So we had yet another massive storm with tornado force winds and lightening here in the Midwest. And that would normally be nothing special for me, just another slightly busier day at work, except for one thing: The lightening caused a power surge which burned straight through the surge protector I had ( Which wasn't as good of one as I probably should have had for such an important computer. ) when the computer activated itself to do it's nightly file cleanup and virus scan ( I don't even claim to understand how it does it, I just know my uncle set it up for me and that's what it does. ), and completely utterly trashed my desktop. It's pretty much totally fried, which leaves me with only my old desktop from 1997 which really only serves as my internet router/hub for my homes computer network. The old one doesn't even have the power to run more than one application at a time really, so if I tried to put photoshop onto it I'd probably crash it or something. So now I'm stuck trying to see if I can't salvage my desktop and save some of the files for Last Words I had on there and maybe get it back into running shape.

Granted, I was planning on getting a new computer for school this year and I have all the files on CD and all my old hard copies for them, but I've lost a good chunk of the high res images which were too big to reasonably back up on disc ( I was going to get something like 6 images to a CD. I couldn't think of a more reasonable alternative. ) and the buffer I had finally managed to create is gone so I'm being forced to put up the plain unedited inked pencils until I can sort this mess out. I'm not going to quite or stop uploading, but I'm definitely going to have to get major creative here.

The best part is though, I hardly know what the hell I'm doing working on the thing so I have to rely on going slow and getting help and advice whenever I can get it.

*headdesk*

Most likely the surge just killed the motherboard. I think that's what usually happens. You could take it and get that checked by someone who knows. get them to replace it with the same model and you won't even have to reinstall.

Plus, it's relatively easy to take out your hard drive or drives and put them in another computer, so if it's/they're ok, you'll have lost not a thing :)
-better yet; hard drive enclosures are cheap and easy to use. buy one that has the same connectors as your old HD and stick it in there. Connect it up to any comp with USB and bob's your uncle ^_^

Plus, recovery is pretty straightforward if it is damaged, but still runs.

Oh hey, I've got a great idea! I'll wait for Custard to get up, then I'll dump this pile of crap where he was sitting, and then sit in the only other place he could move it too. Then when he gets pissed off and chucks my shit on the floor because I didn't stop doing this when he actually tried to be polite about it, I'll get defensive, blame everything from this to the holocaust on him, and then demand he pick it up even I'm the one who moved it in the first place.

That's pretty much what I did, I pulled the heard drive from the newer computer and stuck it in the old one since they're pretty much the same thing as far as I know and the files were more or less all sitting right there. My buffer comics were still gone, but I can live with it since it looks like that's all I lost at this point. The other one is going in to the shop to get looked at and I'm just going to have to deal with trying to get Photoshop 7.0 to run on my older PC again instead of CS3. I'm just concerned about all those extra memory intensive files crashing the old thing before I can transfer them to a USB stick. There's something like 90 megabytes of stuff just from my comics and their related files, ignoring all my design work and my dad's architecture stuff.

All in all it sucks but at least the major crisis is averted here. Either way, I think it's time I started looking into an external hardrive or something.

New bitching would be that I've spent all night up since my last post trying to fix this since I'm only minorly computer competent in these areas and I've hit the point of overtired where I can't fall asleep and my body is about ready to collapse in on itself.

Sounds like you're ready for the Tired Comics project.

Ugh. It's summer vacation, yet, I keep getting woken up. Isn't Summer Vacation supposed to be about doing just about whatever you want? Going to bed late at night, waking up late.

:|

Apparently not.

great white brotherhood my ass!!!

Ok. So we got Jesus Christ, Buddha, and a bunch of other "ascended masters" just lounging around in another dimension waiting for the right moment to come here to liberate humanity from the evil reptoids and the new world order.

And we humans just have to do nothing.

lol! I say bullshit!!!

This is just like how some fake Christians think they're gonna be saved just by believing in Jesus even if they keep doing all kinds of un-Christian things. Same thing. Do nothing. You'd be saved.

lmao!!! WHAT A SCAM!!!

That is a long and proud tradition among military pilots. WWI pilots on the average lasted a week or so, how do you think they brought themselves to fly? Japanese pilots in WWII had that toast of sake? (plus a few more before hand…)

Insurance companies and the long lag waiting for the pre-certification for my tests and my wife announced yesterday that she wants to blow all our money on another cruise! How about a car for me! How about fixing the house, how about so many other priorites…

I think I'll channel my frustration in a positive manner and update my comic. There are some good things to be said for years of therapy for mental illness.

You suffer from mental illness?
No, I'm enjoying it.

I've just had a small sip of honey meed, my fave drink. It's so sublimely delicious, but gives me terrible twinges in my jaw near my ears -_-
Something to do with the histamines in it I wonder?

My rant, translating for my mother. Can't speak a word of english. I know it's not her fault, but it wouldn't kill her to learn some english.

So, an old family friend came to visit for the weekend and he helped me fix my computer and I'm all good to go for comics and everything. He even managed to get rid of the obnoxious "Don't eat meat!" ad someone coded into the credits for my copy of CS3 ( Which I did get legally as a download through a company my family has gotten things like CAD from, but still it ended up with that in there somehow. I think it got put in by one of their employees. ). He even let me drive his 2007 Dodge Viper at the local drag track which was an awesome time and I even won a little side bet I made with the other driver. The bad part of the night was when one of the local hotshots in a Honda tried to show off, lost control of his car and slammed it into the front end of the Viper. Now he's stuck in town for a couple more days while he gets the parts to get it repaired enough to drive home to Detroit.

The part that really sucks was that he was going to let me drive that car around town instead of my poky little Dodge Stratus sedan while he was here. It would have been SO much fun to roll up to the front of the store at work in that thing and watch the other people's jaws drop. :(

Doh >:x I'm inking & screentoning in photoshop cs2 for the first time, the inking part went great but the screentoning…has a learning curve from GIMP. It sucks because i've pretty much mastered Gimps pattern system(for sho yo) and now on photoshop it's like 'wat?'.

I suppose i'll see if it improves in a few more pages, if not i'll try color. (photoshop coloring is easycake).

so, me and my wife decided to stay together. and one of the conditions was that she gets a job, so she doesnt get board, and can be active, so she doesnt start complaining about how much the city sucks. (we're both country folk born and raised). and she got one. but they're making her work nights and weekends. which means i only get to see her right before bed and when i wake up. and now i miss her, because i'm leaving again soon, and i'm not going to get any time with her…. :(
