Bleh, Genres have been bugging me lately. Mostly, all of these fandom specific categories that amount to four to eight isles of misc. General has more purpose and direction than half of them, there you have the things that were created with nothing in particular in mind. War, Western, Sci-fi, whatever, you get a massive pile of everything.
"Hey, fuck the fact that this is clearly a romance story, it takes place during the 1960's, so it MUST belong in 'WAR'."

This, I just hate, I am so sick and bloody tired of walking into stores and seeing these walls of aimless, shameless, perversions of organization. The classic genres, I don't mind so much. Wanna laugh? Comedy. See something that makes your whole body shiver with wow and hell yeah? Action. Non-fiction? Self explanitory.

Really, the only reasoning I can see is the concept that a solitary lard arsed, heart atrophied, failure doesn't kill himself walking from one side of the store to other, to pick up both Red Dawn and The History of American Arms.

Go get some fucking exersize, and stop screwing with all my stores. Same for everything else, make your own damn website if you want everything topped off with a nice black hat and chaps. Nobody else should be jumping through hoops to stop you from having to look at something without a fucking horse in it, and there is no way in hell there should be an anime category anywhere but a fifteen year olds private collection.

Blah. Thinking about this always depresses me.

Oh, yeah Kyupol and Smkinoshita? I'm part German, Swedish, Italian, Norwegian, Russian, and many other things and I can't speak any of those languages! But I do speak French and Japanese to a degree.

Posted at

Well, you got me jealous. But I'm only really good at one language, English. I've never been very good with learning languages beyond that. However, you speak the other official language of Canada AND the language of half of my heritage. The irony of it all hurts me so… :(

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to brag or rub anything in your face. I was just speculating the irony.

I feel a great swell of pity for the individual who started this thread because I need to unleash very, very badly…
Here it goes.

ARGHHHHHHHH!!! Can I please, please get paid for working my ^%$&*@ ass off! A whole year I worked on that graphic novel. Conceptual art. Pencils. Inking! Toning! I did it all but write the damn thing and got 4th billing on the cover????? The book sold out on Diamond over 5 months ago. Have a seen a check yet? Nooooo.

I was offered a job by a local restuarant chain to designs menus/childrens menus and take on any other creative endeavours they might need. Which I completed over 4 weeks ago… Have I gotten paid for any of that yet??? Nooooooooo. And to make matters worse, everything I was asked to do wasn't hard, design wise but those
%#$&^* kept changing their minds and I had to keep doing the same things over and over and over again.

I've sacrificed time and energy and sleep to do what I was commissioned to do but now when it comes down to paying me for the work, suddenly everyone's out of town…
Hell, no one will even dignify me with a reply to any of my numerous e-mails. I'm so frustrated right now I could scream!
And to top all that off at yet another one of my jobs,(yeah I have 3)I have some girl who is half my age and quite intelligent really but enormously irritating because of the aforementioned quality thought she could tell me how to do my job. She's been with us a couple of weeks and I've been there for years. Anyone and everyone who knows me understands that I'm quite the pacifist but when this girl told me and I quote " you could stand to learn a new trick or too" after I explained very nicely that, " I knew how to do my job and to just let me do my thing". I was very light-hearted about the conversation until that point.

I think for the very first time in my life… I really wanted to kill someone…. namely the arrogant, obnoxious, self-absorbed and insanely rude not to mentioned disrespectful young lady. I believe she has it in her head that only her superior intellect could help save us poor dumb, country mice from ourselves. I say this because after our altercation she preceeded to tell everyone else we work with why everything they did was wrong and how logical her methods were.

IF only I was twenty years younger, Hell make that ten!

yup.
let loose here

just don't curse too much.
What a beautiful story. So much hidden pain and sorrow. So much longing. Her soliquies are almost like she was thinging out loud. He is non commital. He seems to have been hurt, and doesn't want to be again. The love between them is almost screaming to be uttered. The detailed starkness of the drawing is almost like an Orson Welles movie. Any detractors need to stop nit picking, and let the story sweep them away. It is gritty. It is real. In the heart of it it is true.

Guess I'm lucky being half English. I can speak that. I can even do the dialects.

Still looking for that free cup of coffee though.

Then there's Russian and for the last quarter:

I'm not even sure what it is. Between Minsk and Pinsk? Russian? Polish? Ukrainian? Even Czech is possible.

I content myself with studying the history. 8D

I woke up this morning thinking all my work was done and I go home. Oh wait, that was Friday, before Sod's Law kicked me in the nuts AGAIN.

