Good news everyone!
The snow that was previously here, like, not even 5 hours ago, melted! It's nice enough for me to go work out!

And my brother bought me a pad of bristol paper (first time using it, I'm actually really excited, hope it's worth it), and treated me to Subway.

:D

AND I STILL HAVE THE WEEK OFF!

No, no, you're supposed to follow that phrase with something terrible.

I've been taking it easy this week… a little TOO easy. not only have I got hardly any work done, I've gotten NO comics done. doh

You know what I like about downtown? Everyone calls me and my best friend "ladies." It's nice in a creepy way.

And for my rant, I've had the song "Downtown" stuck in my head for a reeeaaallly long time now.

In Yorkshire (I'm not sure if it's all of Yorkshire or just the bit where I was raised) everyone calls everyone else 'love', regardless of such trivial matters as gender or age. When I moved to Cheshire, everyone thought I was either a pervert or gay (I didn't know at the time) because I didn't realise it wasn't universal.

It really doesn't have anything to do with what you said, but I like rambling, pointless anecdotes.

I am the King of those.

I think here in the states the South has got way more of those kind of- I dunno what you'd call 'em- but when people use words like hon, darlin', babe, boo, sweetheart, dear, etc. while addressing pretty much everyone. Also people tend to make eye contact more. When I'm in NY or Philly or somewhere like that, I get looked at with incredulity when I speak to people. ;)

Here in the North, we prefer our perfunctory exclamations such as Oi!, Eh?, Yep, and Jah. I know about the eye contact thing though. I tend to keep my eyes on people and they find it a little creepy sometimes.

I think I just had the shortest job interview ever this afternoon. I called my last boss. The conversation basically went;
Me: "Hey!"
Boss: "Hi, what day can you start?"
Me: " Um… May 18th?"
Boss: "Get here faster ya lazy ass."
Me: "Like hell I will. Now it's may 31st."
Boss: ( chuckling) "Alright, I'll put you on the schedule for the 18th."

I kind of feel bad because of how easy that was and how most other people I know are struggling for jobs. The fact that I apparently have another job offer and a couple major commissions makes me feel like I should be finding some way to give these jobs to other people.

i don't know if it is a good or bad thing, but i learned how to play the verse in lady gaga's pokerface on keyboard.

edit: and i don't play the piano, i usually press the keys hoping that it will sound like i'm not randomly pressing keys.

So i watched k-on! Made me feel like i was a class LS* pedophile ;-; It was beautifully animated but the main character was annoying as hell she acts like shes 4 years old!(looks like it too)
*Lucky Star

So i don't think i'm going to be able to color that 3 week comic in time(at all) since the total page count stretched out to like 17 T-T
That yaoi one is even sorter so maybe i'll switch it….or maybe i'll do them both and forget all about that 3-week goal

Have you still go the accent? That's a nice accent. :)

Someone wolf whistled at me from a passing car this morning on the way to the train… Didn't see who it was. It's always a bit freaky when that happens. -_-

I've don't actually have an accent. My voice is so generic that it's nearly impossible to guess where I'm from just by listening to it.

It sucks, because accents are great.

See if you get his phone number, and try to get as far with him as you can before he works it out.

Wow, that was a strange one truth be told.

My mom's been badgering me to make some money off my comics or charge people for me to color their comics, i dunno since pretty much the only ones who want manga art are teens who don't pay and i don't think i'm versatile enough at coloring to charge for it(i've only done manga/high school scenes and most people paying for colorists want superhero, grimdark or fantasy.)
Eh i guess i should quit wanking and find some hi-res inked comics to practice on.

Good f'ing luck. Seriously. Why do parents think art is only worthwhile if there's money to be made?

I think it's the other way around- it sounds like her mom knows that Skullbie's time and work is worth money and wants her to be able to capitalize on that.

Everyone has an accent to someone else. It's a matter of perception and the dialect you're accustomed to. The flat Pennslyvania twang I have (the accepted US "news voice") is an accent to New Yorkers. I have an ear for accents and am a successful mimic. I can slip into an accent and a native will ask what part of their country I'm from. It's fun. American women love it. (That scene in Love Actually?)

Then there was the time I was trapped in a limo surrounded by women from Long Island who all sounded like Fran Drescher. I can laugh about it now… It was Hell on earth.

Hell is other people. ;)

If you want her off your back, show her the PW ad revenue and anything like scholarships your comic has helped you get. That's what pacified my dad when he got pissy that I was spending too much time telling jokes.

Btw, you never feel like you're ready to jump in and start. You've got enough western influence in your work that you can make the jump though. It's really not hard at all to jump from one way of doing it to another once you look at the work a bit.

Heh. I actually did a scholarship because of a comic- $17.000/year for 4 years.

Now I try to distract them from the fact that ten years later, I am an utter f**k-up by telling them, "Well, my comic is ranked [x]/[some huge-ass number, possibly made up or exaggerated by me] on [this or that site]!" And then change the subject before their reaction switches from "Wow!" to "Wait… that actually means nothing, doesn't it?" or "…and how is this helping your career?". etc. >:)

so i've discovered 4chan. and now i have aids. and understand why they shut down the TD before it became "another 4chan"

my workouts arent hurting me as much as earlier this week. however, i did cut out the run. and next week i wont be working out at all due to a buisness trip.

also, i dont know if this is happening to other people, or if it's been reported yet, but i'm getting that thing where certain words are highlighted, and when you scroll over them, you get adds. it's happening in almost everyones rant or vent or share.

sometimes i love my work.

