Front gear cable on my bike just broke and I don't have enough time to get a new one and fix it before work!

We finally have a working kitchen …
… well, sort of.
The one outstadning issue is that whoever made the duct hole for the previous rangehood cut through the wall's cross bracing … and it's a load bearing wall. So there's some work to be done there. But, apart from that, we have a kicthen.  It only took 2 and a 1/2 months to do.  I'll post pictures if anyone is remotely interested.

wow… for me the definition of a "kitchen" would be a cooler full of food and a canned gas powered stove.  Though you wouldn't want to set that kitchen up in a place full of flammable vapors…

It'll be a while 'til I get that Iconia A100 tablet.  I like the size mostly.  It's not bulky like those 10" tablets, though it does suffer a bit as a result.  Now if only I can find a stylus that works with it, though if I find a line drawing program I'll be satisfied with that…

Luckily for me there are no "rabid" Ipad fans here…. you know.. those who will accuse me of betraying myself, the DD community, and humanity as a whole for buying an Android powered tablet…

Kitchen … those are bottles of bubbly to celebrate the almost finished status. That strange piece of taped cardboard on the wall is the load bearing hole that needs to be fixed. The tiles we laid ourselves, and are heated (but not under the cupboards or pantry).

That's not a kitchen
It's a work of art!

How stylish and elegant! You simply MUST have some fashionable dinner parties in there, the men in black tie and dinner suites, the women in cocktail dresses.

My Week so far:
.
about 4-5 weeks ago when my Intro to Java course started, I was told to download the Java Development Kit… I attempted to but the download glitched and not too surprisingly when I went to uninstall it to reinstall it it glitched again. I managed to get my computer to download a copy and start reading my java programs I wrote by altering the path but then I started getting registry errors on any application I had which used java (like most applications seem to).
.
So I spent about 5 hours rewriting the registry by hand before I found a program which was highly rated and meant for this issue which said that it would fix it all with a click of a button and all I would have to do is redownload my java internet plug ins and I'd be golden (yay!) and it worked just like it said but when I went to reinstall the java plugins that it said were missing it started complaining about how they were already on my computer and refused to uninstall them so I could reinstall them. Well that was a pain so I figured "Hey! If I reinstall my browsers maybe that will solve the problem!" But then after reinstalling Google Chrome it's now giving me an "Aw Snap!" page for EVERY SINGLE PAGE I LOAD! Including the settings page I would supposedly need to get to to fix this problem.
.
So after discussing all day with my more tech savy friends I'm now trying to move all my more pertanent files over to an external harddrive so I can send my laptop back to factory default. Sadly this PROBABLY means I'm going to lose my copy of CS4 which is… painful but my laptop is deteriorating so fast right now that I don't know what else to do O_o
.
I would shoot my laptop right now but I can't afford another one

Before you blow your hard drive clean, go back and see if you have a restore point set to a time before you downloaded the Java stuff. If you're running Windows Vista, 7 or any Mac platform your computer should have been automatically creating restore points for you every so often. It'll mean you have to redo anything that you've created in the time since, but you should be able to save copies of those files before you do it anyway and you can sit down with your prof and explain what happened and get them to help you figure out what's going on before you have to go through extreme measures. Any more, a complete hard drive nuking is the absolute last resort that you shouldn't have to go to unless you've completely f**ked the system files.

I'm back. And don't worry. I saved copies of all pertanent files on an external harddrive. The main problem was that the CS4 was lent to me by a friend who had a copy with 20 lisences on it. Unfortunately she's in the middle east right now and personally I'd feel embaressed to ask her for more. I had no idea how far back to go because the corrupted file was the first version of java I ever downloaded and this laptop's over 2 years old. The good news though is that my laptop seems to be running better than ever as I really took the time to make sure I downloaded the support software properly first before getting to the fun stuff. I was also kind of happily surprised to see that google chrome saves your preferences and bookmarks based on account not computer. That saves me hours of reorganizing!
.
(Not that I'm ignoring your advice Ibla, believe me this was pretty much a last resort for me… but I started the wipe about an hour after my post so I didn't get to see your response sadly)
.
Ah well, here's to doing things better this time!

