Haha. Yeah, I'm not too, er, feminine. Most of my friends have at one point or another claimed I am "totally a dude". lol!

Gary Cooper? I'm flattered! When I was little I was positive I was gonna grow up to be Humphrey Bogart. I was crushed when I figured out that wasn't gonna happen. But I can still pretend!*

And thanks for the concern- I am doin' much better; much more like myself. Boooo Bipolar Disorder! Hooray, modern medicine! lol!

*Note: That was Halloween. But I do rock the 3-piece suit as a part of my "everyday" wardrobe. Me = weirdo.)

Yer kiddin'! Seriously, I had exactly the same expectation! Sadly, there are no pics of me in my trilby.

Lookin' smooth.

Why in the world not?

As a male though, it can be harder to dress as funky as you'd like to most of the time. It's just a fact that in most environments a higher degree of social conformity is expected of you. That's why I loved teaching art. :)

WOOT! My colouring is going great! Sweet-spot work. Wow. It really helps to know exactly the environmental conditions, time of day etc. It informs you how things should look and I KNOW beach scenes well enough to fake most of it.

I am dreading getting to the damn tiger stripes though. -_-

There's a big difference between being expected to do something and actually doing it.

Of course, this attitude is probably why I have nearly no real friends. Don't listen to me, my advice will ruin your life.

You can have a fine balance, that's what I prefer.

There is the extreme of "just do what you feel like", but depending on how far you go, you can be actively excluded socially to the point of ostracism.
And when I say "social" I mean that in a general sense, not just friends.

The other extreme is complete passive resignation- conformity by default. That's pretty sad.

Someone who actively tries to be conformist isn't an extreme, that's the social norm, and they'll drift or shift to either side eventually.

When I was little I wanted to be Errol Flynn, or Fred Astair. Errol's pencil moustache FTW.

I dressed pretty much as a relic from a bygone age in my demob suit and trilby back then and hang the consequences - I was proud not to follow the crowd.

Unfortunately, my sartorial crimes coincided with a minor trend for zootsuits and jazz dance that happened around the time of the new romantics, so instead of being a social outcast I was thought to be some kind of cutting edge in-crowd hipster. I totally failed to be ostracised!

lol! Well it should be a consequence, not an objective anyway. :P

Everyone fits in somewhere. :)

…reminds me of one of my fave Aussie bands from the 80s, The Hudu Gurus. -Back then then the hippie look was REALLY on the nose here, seriously out, but they went more and more into it. In the 90's it came back in and because of that the band got new fame and popularity. So they just made fun of their look and then ditched it for good.

…I'd rather they never changed though :P

We should go back to Georgian fashions. Nothing says sexy like lead based make up, enormous wigs, and cork balls.

Had a nice day. I took the bus out to visit my dad at work. An old lady at the bus stop told me that I have nice legs…which was kind of weird, but I appreciated the compliment. I went for lunch with my dad at my favourite place and had all my favourite food there. Then we went into the record shop and I found The Clash - Give 'Em Enough Rope and The Beatles - Yellow Submarine. And I finally found a new computer desk! Wooo.

Cork balls.

Cork balls?

They had cork balls?

Rant: I'm getting to grips with the whole tablet drawing?painting business now, but there's one drawback. It's so easy to delete everything with one click. There I go again…

It is indeed. I was never the guy who ran around in a leather jacket and mohawk, mostly baggy jeans, hooded sweatshirts and dirty t-shirts on top of long sleeves, but once I got to college and had to get a job to make ends meet, I had to lose even that little bit of 90's grunge style I had. Now I just wear the same old dirty work shirt and regular jeans. But I don't get much of a choice, it's either conform to the expected uniform, or starve and be crushed under a mountain of debt.

conformity for job

every day i go to work, i'm dressed like 1 out of three people, on mondays, i look exactly the same as everyone else.

i cut my hair just like them, and none of us have facial hair, except pedophiles. with their slick mustache's.

Does not cutting your hair at all count as non-conformity? I hope not, or I'll probably be unemployed for a very long time.

So i'm coloring the aztec dino pic, it looks freaking amazing so far, like out of a disney movie :) Okay maybe that's just ego stroking, but it really does look cool.

I woke up at 1a.m. yesterday and forced myself to stay awake until 6.30p.m so i could sleep the whole night, i woke up at 11.pm anyways =_= I'm fully rested but i'm going to be tired by the middle of the day tomorrow urgh.

So I'm half way through inking three pages when my new Wacom arrives. What do I do?
Well naturally, I scan the pages so I can finish inking them digitally. Not only have I never used a tablet before, but I've set myself the task of perfectly matching the line quality I was getting the day before with pen and brush and paper, on a tight deadline. Sounds reasonable right?

It turns out this endeavour can best be summed up as:

Grrr@ x 1.000.000!

I've packed up all my drawin' stuff, all nice and tidy… and I'm goin' crazy on account of I need to draw! It's one of the things that keeps me sane, and I "owe" mbloom a guest strip and PIT FACE a cover and I wanna make incentives and I have to get a print done for a show by the middle of next month, that I need to sketch out…

So I'm gonna blow my last $10 on a pad of bristol, and to hell with it. I can't not draw. It's driving me nuts!

But on the plus side- SIX MORE DAYS!!!!! until I move back to New Orleans!

It's been 4 f**kin' years, people. I feel like Odysseus.
