The internet was down for me for 24 hours on Wednesday at home. All I had was limited access through my phone, because reception in crap inside my house (it's like the walls have a faraday cage embedded in them).
It felt so irritating (as it always does), with soul deep itch… But the level of distration that was shut off was amazing.
The net is pretty insidious that way.

Maybe if I give myself limits on access I'll be more productive? Whenever I'm creating away from the computer (like sewing), I get a LOT more done.
It might even be time to go back to pen and paper… Only use the cintiq for colour and not drawing.

I hate being without internet…I wonder how long it would take to break me of the habit. Probably quite a while before I figured out how to spend my time.
My house has the same effect! There are only two places I've found in my city where I sometimes get no service at all on my phone: the very basement of the university, and my house.

It always takes me a couple days after a bad bout of anxiety to feel like myself again. It's a very weird feeling, like my brain just isn't quite my own. I went for a nice walk downtown today and I feel so much better, 100% me again. Came home and got some writing done. And check this out!

That's where I've been slowly chipping away at the total number of words I need to write before the end of this semester four days from now. Not long ago that number was 14,000. So I'm feeling pretty darn good about that. :)

You know.. and not comic.. or do anything productive.. or any of the things on 2015's to do like.
Like update comic weekly.. and not spend money.. and not drink so much.. and not buy so many clothes..and not binge on netflix..and be active..
Not spending money suuuucks. I made myself a budget starting this september based on not dipping into my savings, and man, clothes in particular are expensive. Every time I buy clothes I regret it because I end up running out of money for other frivolous things before the end of the month. Thrift stores can be good, but I find it takes so much time sifting through crap to find a few gems.

I finally manage a new schedule with weekends off. Only to find out that to my manager that means being on call to fill every empty shift.  I got called three times in two days. Never happened when I worked weekends.  Had a minor anxiety attack after the call.  Hands shaking, tearing up please I need my time off.

I can barely work five days sometimes.

I'm about five episodes in. It's fantastic. Nice and gritty, but not "hopeless" or depressing. I love the complexity of it, with all the corruption and ethics themes going on.. Top notch! Marvel brings it again!

Jeez bravo, sorry to hear that…hope you're feeling better. And I hope you said 'no' to those shifts. If ya can't do it, ya can't do it! Please take care of yourself!

Oh, that's really sucky! I hope you're feeling alright now, and that you'll get some good relaxing time in soon. Panic attacks are just the worst.

I'm just doing a final edit of my last paper! I had a bit of a crappy thing happen with my final source. It was marked as "2010" on the side and looked really new so I didn't think to check the publication date at first. Had a glance at it today and realized that it's actually a 2010 reissue of a 1969 book, which puts it way outside of my date range. I had to find a replacement source at the last minute - honestly a much less suitable one, but whaddya gonna do. My essay definitely gets progressively crappier from beginning to end as I lost motivation. Now just two exams and then done!

Also kind of exciting, I've got an interview at a museum this week! It's actually an old house that belonged to one of the original settlers here, and has been converted to a museum open during the summer months. Since it's such a small place it looks like I would get the opportunity to engage with a lot of different aspects of working in a museum - mostly interpretive stuff but also cataloguing, maintenance etc. Really hope I get it. :)

That sounds great Hippie! Too bad about the paper though. Reminds me of the features… When I check for recently updated good comics, I find a promising one, read all through it for a few hours and I'm really happy with it… I just finish writing a review and then realise that although the last page updated recently, the one before that and all the rest were done 5 years ago.

@Bravo. That sucks man. I know the feeling a little bit- when I did healthcare admin from home that feeling of being on-call all the time, contactable anywhere… When you're officially off work and supposed to have free time and they still try and call anyway it feels like such a horrible invasion.

Well this weekend was fun!
first up I went to the Comic Con here in Perth. I was dressed as Ace Kinkaid in Jodhpurs, my captain America brown leather jacket, ankle riding boots, my grandfather's WW2 canvas gaiters, and various belts and pouches… Caught the train into the city and walked all the way through dressed like that. Bianka came with me dressed in a pink wig short kimono, stockings and high boots just for fun. There were lots of people in impressive outfits. :)

I saw the actor I wanted to see-   Ben Browder from Farescape and Stargate. He was codedly asking around for some pot, but I wasn't on the ball enough to realise at the time unfortunately… I could've pointed him in the right direction. He looked good, hasn't changed much from when he did Farescape. Great show!

Later on it was time for Quackcasting! Bravo was a guest this time. Along with Pitface and Tantz. We all did vid chat afterwars too which was great. Unfortuately I stayed up way too late- 6.30am… I went out for coffee and lunch the bext day with Bianka and almost vomited during the car ride. I felt SOOOOooo sick! I had a pear and rocket salad with parmesan which settled it down a little after a while.
Actually willingly ordering salad for lunch… Never thought I'd see the day.

Hm…  Just gotta ask…  Anyone know a good graphics program for making sprites?  One that can work on a tablet so I can be designing on the go?  :)

I downloaded the Kindle app from Amazon for my tablet as well and bought a couple of books.  Namely about Clickteam Fusion and Blender 3D (y'know?  the free 3D modelling program).  Didn't know that twice the amount I spent on those books would be held by the bank, though…

Well I almost had a page for today. I forgot I needed another view of a character for the last two panels.  So I went ahead and took the pictures for the next two pages of script.

