It's amazing how a supertyphoon here can affect weather in far off parts of the world.  I'm reading about how the current supertyphoon Soudelor has the potential to shift the jet stream that affects the United Kingdom and how winter will be different due to the supertyphoon shift the jetstream south… as in more storms over there.

Too bad we can't just dump huge ice cubes into the Pacific to cool it down…

It's the press who act as if crimes goes up all the time, when in reality that's rarely the case.
Also, in the US by far most crime of eery type are committed by "white" people. Blacks in the US tend to get harsher sentances for the same crimes- things that wouldn't send a white guy to jail can end up with the b;ack person's entire life ruined or even them being shot by the arresting officer.
I would say racial profiling does not work.
It's not so much the media as politicians and police using the media to get people to get them more money and mroe power.  You only think stop and frisk didn't work because of what side of the media you're on.  The other side screams and rants to the media too and we choose sides.  And the truth on the street? It does work and it's damn unfair and it sucks but it does work.

Assaults and murders are up as is robbery. Um what crime went down since the new mayor took over? Arrests are down, not crime. The statistics are misleading as are those for "whites" commit the most crime.  Of course they do! They're the great majority of the population it's per capita crime based on the percentage of population.  But of course that can be skewed by who is counting and that whites are given a slpa on the wrist and told not to do it again whereas blacks get prison sentences.  There are compelling data and evidence from all sides.  You can't just trust the UN and Amnesty International there's also the FBI and various law enforcemtn agencies and average them against each other.

But then being right in the middle of it maybe my perception is skewed and you are right.

Both sides are wrong but what works? It's a stinking rotten business but what gives the best result as far as victims go?  Or should we be more concerned with criminals? These aren't bad little boys in the corner in kindergarten.  These are some nasty rude fucks.  Some change themselves and otehrs spiral down and become totally desensitzed to destroying and using whatever isn't US as opposed to NOT US.

hey you got room in your house for me to move in?  Australia would be great. Maybe come back in November of 2016 in time to vote and not have to listen to anything about the election until then.

We're on the same side of the world.  I'm a couple thousand miles north of you and it's HOT over here.  Then again, you're south of the equator so that may have something to do with it…

In fact, the Pacific Ocean is pretty hot at the moment and I reckon we have a year or two of this El Nino thing before I can stop worrying about super typhoons showing up in my back yard.

I was reading up on Scott Cawthon (the Christian creator of the Five Nights at Freddy's video games) and it seems he gets a lot of hate.  And apparently there are people who hate him simply because he's a success.  Why do people hate success?  I mean… we aspire to it and pursue it, but the moment someone else finds it most of us admire that person.  But for some people that success is the reason to hate that person and sometimes that hate is passionate.  Is it the logical thing to do?  Is it just something that we humans experience?  Maybe I'm thinking too much into it…

While I'm mentally aware of the differences in the hemispheres, actually being in cold weather in August would freeze my brain I think!!  We hiked a trail yesterday at 5:00 pm in the evening…!  Even that late the heat was like an oven - I think Hell is cooler!!

Some parts here have actually snowed o_O
It's typically a light dusting, like icing sugar on a donut, but people go crazy about it… I just remeber pics I've seen of the US in winter and laugh at my fellow aussies. :D

Heeeey, I won two antique swords in a big Ebay auction!  This wasn't a normal Auction… welk it WAS a normak auction, but not normal for Ebay. It was online bids for a real auction that was taking place at West Point military academy I think. It too forever to get through to the sword I had scoped out! I did the whole quackcast  editing and notes AND the featured comic for the week while I waited.

I finally POUNCED when my sword came up and got a great bargin on a slightly damaged 1796 light cavalry sabre- though I am fairly certain it's an 1811 Blücher model. And an even better bargen on a nice 1911 German sabre. Other swords were going for thousands. One old viking Ulfbert went for over 9k!
Both of mine together only cost $400. $500 with the buyer's premium added on.

If I ever get my act together I COULD sell these at a tasty profit :D

Well, I can finally upgrade to Windows 10.  Except I won't do it right away.  I've decided to hold off on it for now.  The OS just rolled out and I'm sure there are going to be problems with it.  Like old hardware not having drivers in it, or software not working properly.

So for now, I will just wait and see what happens and hope my computer doesn't upgrade itself to Windows 10…

Windows 10 is pretty good, but if your hardware is old it might be wise to wait.  I've had no serious issues, the odd game on steam that won't load but nothing major.
Anxiety has been flailing up. Medication is mostly working now, mostly. But sleeping is hard, or rather staying asleep. I wake up with a start almost every hour and then have to relax again before doing it again and again.  Have some meds to help with that tonight… fingers crossed eh?

Melatonin. It's a hormone rather than a drug.  Even at my most anxious it allows me to fall asleep.  Ah but in the sleep what dreams may come.  My most anxious dreams are such extreme mash-ups I just wake up with a start and say WTF? Like Fast and Furious met It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World with doses of serial killers and war movies and an alien invasion all on crack.