That sort of thing is usually why I always limited the number of changes I was willing to make before it started to cost extra, on top of requiring an up front fee. And I put that in every contract that if they kept changing it, there was an extra fee. I've gotten pretty anal about there being a contract. I don't do anything until it's in writing. Not my problem if they don't read the whole thing or think I'm blowing smoke out of my arse when they sign.

If they don't pay, you may just have to get confrontational and show up at their office and sit on the desk until they hand you the check. I mean that literally. I had one person that I had to stand in his office and disrupt his day for hours until he paid. Even after I threatened to call a collection agency. That's a pretty extreme case though.

As for my rant, I was just going to note that working a full time job, doing commissions and running a 5 day-a-week webcomic is brutal on the body and mind. All the work has effectively killed my social and love life here. It's becoming a struggle to balance my time, and I'm beginning to feel like I'm missing out on a big chunk of being young because of trying to pay for school. It's starting to make me feel burnt out.

lba's right. Make a contract out to them. Give people one or two free changes and then charge for every single one after that.

I mean… You have to give an initial quote and come up with a range of alternative rough designs. Charge for that, get the money up front or don't hand over the designs. If they pick one, write it out in a nice standard contract what it'll cost, and that any changes after the first couple will also cost extra. Then don't start work until they give you something- Either the full fee up front (sans extras down the line like change fees), good for low cost jobs. Or a significant deposit with the rest of the money expected on completion BEFORE handover of the final designs.

Just give them teeny little low resolution samples until they pay.

So yeah, I forgot Monday was a bank holiday. So I didn't get any food yesterday, and now the canteen and all nearby shops are shut for the day.

So now I'm sitting here trying to open a tin of fruit with a pair of scissors so I don't starve to death. Why does the University hate me all of a sudden?

And the cherry on of this lovely sundae of turds, my mouse is acting all screwy again. It was fine for a while, but now the irritating habits it used to have have returned, only multiplied by ten.

It's been a month without work, rent and tuition is due in addition to electric and my cell phone bill. My lease ends in two months and I have no clue where I'm going to live if I can't get a fucking job.

Move in with someone else?

I have no financial worries, a good job, blah, bla blah, and yet I feel not so good.

Maybe your troubles will put things in perspective for me and make me feel better? That'd be nice. Thanks man. ^_^

There are many comics in the Review forum without enough quality reviews. For just a few minutes a day, you could change the life of a comic. Please… (trying to remember how those commercials go) make a difference and review a comic.

Also, today I wish my head could just explode so I could see how much damage it would do. I think it would do a LOT of damage today. Or at least change the paint job in my little back office.

I don't know if this has been said or not, there are 50 previous pages.

Why am I reading the forums or posting when I could be updating my comic or putting together the next few pages so I could get ahead of the curve.

And my right arm (shoulder=sprain, elbow=tendonitis, wrist=carpal tunnel and arthritis) is killing me so there's only a limited time I can work before the pain gets to be too much.

*cue expressions of low self-esteem* :(

I would at this point, but two of my friend are moving into a two bedroom which would make no room for me realistically, and my other friend I have a history with, so she doesn't really think it's a good idea to move in with an ex or someone she's going out with. On top of that she's excited about the whole living on her own thing.

Probably just going to move out of this state. I hate the people her so much which accounts for why I have few friends. It's nothing but ghetto kids and rednecks. I travel a lot and I know not every state is like that, only reason I'm here was because up until a few months ago my parents were too, which offered me a support system.

Basically what I'm trying to say is, I like SpANG's idea. :3

I'm growing increasingly concerned with the number of DD peeps I see getting involved with that Rampage Network guy. Really. The guy is a total rat and he's pushy and manipulative and a total creep. I had to block him from IMing me after he sent me a death threat (not that I took it seriously).

I've logged my interactions with him, and he's now been trolling my livejournal, I've also dug up other circumstances around the net about how freaking bonkers the guy is.

I really don't want to see anymore DD users fall for the guy's shit, he'll only rip you off in the end. :(

On the plus side for today, I learned how to use a mig welder properly, which makes it a good day. On the bad side, I managed to weld a piece of steel rebar to my hand in the process.

But now I have a new method and material to make art with, so it's still a pretty good deal to me.

Also, I had my ex-fiancee call me today to try and be friends. I laughed so hard that I accidentally hung up the phone when I dropped it. It's amazing to think just how far I've come in the six months since I was crying and half-drunk on my back porch when she told me she cheated. I don't think I've ever felt this good about it now that I think of all the successes and goos things I've had since.