And it's 68 degrees F. here today? Wow at last I dig out the short sleeve shirt for work.

It's so annoying when people break unwritten rules/conventions because all you can do is sort of be passively aggressively annoyed with them.

Hm so I got contacted by an influential games publisher. I'm kind of glad Platinum stripped away any wide-eyed innocence i may have had towards publishers. I'm on much more even footing than many creators who learn things the hard way. (or well with some of the comics plat dealt with hard is an understatement)

I am overselling this at the moment.
It is NOT a done deal yet. But if people really want it, then is WILL be!

Okay.  Reality shows are getting weirder.  Discovery Channel now has a guy who wants to make giant swords for a living.  Oh, well… whatever works to bring in viewers, right?

If I had the money maybe I can have him make a giant ceremonial sabre.  Hm….

I got the museum job I wanted! I only just had my interview yesterday, too, so I must have impressed them. Slightly sad that I'll be spending my whole summer in the city this year, but I think it should be a good experience otherwise.

Congrats Hippie!

Oh man, I'm feeling flat and grey today. Faaaaaarrrrrrrrrkkkk… I just want to go home, watch anime and draw comic stuff. The world can go suck it.

Hey, you guys know about those super venemous snakes we have here in Australia that make cobras and rattlesnakes look like animated dildos? Well my sister's boyfriend got bitten on the ankle by one, a King Brown is what it was called.
The doc said he was very lucky it wasn't envenomed. It must have bitten something else first.
That naughty snakey! Must have been biting stuff left right and centre.

Jolly good show Hippie! I knew you'd be in for some good news this week when I saw this on the M1 approaching Watfor Gap Services.

Haha, me too! My parents took my older sister and I to Australia when I was two, and now I wonder how my dad wasn't just freaking out the whole time trying to keep us away from invisible poisonous things. (Seriously, he doesn't want my little sister to have too much IKEA furniture in her room because of the formaldehyde.)

I love the idea that I've got some sort of spiritual connection with hippie vans. They signal my presence…hearken to the sound of the wheels! For Hippie Van approaches.

I spent just about the whole day today shopping for bridesmaids dresses for my sister's wedding. And I already had mine, so I was basically just following people around for hours and hours. -_- It seems like you really ought to ask your close friends and family for permission before you get married, because on top of preventing me from studying abroad this summer it's a heck of a lot of work. Apparently I'm supposed to put together a bridal shower, sell social tickets, design the programs, etc. Plus it's expensive…bridesmaids dress, shoes, jewelry. I love my sister and all but I'm just utterly unexcited about weddings in general, so it's hard for me to feel as though any of this is anything other than work.

"Dear Abby" has someone in that situation at least every other month. What do you mean I have to put my life on hold so you can have a wasteful wedding where you're the fairy tale princess queen for a day?  You're probably not alone in the wedding party feeling that way either. At least that was my impression in the wedding parties I was shang-haied into.  But then it is so much easier for guys.  Tux fitting, rehearsal dinner, batchelor party and you're done.

Find a couple of old episodes of "Bridezilla" and realize that it could be worse.

I've always found weddings ridiculous. If the government loves them so much (tax breaks for married couples, special rules for spouces for insurance, law, inheritance, fightig gay marriage to kep it for straights and so on), then it should go the whole way and subsidise them or do public sponsored mass weddings :D

They used to do that in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. Made life so much easier.  I favor getting rid of the whole institution and just having civil unions like they did in Revolutionary France.

Citizen, citizeness do you agree to cohabitate for the good of the republic? We do. Then the republic reocngizes your incorporation as one entity under the established laws of the republic. Have many children to serve the state. Vive la Revolution, vive La France. (or something very similar)  Three francs and sign the license.

But some people want to be the fairy tale princess queen of the ball bride with all kinds of pomp and pageant that has it's origin in coronation ceremonies or patriarchal ritual binding of families and pasage of the owenership of a woman not the civil marraige of a simple sensible republic like Rome or France.

Haha, mass weddings is a good idea! Just get everyone's big day out of the way all at once. Personally I'm in favour of people just going to city hall and signing a document. I've never understood why all your friends and family and acquaintances should be expected to publicly celebrate your having fallen in love with someone. It seems like a declaration of love should be a private matter.

I'm probably getting off fairly easily relative to other weddings, though. My sister is a pretty levelheaded person and she doesn't want a fairy princess wedding or anything. No flowers or fancy wedding cake, no $10,000 dress. But it seems like just putting together a very basic decent-sized wedding is a lot of work regardless. And it's definitely a bit frustrating to be involved in something where a single person's ideas define the whole thing.

But that isn't waht marraige is. It is the alliance of two families. The communal blessing on a couple jsut starting out in the world. The exhange of property that comes with the granting of a daughter, the celebration of fertility and giving up of a daughter for another family to gain a son.  It's a contract, a treaty, an alliance, a chance to kill all of House Stark.

Love has got NOTHING to do with it.  That's a relatively recent add-on.  You want love? Get a mistress. You want a familial alliance for property you get married.
