I'm trying to work out what the best theme for DD in this state should be:
-1. Survivors of a zombie apocalypse.
-2. Red Dwarf, Season 1, after Lister wakes up to find that he's the only human left alive.
-3. Mad Max 3, Beyond Thunderdome, where the survivors fight for megre resources in what's left of the ruins of society. :)
Ooh, can it be a Twilight Zone theme? There are like a hundred post-apocalyptic/only-human-left episodes. And then every time I post I can hum the theme song. I think that would be good motivation for posting.

Speaking of old sci-fi, I've started watching the original Star Trek series. I was hooked after about two episodes. Love it.

I think I'm going to be lonely come autumn - I work just about every evening, while my dad and little sister are off at work/school during the day. I'll only really see them on Saturdays.

I feel "homesick" for my holiday life back in the states. In order  to counteract this pervasive and debilitating nostalgia I'm going to try and ratchet up my comic making in order to distract my mind away from it. :)
Hopefully that should get me back to making stuff again, now that I have a lot less to do at DD!

Uh, oh… well… I guess I shouldn't say anything if a fanservice Pinky T.A. comic shows up where she's going on the same vacation her creator went to.  :)

I've been floating between here and   the other site recently, much like a few others I notice.
This isn't really the place for it but I have mentioned it on get satisfaction before.

Forum colours, altough i am managing to tolerate them, just.
Lack of mail alerts, or is it quack alerts.
Updates in general, it is very easy to miss comics updating.
Stats, or lack of.
Overall i fell less connected with the readers now, it is harder it interact with them.

How did you get aline break in there?
That other site must have a more actove community too or else I'm sure at least some more people'd still be here… Unless they've all gone off to facebook, twitter, google+ etc.
Anyway, yeah, those things need fixing here badly.

I've had a cold since I got back from the USA, it's STILL not better. Very sore throat. Sometimes it gets a bit better, other times it's bad, like now. Soooo tired and weak.

It's about 12 hours until the anticipated first pint of the weekend.

Now, I'm toying with the idea of a Guiness, but I might go with a Hobgoblin.

I hope that means they are hard at work fixing all the problems already pointed out to them.

Welcome back Oz to DD.  I can't say welcome home, because you are home as opposed to on holiday even though your holiday took you close to my home.

Sorry I couldn't make it but I got the message exactly in time to have run out of my house to try to get there which wasn't happening as I was looking at my email in my underwear after rolling out of bed.

And now my employer has really bad timing.  You see if I don't fill in for the guy constantly calling out no one can.  I'm not going to be manipulated like that.  Get another person, kiddies that's leadership, not calling my sorry ass every day to cover for some dope who shouldn't be working anymore and doesn't tell anyone he's not cming in until the last possible moment.
So I have to just drop my entire life because you don't have the good sense to make proper contingency plans?  Oh wait I'm the contingency plan?  Sorry but that ain't good enough because I lose all respect for an employer who can't plan past 1+1=1.  Something is wrong there…
Imagine my having the gumption to make plans to spend time with my family rather than dropping everything the moment I get a phone call to come in.

Thanks Bravo and Lothar :)

Actually New York felt a lot like home. The people were way nicer in LA (and especially San Diego) and a bit in New Orleans, but NY city really did feel very homely and comfortable for some reason.

Most people I came across daily in New York mostly were non-native new Yorkers and they were the grumpiest, sour faced, rude people! Whereas native New Yorkers tend to be ok people- not as immediately helpful and NOT openly gregarious as West Coast Americans, but still nice enough and quite polite when you approach and talk to them, generally.

Most New York taxi drivers are either Indian or African and almost none of them know the city. As a tourist from outside the country you find yourself knowing the streets better, routinely having to direct these non-English speaking taxi drivers via Google maps with your GPS enabled smart-phone because they don't have a freaking clue where on earth they are or what country they're in. At least it seems that way.

Interestingly, the typical facial expression of the resident but non-native New Yorker is best described as "I-can-smell-shit-right-under-my-nose", at all times. It's almost always a pose though since you can make them smile and grin pretty easily.

