I'll admit that I made a ComicFury account. I'll admit that CF will probably be the main site with DD being the mirror for any comics I may start. I won't be leaving though. The people are cool, I like the friends I've made here (you guys are my friends right?), and I like several of the comics here. If everyone leaves and takes their comics with them, then I'll leave, but until that happens I'll stay.

Oh and I just got a hold of a couple of missile destroyers in Homeworld. Muahahahahaha, come here little scouts, Uncle Salsa's got a special treat for yooooOOOOooooouuuuu.

It's true - the DD community was always the best part about the site. And now they are the best part about the other site! (If you don't count the other equally great parts).

Websites and forums are not something anyone should be loyal to one way or the other. It's like being a "loyal" S-mart shopper as opposed to K-mart or Wal-mart. Which store has the best selection and price for what I am looking for today
Only true if you don't think about friends and community, like Ayes says.

I remember the real big issue DD had in its history, the biggest:
Back in the end of 2005/start of 2006 when the site was wiped away totally. There was no backup then… The site had already been frozen for a few months before with no ability to update comics at all. All we had was a forum, that's all.
Then after the site was totally wiped, again there was the forum- first ting to come back.
Volte6 said he didn't have the heart to start again. He was devastated. He'd have to start from scratch because ALL his code was gone.
All us DD creators came back to the forums, we all posted about where we were hosting off-site, most of us were self hosting then… But our community used the forum to stay in touch, it was quite beautiful. :)

With enough of us there though and all the encouragement we gave him, Volte6 took heart and decided to start again- and so DD has continued without ever suffering anything as massive as that again. That's right, with all the issues, bugs and problems we've had since, nothing compares to the fall of 05-06. That recent event might have if Lawrence hadn't been there to heroically save us, but because of him, it didn't.

Anyway, yeah, even if it ends up with only 5 or 6 active members on the DD forums, the site will still carry on and probably snowball again with more new people… and sometimes even older members who return.

That awkward moment when you make a Comicfury account and go onto the forum to introduce yourself and then about 10 DDer's say: "WELL HAI THAR!"

Hahaha I didn't realise there were quite so many DDers on Comicfury…

It's probably because the negative connotation DD carries throughout the webcomic community is finally starting to make sense to people here. Man, I jumped ship before it was cool.

I find it funny that the Drunkduck rant thread is talking about comicfury while the comicfury rants thread talks about drunkduck. :P

And yet…? This isn't Comic Fury ya know ;)

There ARE other hosts you know- Comic Genesis, Wevolt, Spider Forest, Comic Dish, Comic Domination, Webcomics nation, ComicSpace… and more.

It's a fact of life, I think. Sometimes people need to spread their wings, see new places, meet new people. Some eventually come back though, having missed the comforts of home. :)

I'm bored.

Comic Genesis: Are they still using the same sign up from 1999? Where you have to wait a week for the email link to manually be sent to you?

Wevolt: *snrk* hahahaha.

Spider Forest: More of a collective, invite/submission only.

Comic Dish: totally ballz. dont go their.

Comic Domination: I haven't heard of this one… But then I haven't been host hunting lately.

Webcomics nation: They've been around a while, but they were difficult to set up on and configure the last I tried them.

ComicSpace: Isn't that just loaded with spam now?

Yeah, I'm just using CF for a mirror, its good, but not overly great. I actually like Drunkduck a whooooole lot more, but I was just mentioning that were was an awful lot of people I recognised from the forums here, which was cool, I wasn't trying to start any problems about it.

Though if push came to shove, I'd probably still choose DD because I love the community here and the whole interaction between users and the admins in things such as the Quackcast and community projects like Ayes' Radio Play (How is that going by the way?)

What I like about it is the guy who runs the show is right there, always tinkering with the site and open to suggestions. I mentioned something to him once and an hour or so later it was coded. It's the absolute antithesis of what we're undergoing now - more like DrunkDuck used to be in the days Ozone was describing above I imagine.

I bet this guy actually keeps backups though.

And of course Ozone fails to mention that DD only allowed 1 upload a day back then unless you were a paying member.

Yeah I just discvered that, haha he found my post on here where I said CF was "Good but not great" and wanted to know how he could fix it pretty much five minutes after I posted.

I agree that DD is still a bit better. Provided the community bounces back from this. Right now it's a LOT more vacant here than usual in the forums.

