characters relevant to a sub-plot already introduced.
The best place to use chemical weapons is on someone totally unprepared, a like a civilian population. In war it's a great inconvenence because it makes the enemy carry around all this equipment and wear the suits and carry that 12 pound pro mask satchel on your hip (great way to get bursitis)
It's not the weapon that's effective but the threat of the weapon that creates such an inconvenience to your enemy. You're being far too practical Ozone. The point is to create all kinds of useless activity in reaction to a perceived threat. (Also wounding lots of the enemy in nasty ways and spreading panic is worth the use of chemical weapons. The point is that you're prepared and they're not) I mean every rain drop on every leaf has to be tested with the litmus paper! It could be nerve agent! Just like the sniffles and H1N1.
Making your enemy waste lots of valuable resources is worth it. A great example was D-Day. The allies were forced to carry lots of extra gear because of the threat of chemical weapons. The job would have been easier without having to lug around that mask and gas sheet. Though it is a nice bag once you throw away the mask. That is what that satchel every Russian soldier had in WWII originally was. And who knew that the German mask canister was perfect for carrying sausage and potatoes? :)(Just like the grenade launchers on modern tanks and AFVs are the perfect size for soda cans)
Now you know why they always carried that stuff around in WWII.
20 hats?Any well dressed person. That's a minimum.
Crap. Really?
I only have like…2 hats.
I don't even wear one of them.
My hair + hat = No no.
So I've decided not to do a script again.
I saw this interesting tutorial a while back, by I believe Mayshing, who had an interesting way of doing thumbnails.
You take like, a certain amount of paper (copy paper), like, fold it, and I think staple it. Kind of like a mini-comic, but you just draw the thumbnails on that. I'm going to try that.
I just think my comic is cursed. :P
But good thing is, I think I'm getting my cardstock paper today. So that means, if I practically get everything sketched out, I could start drawing today! Or tomorrow!
I'm still trying to figure out some of the more advanced stuff. It's tough. :[
least i dont think ive see him around lately.hey buddy.
I missed ya too!
Actually I've been trying to get on with what I was supposed to be doing instead of goofing off to yap on the interwebs - it doesn't really work though, so I heartily recommend goofing, idling, procrastinating and other web based pursuits.
My poison ivy rash and my sunburn healed, but now I have a new unbearable itch from where a tick bit me two days ago. I love that my job takes me outside, but why must nature hate me so?I think nature loves you and that's why it wants to cook you and eat you. I'm sporting a couple of mosquito bites myself right now and I feel sorry for those poor saps who can't even attract an insect.
argh… so far I've got many great ideas for my new comic, but when it comes to write them down, I'll get easily distracted and give up in an half an hour… maybe like writing a half A4 paper -.- Oh well, it's not like my artist is hyper or anything, so I don't have to worry that much XD but it bothers me cause I might forget some of these ideas :(
Oh well, it's not like my artist is hyper or anythingWait, when did you get an artist? Why can't I get an artist?
Here's a thing that bothers me greatly. Three times. Three! Bloody! Times! have I stumbled upon an artist that's looking for a writer or answered one of my "artist wanted" ads.
I tell them them my rough story plans and they go "Wow! Cool story" or "That's awesome" but then completely disappear, shortly after. All future attempts to contact them go unanswered. They just drop of the face of the Earth. They're not stealing my idea either. Our talks never go far enough that I'm actually sending them my script and I haven't seen them around, drawing up a story that's suspiciously similar to mine.
So what's the deal? I didn't say anything that should have offended them. They never wrote me, saying "on second thought, your story isn't that cool". I was careful not to pester them with 10 e-mails a day. Why can't I find an artist to bond with? It's really irritating.

Well my artist is farly active(Lemniskate) on DD and reads Bobby. One day I just had this idea and I contacted him to see if he was interested. Turns out, he kind of likes my writing :P
I don't know PP, maybe you'll have to be on simular level or something :/
I keep a notepad by my bed and just jot down a sentence or two about the idea or plot points, i keep the mechanics in my head as writing it down tends to deflate my interest. You should try '30 minute writing' where you sit down and just write out a story with a time frame of 30 minutes max, don't edit or proofread it until it's finished. (and i mean a short story with beginning, middle and end not some crazy ass 400page comic)
————–
Motherfucker i am bored -_- I have 3 pages of my comic done except all of them are missing a panel or two. I'm moving onto the 4th page since it's much more exciting to draw but i'm worried that once i've finished all 12 pages i'll still have a ton to fix up.
It has a cool twist though, a little predictable if the readers really think about it, but still cool. :)