Good to know! Hopefully something good will come out of it. It makes me so sad to see DD so… slow and abandoned :\

Well Lawrence said he'd post something about it somewhere… Not here or anywhere yet?
OK, I'll give it another day and then I'll just post about it :)

Thanks Skool for the tip about using a space to get a line break! ^_^

I'm busy colouring my latest page of Pinky TA. I really wish these didn't take as long as they do, but they do. And when I finish this page I'm going to see about making a nice new site for Pinky TA (NON-hosted)- of course I'm keeping DD but my Pinky TA domain will point to a different site.
It's basically so I'll have total control and can set up all my PW ads again etc so I won't be getting anoyng e-mails about them being down anymore like I have been for the last month. :(

Should be fun to do actually. I do love a bit of web design work occasionally! ^_^

I'll leave Lawrence to say as much as he likes, but we did wait the weekend for him and I know people have been waiting for information.

Unfortunately Wowio is operating under severe financial constraints right now. A number of (generally unavoidable) things have happened all at the wrong time for them recently and as a result they've had to pretty much put everything on hold starting a few weeks ago. So there won't be any developments to the site until they can get that sorted. We've been assured that DD is a very high priority for them and they have big plans for improving it, but they can't do any of them right now. Lawrence can't really estimate when they will either. Sorry guys, I know it sounds bad, and it's not the best news with the site still somewhat incomplete right now. I wish it was different and I'm sure the people at Wowio wish it was too- talking to Lawrence was pretty difficult because we could tell how horrible and stressed he feels about it. There is some other stuff going on too but I don't know if I can talk about it. I should mention that Kinh (srhdt) has left Wowio for now, and as he was the main communicator it is likely there won't be as much Wowio presence on getsatisfaction etc.

People are still posting pages, working on community projects, and checking out their favorites even though it seems a bit slow here because of the forum inactivity (and admittedly some comics have left during the changeover.) We still have a pretty great site here. The core elements of the site work fine (if some things less preferably than before) and Oz and I will continue to admin the site, do features, etc. since there is always a need for that.  I suppose what people decide to do right now will depend on their level of tolerance for the current issues which need resolving and how much faith they have that things will pick up again soon.  I'm personally convinced that as soon as they are able to get back to DD, they will, but I know that other people's situations, priorities and information may differ greatly from my own.

I was in a fender bender this morning.  This time no one was hurt, so that's good – but the $$$$ and the no-car-until-they-put-the-bumpe-back-on has me bummed out.
 —
Wow – Wowio.  That's pretty sobering, skool, but thanks for sharing the news.  Does anyone have access to "the code"?
I still have to wonder how big a deal it is to replace the code of this yolk-yellow with whatever the code is for Luminous's blue.  It seems like a small change, but the impact could be big.

Also, I was holding off on suggesting this because I didn't want to advocate for "making do" when things should have been handled properly from the start, but since we're in a miasmic situation of indeterminate length, maybe we users should make a thread for ourselves of new site "band-aids" – things wey've discovered to get around problems.

For example, skool's tip about enter-space-enter to create a line space when creating a post.  Mine would be, everytime you come to the site, check your "personal quacks" to see if you received one, since we won't have an alert for sometime.  If there's a third, then we're thread-worthy.
 —
I'm still working on the radio play – one last voice to receive (and I think that'll be coming in within the day or so) and then the pages.  Reminder to volunteers:  this is an ongoing project, so I really hope you'll still send in your artwork!

And Genejoke, I remember I promised you a little story.  It'll be on its way as soon as I get the recording "sewn" together.

It's not actually THAT small, we were analysing that image on the call with Lawrence and comparing it to the current. There's actually several elements whose colors have changed: the duck "green," the light yellow bounding box, the inner yellow content boxes, the various header texts (thread title, 'body of reply' etc), the buttons, and the text within the posts (darker and it seemed bolder). All of those stylesheet elements are used elsewhere on the site so it depends on whether Lawrence will be able to modify the stylesheet to create a forum-specific style and the forum page template code to incorporate the new style tags, or risk changing the style sitewide. He did say he'd see what he could do, we did try to make the case for the importance of a more readable forum and he seemed pretty understanding.

I understand – not a straight "search-and-replace" option.

OK.  I'm wondering if changes might be attacked one color at a time.  For example, as much as I hate this dark yellow, go first for a text color change throughout:  blue to black.  I'm suggesting that because the black is generally better for readability, and aesthetics can be tweaked later.

Then my guess is to tackle the yolk yellow.  The light yellow as a highlight, imo, is not the worst element of the scheme.

I find this new info pretty depressing to be honest.

Company financial problems rarely gets sorted quickly, so we might be stuck in this Duck limbo for months to come. We "Duckers" are used to seeing site updates go wrong and get delayed but this one felt perticularly grim. I'm gonna hope for the best but…damn.
