I kinda wonder now…

What if several members of Drunkduck came together to form an independent video game development company?  It's just something that's been on my mind since I mentioned it last.

Funny thing is… I have no idea how to manage a company, let alone put one together.  I do know a tiny bit about video game design…  I used to make games using my old Klik n Play program (and I still have the disc… which still works).  Now I'm finding myself relearning how to do it, starting with the artwork.

But what if we had a team of DDers create such a group?  What would it be called?  And which major digital game thing would we use to distribute our games?  Steam?  Amazon?  GoG???

There is quite a bit of talent here, so artwork and story would be easy to come by.  Music might be a problem.  And it could be a gamble, which I think is one strength of the Indie developer compared to AAA companies, who prefer to stick with tried and true formulas and create sequels rather than take a risk on a new IP.  A Drunkduck Indie Game Development company could be a runaway success… or will burst into flames without even taking off…

And I wonder what Platinum will say about this…

But those are just thoughts.  I figure I'll just put it out there instead of holding them in and just speculating what could happen…

@OzoneOcean: I haven't been posting as often as I would like because I am spending all of my free time on OK cupid, trying to get a date…

@ozone: I'm always here, just silently! Stupid non-mobile-friendly site. It's not even really that bad, but the slight inconvenience of posting from my phone almost always overpowers my motivation to say whatever stupid stuff I wanted to say.

The forums have been quiet lately.  We just need to attract more people to it somehow.  I'm seeing lots of Devon Legacy ads when I look at DD at the moment.

I hate being on call during my days off.  It didn't help that last Wednesday I ended up in the Jury Selection Panel.  We were supposed to be deactivated at the end of last April, but for some reason our active term (the time where we call in after 5pm to see if we have to come in) keeps getting extended.

I hope we don't get extended again.  I'm not happy having to call after 5pm every day.  Also, last Wednesday lasted so long I had to call out from work.  And as "punishment", the boss doesn't fire us, but gives us an extra day off.  T_T

Forum has a lot to do with it. It's hard work to use and takes commitment to post here. We need a new forum that's as post friendly as others, with the widget at the bottom to tell you who's online. Just a little thing like that makes a big difference because you'll think "Aha - Bravo is here right now - I'll post that great tank related youtube link" whereas if you decide to post it later, it won't happen.

I'd go so far as to say the current state of the forum is having a negative effect on the community. I can see no other reason why people are living in a state of constant paranoia elsewhere, when they could be using this easy going and relaxed hangout.

Same. It seems really difficult for me to post here. Like mentally. It's like one of the worst inviting forums you could ever see from functionality. Which also brings down the number of people posting and that contributes to the whole not posting as well. It's all a big cycle.
But at least I can still read threads here without wanting to pull my hair out.
Wait. I just mouse overed the Soul Eater NOT! ad and it interacted! I didn't know that was possible in PW! O_O

And that is the worst thing that can happen because first dates are so much worse and harder to work than just rejection.

Hmmm, if you mean flat out rejection then yeah I guess so. If you don't really know someone and they reject you, no great loss  what's worse is having first dates but not second ones. a year ir so back i dated a lot. it was an interesting time.  I had a lot of first dates, a few second dates and some more.  But the ones that bothered me the most were the first dates that went well but not fantastically and on every single one I would get a text saying you're nice but…  it got tiresome after a while.

Interesting idea. The obvious caveats is that none of us would know what to do, and as we are all part-timers with comics anyway it would be hard to put in the hours needed.

This forum is very user unfriendly.  Sometimes I feel like I have to beat the post into the thread and then wait for a broken bone to heal before it says there are no new posts in that forum.  Wait didn't I just post?  Oh yeah glitch # 35678.  And there's glitches #1000-20000 with spacing, quotes and nearly everything else dealing with writing posts.

Conversely I hate those "who is on line" lists on message boards. I don't like real time messaging. I like having the time to read stuff and think about what I'm going to reply and go through 22 re-writes before posting.  In real life I sort of stammer and use lots of connection words because I don't think clearly and cxan be extremely self-conscious and be at a loss for words. Something I can hide on a message board.  Though my incredible talent for saying stupid things remains intact.

I totally get what you're saying, but I don't see the who's online widget as an urgent call to arms. It's just nice to see who's around and maybe think about a leisurely reply. Obviously we're going to light our pipes while we consider a response and probably pour ourselves a stiff drink before the third rewrite is done.

Just returned from the NYC gay pride parade, where I cried the whole time. After 3000 years of hell, I still can't believe that I am participating in the dawn of the post-patriarchal era in my lifetime.

it's a step on a long journey, but a milestone nonetheless.  I've seen a fair few hateful posts around the internet as well, sadly.  I guess that was inevitable.

The thing with the forums would be to replace this one with a premade forum setup, try and make it fit the theme here a bit so it doesn't stand out too odly and try and make it so that sign-ups from the normal DD system transfer to the new forum.
Meanwhile this one would be archived and available on a link. -comic subforums would still work through this current forum without changes.

Congrats on the gay marriage thing in the US. We're still not there in Australia yet.

I'm pretty confident I could make that except for the userbase already being attached. Though I MIGHT be able to link it to the DD database if it's built similar. And since it uses MySQL I'm sure it is. I just wish I had more time. Now with summer vaction kids around I have LESS!!! :(

Whoo Hooo! Pinky TA default skyscraper ads on the main page.

It is starting to feel like Drunk Duck circa early 2007 up in here!

What, you got something against Devon Legacy?!!! >:-(

It's just nostalgic feelings, that's all.

When I first joined Drunk Duck, Pinky TA was ranked in the top ten list on the main page and Pinky's arse plastered/wallpapered/appeared on several of the PW ads throughout the site.

I take it we can't use the old forums that were here when I first joined up?

As far as I recall, Volte's original code was completely dephlogisticated and everything was remade from scratch. Does the original forum even exist anymore?

No, the original code is gorn…
But DD has had a few different forums over its time. Volte coded the site from scratch but the forum was just off-the-shelf code. He customised the last  ersion of the forum a bit from its original specs, but it was still a basic normal forum nder that.

So, what I'm saying is that a somewhat ordinary, standard forum here on DD would be pretty much like what we used to have :)

Important.
The site will be down on the early hours of Saturday Morning US time as I resize our disk allocation and then move us to a cheaper hosting plan. It should not take more than a couple of hours.

It's not even cooling down after dark. I hate it when it's like this and your arm sticks to the wacom. At least there's a nice moon and a Venus/Jupiter conjunction to look at.

I didn't realize June 30th had one extra second added at the end of the day. Just heard about that last night. Could've worked on a DD assignment if I'd been ready.

Instead, I used the extra time to catch up on housework.

So that's what that was, I just thought time was dragging a little more slowly than usual.