MLG anybody?
I went yesterday (Saturday) and DAYAMN was absolutely amazing!
I'll see if I can get some pictures later. In addition to the games going on, I also got to try out Heart of the Swarm. Any SCII players? HotS adds a new play style or two, and is pretty fun in its current unbalanced form.

And then the games…OH MAN THE GAMES. I lost my voice from screaming. It's still going on today, but I'm not going - yesterday was insane, and I don't have a ride today to Aneheim, but damn was it worth it!

If it makes you feel better, I've started drawing.  It's been 30 years since I last attempted to draw anything (about the time my art teacher told me I couldn't draw). I'll post some of the results as an occassional comic in the coming months. If nothing else it should make others feel good about their own art :-)

@Call Me Tom -

I hope you don't mean that! You're very good at that thing you do! An underappreciated series, is Todd Sweets! All it needs is…more. More pages. More, I say!

@Gunwallace -

Good for you! But if you become a double threat, you'll have to be destroyed. Sorry!

I feel good today. Things are looking up, sorta.

Gonna enjoy that. :-)

There are people who are can do anything and just their attempt gains praise and the admiration of many.  There are others whose effort and genius is nearly on a par with the Sistine Chapel and not get any notice for one reason or another and everyone surrounding them find themselves on a constant quest to continue ignoring their work.

Then there are time when you can't open your mouth without someone vociferously disagreeing with you regardless of evidence, logic or any reason at all.

Of course none of this may actually be true, but it certainly seems that way at times. And it is that perception that is at fault and not the rest of the world.  But it is so much easier to blame the world than to change oneself.

 So very, very true!
Most of the problems we have with other people are actually our own issues
- Not just that old chestnut of hating in others what you secretly hate about yourself, but seemingly everyday stuff like:

Person A: "Person B just doesn't show as much interest, return as much affection (etc) as I do. They're so cold and frivolous"

Person B isn't at fault in that case at all, they are who they are, the problem is with Person A and why they have made up those expectations that Person B has failed to live up to.

I don't know if that's the best example, but it does work when you think it through. When you have jealously issues, or anxiety about how others are responding to you and so on, it helps to turn things around. Instead of thinking that others have the problem, realise that it actually comes from you.
I got to thinking that when someone was complaining about being a "nice guy" and how girls take advantage of him, and "freind zone" him etc, and he blamed all women for that.
Logically he's not actually a "nice guy" at all in that case… It's easy to extrapolate from there.

Another instance is where there was a post on Facebook about a article this woman wrote about all men being "Schroedinger's Rapist" when they approach her (a logically misapplied analogy*), because she doesn't know weather they're going to attack her or not and she gives advice to all men about approaching females in a "non-rapey" way…
Obviously the issue was within herself, not an entire gender.

*Schroedinger's Cat IS a cat, the species in NOT in doubt, only its mortality, therefore "Schroedinger's Rapist" IS a rapist; this is why it's misapplied. An attempt to be intellectually pithy utterly fails.
Regardless of the fatuity with the name, the real problem lies in externalising one's own insecurities and neurosis onto the world in general, applying a filter or veil of insanity. This can only affect that individual negatively.

I know, it seems impossible. But I was on DD while I was still living in america, and I left in 2009. CRAZY. Never was queensland, however. Always been a New South Welshman. I'm digging the new layout, btw. The little icon of the duck is still there which is good. Although I can't find where that quail's gone off to?

wow… logged off Star Trek Online in the middle of some chat… between Aussies and Kiwis.  I know it's supposed to be a "friendly" rivalry, but it gets passionate sometimes.  Heh… I guess that's what happens when both are couped up on a space station…

So
much work to do. Participating in two classes each with big projects,
reading, discussions, etc. Add in a part time job, studying for my
insurance license, hobbies, and housework…there isn't enough hours in a
day or days in a week…