Oh! there's a whole thread on it.

that's what i think. at least in most cases. and you know what? i'm finding out that it's true. not that it's only good if money can be made off it, but really, if you love doing art, then why not be able to live off it? or at least let it help you along, especially since materials arent usually cheap.

i did stuff for free, but now i'm learning to ask for a price becuase i feel that my time is worth it. i dont ask for much, cuase i know a lot of people are probably in the same boat as i am. but you know what? i'll probably do an even better job if i'm getting paid. put more quality into it.
it can be kind of intimidating though i guess, it's easy to get ripped off, but hey, there's ways to help safeguard yourself against that kind of thing.
and i've seen yer work Skull, you could be professional if you wanted. i mean that sincerely.

Be prepared to witness things that you'll never want to witness.

Just don't go to the random section (I can't say it, cuz it's in the rules)
But let's just say, I'm kind of part of them. Kind of. :)

But I worked out yesterday, since I stopped because I got sick and my parents freaked out about it. But I decided I HAVE to. I'm gonna spend less time on the computer, and try to draw more as well.

It just makes me happier, I realize.
Sitting on the computer all day, eating bad foods is fun and all. But I'm just never happy that way.

Also got addicted to Pokemon Sapphire. My friend started playing Pokemon again, and I was like, "Lapras is gay lol" and then I got addicted.
:(

But I'm re-doing parts of the page I posted today, already looking MUCH better.

Man, I've been putting off drawin' the next page because I have to draw a dead body tied to a bunch of broken pallets. I mean, I always seem to work through those weird "how the hell did I come up with this crap" scenes, but… still.

So I've gotta sketch the pallets in perspective in five different angles, then with the body on 'em in those same angles, then figure out the position it's sitting in the environment in those angles, and the position of the other characters, etc.- all before I even touch the actual bristol page. Uhg. I hate prep-work; but it do pay off.
***

Also: I wonder what gauge my ears really are. I've never officially stretched 'em, and don't do the plug thing, so I gots no idea. But it's amazing how much crap I can fit through those holes- right now I've got a fairly thick kid's silver bracelet and the rib from a small mammal in one. and there's room for more. huh!?

I didn't get quite that much. But it was the difference between freedom and another 7 years in hell ( oops, I mean Iowa. ) before I could register as a full independent and get the money. But it was a real help to be able to show them that award letter.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Everything that comes out of that pit is recycled and watered down from what it used to be. I remember the predecessor to it and SomethingAwful call Totse. Now that site was twisted. They're the ones who created the unholy trinity that became all that nasty stuff in the first place and I would say they were even crueler and more offensive than any part of 4chan could ever hope to be. People getting into government files wasn't exactly an uncommon occurrence then either. The site got shut down for it's constant repeated trolling attacks and how often it's member's behavior resulted in police action.

So, the previously mentioned jailbait managed to find me on facebook and keeps sending me messages asking what concerts/shows I'm going to, if I've got any gallery openings ( I wish. ) and if I'd like to get coffee and share stories. I get that I can be really good at telling stories and that some people think I'm amusing, but this is getting a little annoying being followed like this. I already explained that I wasn't interested in underage girls, but that didn't seem to do a whole lot. I think I've at least gone from potential love interest, to that cool older guy who will let her hang around the college students so that's a step in the right direction.

Heh. Aw, you've got a stalker! That's adorable!

I dunno, when I was 13 or 14 all my punk rock buddies were like, 8-12 years older than me. It didn't seem weird at the time, but looking back on it… kinda weird.

A jailbait-related anecdote: my buddy Mark, who's about 9 years older than me, and was one of the aforementioned folk- I saw him a couple years ago at a show in my hometown, and he was talking to this guy (who apparently thought I couldn't hear him, even though I was standing three feet away) who said I was hot (ha!). Mark responded by putting his arm around me and sayin', "Yeah, she looks good- but ya should've seen her when she was 14! Damn!" For all I know (which is more than I care to) he's still goin' after the underage girls. One of these days I'm gonna make some friends that aren't total scumbag creeps. I swear.

I had my first day of work today. It seems like a great place to work, really laid back, nice people (just four counting me), nice atmosphere. I'm only worried that I won't be good enough. I'm so rusty on giving presentations and story telling and teaching, and now I'm going to be the education/PR person for the park. It's a little scary.

Of course, today we just watched videos (bloodborne pathogens, how to clean a bathroom, the dangers of bees and ants…) and filled out paperwork. I found out I'm going to need a VA driver's license (I moved to this state just last summer), so I have to go to the DMV on my first "day off."

I was offered housing if I need it. A civil war plantation house in the park was taken as a temporary union base during the battle that took place there. Now it's just a landmark in the park with rooms available to employees that need them. If I was to stay there, I would be alone (maybe some ghosts o_0) in a giant house. All of that sounds neat, but no cable, no AC, and dial-up internet makes me think my half-hour commute is worth the price of gas money.
