Amazing I ran into a guy I hadn't seen in at least 12 years. Did he remember me? No, he remembered my brother's name. Typical he hasn't seen my brother for 14 years. Good to see him again, good to go to a hobby show again.
This guy is gov't employee and one of the reasons the US hase such an inflated military budget. He makes over $100,000 as a shop supervisor on a military post. A soldier doing his job would make about a third of that (assuming a senior NCO or a CWO) There are plenty where he came from. Salaries are a large chunk of the US military budget, a lot more than most realize. But no large salaries for military personnel. ;)

but we get enough to take care of ourselves. assuming that we live within our means. I may not have a huge savings account, but i have more items in my house than most family's working 2+ jobs do. and on top of that, i have a decent place to live. granted, one rank below mine, and i'd be back living at that drug apartment, but you gotta stay within your means, if most people did that, cheap housing wouldn't be so bad. (you actually get screwed over more, living in base housing, now that it's contracted out). And i test for the next rank in may, i'll find out if i made it in august, and then if i do, i'll be able to move into a House. not a modular home, but a built house.
but there's a saying in the military, "the best way to get orders, is to buy a house" meaning, as soon as you decide to settle in the area, you're going to get orders to another base. happened to 5 guys i know since i joined.
That's funny. I'm reading a book about the British army in the 1800's and the poor pay and conditions there. In the first year of joining they'd actually end up OWING money- because of the cost of the kit, meals etc.
And the uniforms would change periodically and they'd have to buy new ones, or they'd get posted somewhere else and have to buy a new uniform for that… so expensive.
And officer's uniforms were even MORE expensive.
Fascinating, but unpleasant.
I just spent most of the last thirty-six hours in bed enduring feverish dreams. Cause? Allergies. The pollen count has been off the scale lately and my body has reacted by trying to kill me. Well, actually I'm up and about now and I feel much better.
Anyway what's interesting is the slow motion fever dream that I had for most of that down time. I was some sort of government agent working for some shadow boss and had to perform employee, agency wide, background security clearances. Well it turned out that only four of our employees were human beings. The rest were holograms masquerading as human. My job was to discover which four were the real humans while basing my guesses on the enigmatic hints of my boss. That's it. I'd only discovered two of the four by the time I finally awoke from my feverish dream state.
I did discover the villain of the scenario . . . not realizing that there was a villain until just before I woke up . . . and the villain was a slab of green jello in the shape of a yin/yang symbol.
Yay for allergies.

Ugh, I hate the food dreams myself. sometimes you end up craving what you can't have at the moment, because it's out of season or something.
one time I dreamed that I was one of the food testers for new ice cream flavors… they had those new flavors that tasted just exactly like the cakes I liked. Devil's food ice cream, etc….they also had made flavors that tasted just like some of my favorite candies…
and then I woke up with a corner of my pillow in my mouth, and there was saliva all over the pillow. I had to throw that into the dryer… That was kind of gross. -_-;;
And of course with my luck there wasn't any existing ice cream that would taste exactly like my favorite cake flavor.
Oh, it's more stat-like rantin'. Hmph.
I wish my ads were doing better. I've found a couple sites that cost next to nothing and get me some clicks, but I'm not gettin' more than 20 a day from either of 'em. I think it's because I don't have flashy colorful ads- but I don't want to put out anything that ain't indicative of the comic. I'd rather have people that are attracted to the kinda stuff I do and are gonna bookmark and come back than random "meh, f**k this" one-time page views.
On a good note, though- even though I ain't gettin' too many unique visitors a day, my over-all stats are about 3-4 times that, and my return visitors are goin' up. I think that's a good sign, right- that folks are actually goin' through the archives? Maybe I can start averaging 1k-1500 views by the time I get through with the second chapter. I know it's not much compared to what some people shoot for, but I'd be frickin' thrilled.
me being here shows how dedicated i am to studying for the next rank. i mean, at least i'm on the computer with the test question data bank.
i love and hate bad weather. in bad weather, we cant do transitions. we just have to land. but landing still sucks in bad weather.
The other day, someone told me that I keep saying 'shit' under my breath. I honestly had no idea that I did this. Explains quite a lot of the nasty glares I get, though.
Additional: Why are Apple products so fucking finicky? I just want to put some music on my fucking iSod (hur huuur see what I did there?), but no, itunes somehow managed to pick out my favourite albums and didn't fucking sync them, and then I tried to simply re-sync my music folder because I'm sick of having to sort through it file by file to replace the ones it didn't sync like it was fucking supposed to in the first place.
This didn't work, because I ended up simply making copies of each one. Then a prompt told me that there wasn't enough room, but that it'd try to sync as many as it could any way. There was no way to actually stop the process, because the prompt kept coming back no matter what I clicked, so I had to sit here for nearly an hour clicking ok.
So now I'm doing that again, but deleting all of the files on it first, but I can't. I seriously can't figure out how to delete shit from the fucking thing, except when I don't actually want to, which is why this happened in the first place.
Fuck you Apple. Fuck you with sand paper coated condoms.
I dreamed that my colored pencils were disintegrating when I tried to use them. The center would fall out of each pencil and would crack into flakes when I tried to put it back. This was the divine punishment mandated exclusively for people who were not very good at coloring.
Resisting that idea, I began to compose a letter to the company complaining about the pencil quality and requesting replacements for the broken pencils, but then my mechanical pencil broke into small pieces as I was trying to write that letter and I knew all was lost…
I'm starting to have a serious loathing towards yaoi webcomics, it like they're all the same regurgitation of these:

-'uke' is a whiny little bitch while bubbly other dude chases after him, bubbly dude as a child was usually raped

Skullbie, I'm so with you on that one. The worst is when they take a beloved video game character and link them with another, even more unlikely, video game character. It makes me die a little inside.

I have to say I had no idea web yaoi was so violent. I don't mind yaoi but all this rape you guys mentioned? Wow. That's not a great way to pay tribute to your favorite characters. I don’t actually read character team-ups but I, a member of Deviant art so I see quite a bit of yaoi fan art.

It wasn't yaoi, it was just a fantasy/magic comic done by a guy who is probably gay, and does the same exaggerations a hetero guy might do on fantasy women :] There was only like, two penises. And everyone wore lip gloss. I thought it was fun. :]

But the civilian contractors made out like bandits! The system was designed so the stoppages for needed supplies kept the War Office and the contractors nice and fat.
Many officers could not afford to advance in rank because of the cost of buying the rank and the new uniforms. Others afforded it all to well because of daddy's money. Then in battle as the 19th Century advanced the uniforms the officers wore in the field were simpler and cheaper than the ranker's field uniform, but thank heavens for khaki. Cheap khaki broadcloth…