Kyo really is on the ball though. Did you tell him what you liked better about DD? I wonder if he'd like to know what I liked better? In the end it's mostly opinions though.

Nah, I told him some navigation issues I was having the site. Said that maybe the ability to embed youtube videos on the fourms like on here might nice, but I didn't really preach on about it though. I got the impression he was desperate for feedback, but I'm so computer illiterate I doubt I helped in anyway.

Okay… I've got an account on there now, but I won't do any "official" introduction (in other words I'll be lurking) 'til I've got a comic on there. I'm going to put a new comic up on CF… an "adult" comic about a guy who's shipwrecked on an island… full of women… And if you think he's going to have every guy's dream, there's just one problem. He's Erotophobic. Um… Go look that up if you don't know what that word means… :)

Or maybe not… yet… I need a plastic eraser. Or I'll just have to wait 'til I can buy a new tablet. :)

*sees the look of dread, anger, and hate on people's faces after his post…*

O… kay…. I'll have to use stealth on this one…

Ugh… or maybe I'll just use my Magiversity related idea about this young mage who keeps visiting other webcomic universes and having weird adventures in them… and is being pursued by an enigmatic universe traveller who's really ticked off that she's making him do a lot of work… :)

How about those that want the forums to bounce back make a concerted effort to breath some life back into it? It's not so easy when people aren't posting but the more activity there is the more newbies are likely to get involved.

Heh… I've had people mad at me for even drawing nude people in a comic. Usually the people looking over my shoulder. And sometimes I get angry emails about it too. ugh…

oh, no…

I'm listening to Lovely Day by Bill Withers, and suddenly a dirty parody of the song pops into my mind… let's just say it involves a bit of… well… um…. just replace the words "Lovely Day" in the original song with the word "ma*****ate"… O_O

I guess living alone and being single ends up getting my brain into the gutter… O_O

Seriously? :/ That is pretty lame.

I'd post more on the forums, but I have crushingly low self esteeme and can never think of anything to say that is remotely clever or thought provoking in anyway.

No, that was pre-crash. Post crash after Volte6 rebuilt there was of course no paying features in the site :)

Kyo… that name is familiar. Isn't he the one that tried to hack DD all those years ago? The script kiddie?
I don't think he likes DD very much :)

Big awful headache. -_-
Man this is a busy week. I haven't been able to get any drawing done since Monday. On Tuesday I decided to sew in front of the TV and actually WATCH what is on tv for once:
What a massive load of crap. The ads every two seconds really ruin your concentration… Family guy was on a lot and I forgot how awful that show is. They had some American Dad too though, which is a much better show.

I think next time I sew in front of the TV I'll put on some DVDs as usual.

I'm glad I BUY my TV episodes via my XBox 360. 27 episodes of The Universe, several episodes of TOS and Enterprise Star Trek, and a few miscellaneous stuff… and no commercials to get in the way. Too bad I can't setup a playlist to play them all one after the other. :(

Wait… we paid for features precrash? I guess I don't remember because I had signed up and put Magiversity on DD a few months before the crash. And me being the idiot back then didn't have backups of the comic. Which was a good thing, since I decided to redraw the comic and redo the story.

If it IS the same guy, I wouldn't worry too much, but I'd be careful to use a unique password for the account there and not enter too much personal info or anything.
Wait… we paid for features precrash? I guess I don't remember because I had signed up and put Magiversity on DD a few months before the crash.
Before the crash you could pay for some special features- like more than one update and some other things… it was about $11 a year. No one else was allowing any of that stuff then so it was a good deal.
But since then most sites have copied DD's template and added new stuff while this site has been in stasis since Plat left us mothballed.
That's why we NEED that new version of the site finished; so we CAN have new features, better speed and updates. Regardless of the no HTML editing, weird forums and extra ads, it'll still be way better than it is now.

I just want the change to happen and damn the detractions. Been waiting too long.
The way it stands right now is that the change will only happen once Lawrence is sure that everything people want is all on the new site.

Thanks for the heads up, Oz!

Gods, plural. Bit of a giveaway. Quite amusing though.

I tend to avoid comics that ram things down your throat though, Mag-isa excluded though that is somehow captivating, mostly due to Kyupol's rants. I may not agree with him but it's intriguing. I was working on a fairly political and social comic but it's fallen by the wayside for now. It wasn't a statement so much as an exploration of ideas, maybe someday.