ONLY three times? Some people go through 30-50 artists before they find one to work with (or they decide to pay them a pagerate, money usually makes a lot of the artists quite more susceptible to working with you)…
I wrote a script. Found a guy who wanted to break into comics (after doing concept design for games and had an idea of his own. We made a deal. He'll draw my book and meanwhile I'll help him work on his story (he had a pretty interesting take on the superman archetype that I really wanted to see realized) and perhaps write stuff for him. I sent him the script, he liked it but asked me for thumbnails (as he wasn't feeling ready to tackle layouts/camera angles yet). I sent the thumbnails, he started to work on character designs…
…I never saw a single page from him, he disappeared from the net for about a year (after which I found out he was sick with urban life and went on some mission to help people or something in south america, whatever it was).
The second artist picked up a job a week before he started to draw my book and as result didn't have the time to work… and so on.
Finally I decided to return to drawing by myself and I'm quite happy I did… except now I have this "crazy ass 400page comic" script (actually closer to 500, haha) to draw.
Well, I've been trying to get more then just 3 artists but three times have I managed to come far enough to start discussing the concept with someone. I'm just annoyed about the whole "disappearing without giving any reason" act that I keep experiencing. It just feels kinda rude. I much rather get an explanation to why he or she doesn't want to work with me.
PP did they stop replying after you sent them the script? Sometimes the story plans can sound really cool but once they get the script they might see it's not all it's cracked up to be- and feel it's insulting to say 'eh i changed my mind…'.
Doesn't help if you look at any comic collab forum and see how many 'writer seeking artist' for every 'artist seeks writer'- Amateur writers are not in demand so an artist has a huge pool of people to pick from at any given time.

My hair + hat = No no.It depends man. You probably have caps. The so called "baseball cap" (has other names too and it wasn't invented for baseball).
Anyway, that sort of cap is close-fitting and moulds your hair in a silly shape. There are millions of hats out there and not all mess up you hair. The less they mould to the head, the less they kill you hair. A loose beret like I prefer for example doesn't really have much effect at all. Traditional shaped felt hats like cowboy hats, trilbies, etc. fit tight only on the band, so that's where they will affect your hair, not all over like a cap.

OK, I drew up the rough for a whole page yesterday evening. I am so happy! Looking forward to getting into it today ^__^

I just discovered that Skoolmunkee, Patrickdevine and Hyena Hell think Ghost in the Shell is over-rated as a comic. This is terrible news. :(
Obviously I take it personally and think they're all evil poop-people.
So yesterday was day 2 and I did 3 pages, so now I got pages 3-7 ready, yay (comic starts on page 3, I adjusted the pagecount for the printed book already to avoid problems I had before).
Going for three today too, although I wouldn't complain if I managed four pages (I probably will once I get to the conversation in the carriage, it's basically heads/upperbodies floating in the dark, haha).

Also, I like GITS manga, it's better than the movie… hell, I saw some of the color pages reproductions in a gaming magazine yeeeeeeeears ago next to the review of the movie (they had a manga/anime corner of sorts) and was all like "OMG I GOT TO READ THIS SOMEDAY!" and then was all mad cause at that point there was ONLY the Japanese edition. I really wish I didn't sell my Polish edition :(

I said that I was inclined to think it was over-rated, but added the disclaimer that it had been ten years since I read it, and might think differently if I were to read it today. So I ought to be just a poop-person, as opposed to an evil poop-person. ;)

On a probationary status :)

Well, one of them is a baseball cap.
The other is a beanie-cap (not sure if that's what it's called)
But the beanie cap looks fine on me.
I've always wanted a top hat though…
Hmm…

I remember seeing somewhere that most Mangaka have to create 19 pages of Manga a week. That's approximately 3 or so a day. So you'd be working on Mangaka speed if you did that :P
Don't tell me why I just randomly said that. lol.
And speaking of Ghost in the Shell, I played a game on the PS2 before of it (I actually owned it too) and I loved it. It seemed like a pretty cool series.
I personally hate ALL anime (except Gurren Lagann), and would much prefer just to read the manga.

That's a nice number… Doing consistently three pages a day, everyday, would give you 90 pages a month… and 1095 pages a year, haha. I could draw Amen City Chronicles in 2 years (if I had all the story worked out and focused on this rather than that other thing I'm doing now).
I'm pondering scanning the first five pages as a preview of sorts…
The wife keeps hinting at me getting the second job. I'm still freaked out with the first one. When did my head get so fragile? It's not the weapon that's effective but the threat of the weapon that creates such an inconvenience to your enemy. That's a part of it, but the effectiveness of that strategy depends of propaganda and intelligence, not really the weapons itself—————-
Propaganda implies spreading false information. Being caught unprepared for a chem attack is not propaganda. When they walk you through the effects of a chem attack on someone unprepared and you freak out you don't mind carrying all that stuff. You know it's a waste, the enemy knows it's a waste, but if they pop it and you're not ready? You're fucked. Royally fucked. Propaganda is really a misleading term for this. You don't have to say a thing. The rumor mill and the story builds itself because as far as gas goes it's true. That first time. No one wants to be caught unprepared because it's so freaky. When you see that guy with his lungs burned out, that's enough.
Nope, all you need is that successful first use and soon enough every troop has to pack that 12 pound pro mask on his hip. One incident of panic and complete collapse of morale and it's not propaganda but an overdose of preventive medicine. And it's worked every time. All you need do is use it effectively once.
Just like a tank is so impressive you only have to use them efectively once. It's hard to get "crunchies" to overcome their fear of big steel things that can grind them into vegemite. They're fucked and they know it. So they have all those AT-4s and RPGs and pro-masks and MOPP suits and chemical units because it only has to work once. And your propaganda geeks don't have to say a word. And the intell? That guy coughing up blood is its own intell.