I dreamt the other day that my lated hair style involve VERY short shaved platinum blonde hair, a blue helmet, and a fringe of fake white hair.
I hated it, it made me very anxious. - the hair, not the dream.

So then my next haistyle involve short black hair with "frosted" blonde tips. I looked like a mega douchbag.

According to Wiki, Ben Rivera is a retired professional baseball pitcher. Are times so hard you have to resort to this Ben? You should have put some aside for a rainy day instead of blowing in all on loose cars and fast women. Make hay while the sun shines Ben.

Well… dove into Windows 10.  But it looks like I dove in too soon.  I was informed that Windows 10 spys on me… even if I think I've turned those features off.  I guess a reformat is in order…

Well, I wasn't sure where the best place to drop this line was but I'll do it here!
I'm back, for real this time! And I have brought two comics with me and I have another one planned. And thanks to Ozone for helping with some technical difficulties along the way.
The first comic is Super Chibi Girl. It's sort of adventure meets sci-fi meets superhero with a side helping of romance and adrenaline! I started it in 2012 and it continues to this day. I have already uploaded 5 weeks of daily pages and I have over 50 more to add, so there will be SCG for the foreseeable future (and it buys me time  to make new pages)!
The second comic is a short comic strip experiment (27 strips total) I did while in college waaaayyyy back in 1991. It's called Joe's Generic Strip and it is about a smart but otherwise average geek who has a bit of a Jeckle and Hyde situation. At night, the geek becomes a completely different person: Matt Metalhead!
I am also planning the long overdue SEQUEL to Joe's Generic Strip!
So, exciting stuff abounds! It's good to be back!

What an unexpected surprise - welcome back to the pond! This is great news: now I can catch up on Super Chibi Girl without having to go to ,,, to go to … to…

Sorry, still suffering from a touch of PTSD. I look forward to checking out those new comics too.

It's nice to see people coming back!  :)

I guess the El Nino is also affecting my tablet's weather app.  It tells me it's raining when it's clear, and just a few minutes ago it said it was snowing in my area.  Problem is… it has never snowed here on Guam…  Next thing I know the thing will tell me that a 7+ mile wide meteor is going to smash into us…

I've come up with a whole bunch of silly planet ideas for my new comic, but one of my favourites doesn't actually make sense. I wanted to have a planet where it's always yesterday. But I've had that written in my notes for weeks now and I still can't figure out how that would work/what that means. It just sounded good.

Have a look at the Space Dandy series. I think that'd give you more of an idea how the yesterday planet could work- at least with some of the episodes. It's very creative and Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy in the way they do things in that show :)

OK, I've seen it so I'll save you the effort and think in those terms:
If it's always yesterday then perhaps people will be doing things like you would in a memory (jumping from scene to scene, wearing different stuff depending who you're talking to because they remember things differently), talking in past tense, and thinking about what they're going to do tomorrow?

————

I'm so annoyed. I spent a lot of time this weekend removing the hilt from the sabre I bought the other day. I ground down the metal backstrap and filed the wooden grip down to size… That all went swimingly!
But then I went to work with the nice silver antique 3 bar metal gaurd I was going to add to it. I was doing ok bending it into shape, it was hard work but I was managing… aaaand one on the bars cracked! FUCK!

I'd thought it was steel with sliver plating. Steel doesn't crack like that. It's not brass with silver on top… so then with my limited knowlege of metals and alloys I thought it must be solid sterling silver: It smells like silver it tarnishes like silver, and it looks like silver (silver with a slightly pearly yellowness in tone).
Unfortunately I think what it ACTUALLY is, is "nickel silver", "Alpaca", or "German silver", which is a clever mix of nickel and coper with no silver in it at all.

So it's going to be hard to fix and has no value at all apart from being antique… and I've endangered even that my damaging it.
Wha annoys me though is that I really wanted to put it on my sword. Now unless I can find someone who can work with this stuff and fix it I'm out of luck :(

Indeed!
I contacted both an artsy silversmith AND the artschool where I used to teach to ask for a metal sculptor.
They're asking around for me at the artschool and one name has been mentioned but that's about all.

The silversmith got back to me, gave me some advice and suggested I come down to her studio. She's only open from 11 to 3 though so it'll be hard to make the time, but it looks like a good option.
I miiiight be able to work on it there WITH her if she's got the right tools- She suggests I work on it with heat and that it's cracking due to the casting process it was originally made with. I haen't got anything to heat with with and even if I did I wouldn't know what I was doing.

Thank you! That gives me a great idea of how I can keep the original concept but make it a bit more workable - I'm thinking of a nostalgia planet now, where people endlessly relive their favourite memories without the pesky present getting in the way.

Agreed! I sometimes feel as though every modern story/film ought to have a little dedication to Rod Serling. Are you thinking of "Walking Distance," or another episode? I'm imagining it a bit differently though. More silly/nonsensical. And less good. :P
